since the conviniently close shop near me had closed down i was thinking of quitting magic but then i saw the light
TRIBAL
i love it itd good for constructedand casually great cause u can just go and make a new tribal deck whenever and it would always be fun and occasionally good too.
It is a shame all the Boggarts and Kithkin look so child-oriented and cartoonish in this set. In that regard, I agree with Jiaozy.
That Goblin has a frog wrapped to its head. That's really not funny. It is just unnecessarily silly.
However, the flame-kin and faeries actually look rather cool. I like how everything seems to have a sentience yet holds an alien look nonetheless.
I love merfolk in general, but the catfish-faces are rather annoying.
That faerie art, from concept to execution, is awesome! I really disliked the idea of black (instead of green) faeries at first, but this art is making me feel a little better about that.

The boggart with the frog on it's head appears to be some sort of shaman, or possibly a healer. Note the voodoo doll and the charms hanging in it's hut and on it's body. It's also a rather old looking boggart. My guess is the frog is there as some sort of 'home remedy' for some disease, maybe a cure for warts? :-p
Flamekin look coolish too, but by no small margin my two favorite arts from Lorwyn are the two Fae pics we have. Boggarts are exceptionally ugly, even for goblins. I liked the Masques-style goblins. Great find!
At least this Merfolk looks better than the japanese or chinese Merfolk looking one.

hey i have managed to evolve my axolotls by feeding them thyroid glands the thyroxine contained in these gland is enough to change these water dwelling creatures into land based creatures

Tay, that's not evolution. It's metamorphosis. Evolution means descent with heritable modification – individuals cannot evolve, unless they're Pokemon.

I still like the art of this plane. Wizards has done a nice job of trying to make a newish world out there instead of just, "Oh, here are some elves and goblins and merfolk for you." This looks like a fun set to play just from the art. Not like Ravnica block where it was fun because there it was good, but fun as in "I'll play the goblin with the frog on it's head," type of fun. No one can get mad at you for playing a goblin with a frog on it's head...
...Until it shows up in extended goblins and takes all the fun out of it (Goblin Sharpshooter). I'm a Johnny/Spike, but I like the flavor. Maybe I'll actually read the novel that comes in my fat pack now... maybe.
I have to say, the art on this new batch is nicer than the first one.
But still, i'm still getting these vibes with Lorwyn's art akin to comparing the set of Xena: Warrior Princess to the set of the Lord of the Ring's movie. It feels so unsure and cramped for me.

"If I do go to heaven, I'll smack god across the face and tell him to get me a grilled-cheeses sandwhich and then say 'Yea what now god!? Say some'in! I dare you!' "
Ok, yes, this art set is a billion steps above the ones before it. The fae painting captures my eye like almost no other magic card could. That art is simply amazing.
OKAY, so am I the only person who noticed the Bogart has a broken pair of scissors hanging around his/her neck. I mean, Forget the frog. Whats with the scissors???
I hate to say it but I actually looked pretty close at that bogart art. close enough to say with certainty that from the silhouette of it's torso, this is a female bogart.
There are two ahem, shapes, protuding (a bit) from the front of her figure under the burlap shawl that are pretty distinctive.
Yay!!! More Goblins that wear stinky gross animals on their head
Ashling is really hot (pun not intended)
The Flamekin doesn't stand out much for me.
Goblin is fun and silly, but the fun and silly looking Goblins are generally crap. Fun looking works (Sharpshooter), Silly works (Isshi Isshi saw play)...fun and silly together = crap generally.
The Merrow is cool.
The Faeries in this set are so creepy sexy I love them.
Ashling the Pilgrim?
Another flame-kin...
A boggart, maybe a legend? He is on the boggart precon, after all...
A fae, this time probably black-aligned, whispering to elvish ear:
Finally, a merrow:
Enjoy, and discuss.
Let this great clan rest in peace (2001-2011)

I'm sure it's there for a reason. I would assume the frogs are familiars or something similar that they draw magic powers from.
Tribal Sorcery - Toad (..?) I'd love to see that. Finally, Morgue Toad will get the respect it deserves.
Elementals are shaping up to be aesthetcally fantastic this block. The second picture looks more like an explosive burn spell than a creature.
The Fae could be using some kind of controlling magic on that elf, maybe?

I really like that fae. It's clearly by the same artist who did Horobi's Whisper, whose name I (embarrassingly) cannot recall at the moment.
EDIT: Aha. Aleksi Briclot. Lovely work, very surreal.

yeap me too, looks so original and different.
and that bogart looks like female?
More than likely it's some sort of Seething Song effect.
anyway, coudn't the second art be to some damage effect? a la vortex?
Flamekin look coolish too, but by no small margin my two favorite arts from Lorwyn are the two Fae pics we have. Boggarts are exceptionally ugly, even for goblins. I liked the Masques-style goblins. Great find!
