I actually think the Fulminator Mage is pretty good. Think about how many targets it has already and how many MORE its going to have after SHA comes out (aka Reflecting Pool) This guy's ability will almost NEVER not have a target to kill. He may not be great maindeck but when I see Reveillark or Doran you can bet I'm getting this guy from the board.
I'm getting really giddy with the mirroring done between Lorwyn and Shadowmoor. It's really fun to watch it unfold. Kinsbaile Ballonist vs. Kinscaer Harpoonist is both comical and awesome. I love it.
Not the most amazing bunch of cards to get, but it's fine nonetheless. We can't get too picky.
I think that to keep the hype up they should ease up on revealing mostly Rares as official main page previews.

Waiting patiently for MTGO Leagues to become a priority again. It's been 4 years .
Drop by my Helpdesk if you have any questions/concerns on the Limited forum.
Excited for M13 Limited? What do you think the format will look like? Head over to the limited forum and let us know what you think.
My only complain is... why Rare?! He wouldn't warp limited and is not complicate...
I just hate it when they make card rares just out of the sake of people buying more packs (like, say, Knucklebone Witch)
This is the part where we have to concede that WotC is owned by Hasbro and sometimes does things to make cash.
This card could've been common in the right mindset, but hey, I'll be thrilled opening one. They never give Mike cards that don't have big, big impact. This guy will see a TON of play. TON. I dig it greatly

almost never is still not the same as never. ie, stone rain.
this is not a flexible enough card it makes itself out to be.
would you rather have a stone rain?rain of tears? by all means.
would you rather have a country side crusher? by all means.
Dont get me started ranting about countryside crusher just dig through the morningtide previews where I was opposed to the hype the card was getting.
On topic though yes stone rain or rain of tears would be better in most cases decks that run more than 1 color are running a decent amount of non basics in there as well and rely on them a decent amount for mana fixing taking out a graven cairns or an urborg, tomb of yawgmoth will really hurt a deck running multiple colors. Really any multicolor deck could find itself in a decent amount of trouble if faced with this card.
again im not saying it is a bomb card or a money card but it very much has a slot being inferior to a staple card thats not available for the time being does not make a card bad

From MaRo
Every rarity gets good cards. That means that some mythic rares will be tournament quality as will some commons, some uncommons and some rares. My promise wasn't that mythic rares wouldn't get good cards but that we wouldn't limit the good cards to only being mythic rare.
Bear this in mind the next time a powerful mythic rare is spoiled
Thanks to chaostheory90 for finding this quiz for me
Woah...I can't believe you hate the Mage so much! With all the hybrid stuff with so many new lands destroying a nonbasic land is not unflexible. Stone Rain with legs with awesome. If it dies, you get to take out a land too! This will be used and be a sought after rare.
Apparently my other reply in a different thread on the Woodfall Primus was deleted...
I think Woodfall Primus could prove a very abusable card. The first idea that comes to my mind is with Flash in eternal formats. Use it to put the Primus into play, destroy something, it dies, Persists back to play, stays in play, and the destroy ability re-triggers.
So, for 2 mana (casting Flash) you get to destroy two non-creature permanents and you get a 5/5 creature. I'll take it!
Fulminator Mage would've been Bomb in this extended season, I can see quite a few burn/beatdown decks using him as a walking land destruction. 7/8 players I faced at my PTQ were running nonbasics, and the 1 wasn't, cause he was new to the game and just wanted to try out a PTQ (bad choice fir him imo).
So, in a nutshell, Fulminator deals damage and breaks those nasty lands; gogo extended.
How did we miss the Cartes de Combat preview, anyways? I'm disappointed in you rumor mongers... I jest.
On to the cards!
Grief Tyrant - 8/8 for 6? sign me up! (reads ability) Never mind - limited fodder with a little Johnny action thrown in. It is splashable, though.
Woodfall Primus - Sounds like a transformer reject to me. 8 mana is a lot to pay for a creature, although persist makes it at least somewhat resilient, and it's CIP ability makes it card parity (into card advantage if your opponent kills it). I like the idea, but is is too expensive for competitive play, I think.
Fulminator Mage - Another card that's rare for secondary market concerns, I guess (I though Wizards said that they don't do this, if I remember correctly). 90% Rain of Tears/Stone Rain? On a Stick? Good times, good times. I wouldn't be surprised if this showed up in that MBA (or B/R Aggro) deck they seem to be pushing on us these days, as a way to steal some tempo/deal with obnoxious lands. If monocolored decks become flavor of the month, this could suffer.
Sunken Ruins - No surprise here. I like the idea of a Graven Cairns cycle, to be honest. The secondary market is going to be crazy on these, though (they have a drawback about on par with the Shock Lands, I'd say).
Skuzzback Marauders - Stupid name, good limited card. Needs more cowbell - I mean Haste. I'd play it in casual as slow burn/quasi-card advantage.
I really have to stop posting on two forums at once - my brain can't take it.
Sunken Ruins- the UB hybrid land, the art looks pretty cool with the evil merrow things, the yellow coloration is a bit surprising in a UB land but it seems to work.
Fulminator Mage- Fantastic card a 2/2 for 3 is borderline but this one will almost always manage to chump block(or better still trade with) another creature and then sacrifice to destroy your opponents land, a must have in a land destruction deck.
Kinscaer Harpoonist- the opposite of lorwyns white Balloonist, decent limited card but way too expensive for standard.
Woodfall Primus- now there's a big fat green creature worth playing and worth putting into play with the new green instant, 8 mana is a lot but this is like Angel of Despair it'll take out a permanent(unfortunately non land) and then it's a big 6/6 trampler, which when it's killed comes back takes out another permanent and is a sleightly smaller 5/5 trampler.
Grief Tyrant- effectively a 4/4 for 6 in red or black which when it dies can give 4 -1/-1 counters to target creature, limited very solid, constructed too expensive.
Skuzzback Marauders- 5 for a 5/2 trampler in green or red which dies and comes back as a 4/1 trampler. Probably a bit expensive for constructed, definitely solid for limited.
Um yeah, Knucklebone Witch got me to 2nd Place in a Draft, its really strong when used correctly.
Man I wish all the cards were released now, that way I can make myself a B/R/u deck (The comes from a few hybrid cards like Scarscale Ritual & Inkfathom Infiltrator and maybe a few others)
I am seriously wondering though... what will be producing rat tokens since this was kind of like a spit take with my soda since I was seriously not expecting the rat token.
Apparently my other reply in a different thread on the Woodfall Primus was deleted...

You can have it. I'd rather Flash the other guy in. You know, the one that wins you the game.
So we got a reason for them not reprinting Stone Rain -- to give us a RARE Stone Rain! More rares for most basic functions = more expensive decks = more monies for them.
Exactly what I said earlier. They are printing lots of hybrid rares that are either bombs or staple effects, to sell more packs.

Well I can say that Fulminator will be a beast in extended, that's for sure. Though with all the well used non-basics right now he could very well be a beast now.
I still think Grief Tyrant should be rare and not uncommon though.
*phew*
So much modding to be done.
People need to reread and follow the rules.
The Mage is great. I used to play Lava Runner back in the day.
Of course...that had haste...but it filled the same purpose.
The minisite cards are interesting. We got a card to use the Green instant on, the Shadowmoor answer to the Balloonist of Lorwyn, and other shenanigans.

But land destruction's primary use is to break tempo. Waiting to swing a couple times, or block, defeats the purpose. It kill's manland, I'll give you that.

Wait a minute, why am I trying to convince you guys. If you guys want to ignore him that's less that I have to play against and it's easier for me to get.
Sorry to disagree here, but this Fulminator Mage is SOOOOOO gonna get played!!! Can't believe you guys don't see it! With the amount of nonbasics getting played in T2 and Extended ATM, this thing is capable of disrupting a control deck's mana base way better than anything except Destructive Flow!
I'm not tooo sure, but I'd think Detritivore does a better job of killing off lands than the Fulminator Mage...And Detritivore's LD ability is uncounterable.
knuckle bone is actually all sorts of powerful.
