Well...I usually don't post things on Salvation, that was left up to my bestfriend Richie Proffitt who passed away. Well...I thought I would post this in his honor because he loved getting a jump on posting new promo cards. A local player found new promo packs at Wal-mart...(like the Jaya Ballard promo pack) however it included a FOIL BRION STOUTARM instead.
I picked up one of these at my local Wal-Mart a couple days ago. Thought they just re-did Jaya Ballard but picked one up anyway because it had a Lorwyn pack.
Our promo packs came with:
1 promo Brion Stoutarm
1 Lorwyn pack
1 either Guildpact or Dissension pack
1 Saviors of Kamigawa pack
Anyone else's Wal-Marts doing different pack combinations?

I think they always do random pack differentations (usually Onslaught, Mirrodin, Kamigawa, Rav, TSP blocks, but Lorwyn is good too). I know that I tend to have good luck when opening those triple "older pack" sets... Opened a Chrome Mox from the Mirrodin booster, an Akroma and Teferi from the TS pack, and a Visara from the ON pack.. not bad I'd say for $9ish.
Brion>>>Jaya. Looks cool, I think I'll pick some up.
that looks pretty cool, I may have to look into grabbing one or 2 of those...and still, rav block packs means possible shocklands.

I've never seen one not have a Saviors pack. The only way they can finally get rid of the set that no one would ever buy otherwise.
Those tricky bastards have to trick you into it.
Saviors was fun. It even had that cool Stampeding Serow cycle, epic spells, the timmytastic Iname as One, kirin, the Hands, Promise of Bunrei, Twincast, Pithing Needle, and Feral Lighting (which can be awesome in casual). Sure, the set theme wasn't the best, but it still had some cool cards.
Hmm, I've been wondering what some of those other packs were. I could pick out Saviors and Dissension, but the other ones I wasn't 100% sure on since I wasn't playing during Onslaught/Mirrodin. Thanks for the info for that. I may pick up some of the Dissension/Lorwyn ones.
Sometimes they aren't even booster packs. My friend bought a splinter pack and received this 8th edition supplement pack, a preconstructed tourney with junk.
Ya, tho, Stoutarm looks nice

Well, I'm not sure if it's anymore cooler than just a regular foil Brion. It's still the same artwork (nothing wrong that). I was hoping when I saw this thread that it would be a new artwork but I guess you can't always have it that way.
Sweet! Waaaay better than the Jaya Ballards. I still have about six of those guys that I can't get rid of...
But Brion Stoutarm is cool.
I also have 6 Jaya Ballards that I can't get rid of. I haven't bought any cards from Wal-Mart lately. Usually I buy my card from Neverland Games (my local shop) and Collector's Cache (my on-line store).
But the Brion Stoutarm do look a lot better than the Jaya. Finally is a good Wal-Mart Promo we can actually use.
This may be a little off subject but I was wondering about something. I saw some product in wal mart that had cards out of the pack but you couldn't see what they were, and then a couple booster packs or something. I haven't bought paper cards in awhile because I play Magic Online. Do you guys know what they are?
I've seen some recently that had either a pack of 10th or a pack of Shadowmoor and then 30 loose cards behind it. I guess that's what you're talking about. I picked up one with a 10th booster a couple of months ago, and the 30 extra cards are random commons. And I mean *random*. Anything from Fallen Empires all the way to Morningtide. It even had some Unhinged and foreign cards in there. Yeah, Walmart was slipping foreign cards in these things. It looked like they bought someone's random lots/collection off of eBay and repackaged them.
I suppose if you wanted to have a really weird game, you and some friends could each pick up one of these, shuffle them into stacks of 15 and draft. But otherwise, stay clear. Look for the Brion packs instead.

Well, they're random commons with some uncommons and rares thrown in, too. I've seen cards from just about every set from Fallen Empires on, including core sets, chronicles, and everything else. They're actually pretty good, though. I've even gotten some good cards like Mortify and Incinerate. Besides, it's good for nostalgia anyway, just like the timeshifted cards. How often do you get a chance to tour the history of magic like that? Plus, a cool, foil promo is nice, too. The foreign cards are really nice, too. I'd never even had a non english magic card before that. Of course, they sell for $5 here, and they can certainly make interesting drafts even sealed if you use 2 of them. It's sort of Vintage limited.
It's cool they're doing more...I just don't have a deck built for him and I never thought he was 'all that and a bag of chips'. Pulled one at my playgroup's LOR tourney and promptly traded him away for something ridiculous...can't remember what.
I'm playing the hell out of my Jayas in my madness deck. And her flamey-foil treatment is still as jaw-dropping as the day I bought em. I can understand why everyone knocks her though...she's a bit underwhelming otherwise..
Does this Brion Stoutarm have that same special foiling then? Hard to make out from the picture.
When KB Toys was going out of business, I picked up 2 of the Jaya promos. the better part? each one came with 1 time spiral, 1 planar chaos, and 1 future sight. got each set for a lil over 6 bucks. Wish i could find that deal again!
in case anyone is in the area, the Pottstown, PA Wal-Mart does not have any of the new Brion packs. They have some Jaya packs with one 10th Edition pack and 30 bonus cards for $5.97. i'll tell you, the bonus cards are not worth the two extra bucks (welcome to Chimney Imp country), but Jaya might.
i'll be checking either the Willow Grove, PA or Hatfield, PA Wal-Marts tonight.
I bought one of the Jaya packs when I saw it in Meijers months ago. Only good card I got was a foil Loxodon Warhammer from a Mirrodin pack.
Now about 2 months ago I was at Meijers again and I saw the 30 card blister with one pack behind it for like $5-6. I decided, what the heck, because curiousity usually gets the best of me. Turns out a third of the 30 cards were land, and there were crappy commons, maybe 5 uncommons, and a Starter version of Vizzerdrix. I think the Xth pack had a Crucible of Worlds in it so I wasn't that mad, but I wasn't expecting the worst 30 cards you could probably give someone to be in there. I think the best card was Tidings or something.
I'm actually going to check Walmart and Meijers this week for the Brion Stoutarm promo just to have one, because I like the oaf and used to run him in my Predator Justice deck.

I'm bad at magic, you're bad at magic, and Level 4 Pro Ari Lax is terrible at magic.
My local Walmarts didn't have the Brion packs, but I did see the 30 card bonus packs with a pack of 10th, and the foil Jaya (on the front) for 6 bucks.

So you get three booster packs from different sets + a 'free' promo card. It's actually not such a bad deal..
You can usually find them at Wal-Mart & Meijer's. And I remember seeing them there for a few months--you probably have ample time to get them.
