Well no longer than 10 minutes ago I was watching the gorgeous Alison Goldfrap from Goldfrap fame, performing her song "Ride the white horse" When in the middle of the clip... a message appeared:
HOW HAD THEY FOUND ME AGAIN!!!!
Needless to say, it was clear and concise:
Oriss, Samite Guardian 1WW Legendary creature - Human Cleric Tap: Prevent all damage that would be dealt to target creature this turn. Grandeur - Discard another card named Oriss, Samite Guardian: Target player can't play spells this turn, and creatures that player controls can't attack you. 1/3 Rare.
Man... that's... cool, followed quickly by the following, which I'm pretty sure has something to do with Aaron Forsythe's leaky 'tap':
Pyromancer's Swath 2R Enchantment If and instant or sorcery source you control would deal damage to a creature or player, it deals that much damage plus 2 to that creature or player instead. At the end of your turn, discard your hand. Rare.
Which also came with an Aaron Forsythe approved comment: "Try this with Thunderblade Charge ...HYDRO"
They knew it was me... !!!
That I had been caught watching music videos on youtube again... Needless to say I've rebooted my system, and things are back to normal now...
Interesting that this one, unlike the other Grandeur legends so far, is a mediocre card with a jawsome Grandeur ability instead of the other way around.

Oriss is almost better in every way to her mom. Which I think is funny. The Grandeur ability isn't better than Mommy's Chant, but it'll definately do. I love legends that don't completely suck (even if Oriss' tap ability isn't really gamebreaking in any way). Oriss may not win games on her own, but she'll certainly clog games up until your win condition can start swinging. It's too bad she wasn't a Rebel as well, to show her connection to her Dad (and also make her marginally better).

Most people consider the rumoured 3/3 for 3U with a mass bounce effect to be like that, too.
EDIT: Hell, it's almost worth running the proposed Swath with Lightning Bolt. Build up to 6 mana then drop this and 3 bolts for 15 damage.
I am going to bend over backwards trying to make a "scepter chant" lock for post rotation extended. I love how Oriss is her own best friend. She can keep herself alive to ensure her grandure ability will keep on keeping on.
The enchantment is rediculous! Imagine this bomb with Ensnaring bridge! It's a combo made in heaven. Please please wizards, put the bridge in X. It's been a long time comming.
Man, that Oriss is pretty sick. Drop her on turn three, turn four play a Pack Hunt. Suddenly, you can Orim's Chant your opponent three times for free. Throw in some Genesis recursion and you can pretty well lock someone out of the game.
Pyromancer's Swath is interesting. All your shocks get an extra shock attached. But the downside is that you have to cast them that turn. So you need the three mana for the swath and then whatever other mana you need to cast those spells. Sure, I guess it means your topdecks are better, but it seems a bit limited in scope. I guess really its the red version of Heightened Awareness. Though there could be some sick plays involving dropping this, a couple of Lightning Bolts and a couple of Fireblasts all in the same turn. Or if the red pact does damage, this could be interesting.
Oriss I dig. Find a way to recur her (Oversold Cemetery, Volrath's Stronghold, Genesis) and you have a new approach to No-Stick... without the Stick! Not 100% sure it's playable, but heck, I'll give it a try! Worst case scenario: add 4 copies to casual cleric deck.
The other one would be great in a Burning Bridges deck... if they ever reprint Ensnaring Bridge. Maybe when 10th comes out?
Sweet Merciful Tap-Dancing Mother of Pumas! Oriss Makes for some hard locking love a scepter would be jealous of!
The first that comes to mind would use the recovering Gravedigger spell from coldsnap. Other possibilities include the vanishing treefolk that brings back critters twice. The green charm would work for you once. And that's just in standard! There's much more crazyness in extended and beyond.
Pyromancy is awesome, the Granduer ability on this one is ok for the cost, but not as splashy as the others mentioned. Two extra points and the ability to dump your hand, adds to the Skullcap deck/red maddness/hellbent perfectly.
Oriss is a great Cleric, I'll play it in my online Singleton Legendary Human deck, despite not being able to use her Grandeur ability.
Burn decks are gonna love Pyromancer's Swath, any burn spell = that spell + Shock. OUCH! In the right burn deck *cough*Hellbent*cough*, the discard your hand clause is a minor setback.
Loving this set so far, although the Grandeur ability is giving me thoughts to alter my online tribal decks to non-singleton status. I'll wait until the full cycle is revealed/previewed before I decide though.

From a pure Spike standpoint, Oriss, when combined with Recollect and Reclaim, has potential to create a very Scepter/Chant-like lock in Standard. Honestly, the thought of that makes me quite happy. I can't wait to break this card.
There are lots of ways to repeatedly put a creature from your graveyard into your hand, but the simplest way in Standard that I can think of is Undertaker.

Of course! I didn't even realize that was 'shifted! That's a three card medium-boiled lock, right there.
I can add Conflagrate for that Discard no card, but deal 2 damage, squee And draw a card for extra chaos too Also, note the Madness
I don't think flahsback conflagrate for 0 deals any damage even with Swath. (need help from some rule gurus), but it will net you a card to break your own softlock for a turn.
Orim is fun and, as a collector of legendary stuff, I appreciate her uniqueness, but doubt that she'll see much play. In order to set up a scepter-chant like combo, you'd need to build a deck specifically around this, and I think it's too much work protecting a 1/3 body in this era of amazing removal. Obviously a limited house.
The red enchantment also has a lot of potential, especially taking in consideration how the megaliths benefit from an empty hand. We'll see about this one.

I like the fact they have decent recurrable burn in this set to go with Swath, the cards that work well :-
Thunderblade Charge
Arc Razor Furnace of Rath [not this block] Grapeshot Ignite Memories [storm theme, maybe?]
That's just off the top of my hed minus pure burn spells like Rift Bolt. I think it is a pity it wasn't non-creature sources.
Mountain, Rite of Flame, Rite of Flame, Seething Song (6 mana), Pyromancer's Swath (3 mana left), Grapeshot (15 damage), EOT discard Fiery Temper (20 damage)
I don't want to say it's reliable or that you should try for this turn one win, but nevertheless even playing only Swath + Grapeshot in one turn gives you a nice 6 damage. I could give it a try, although it's probably more of a casual material
FYI the mana won't last ill yoru discard phase, and I don't think each storm copy gets the bonus as well.

The other one can be pretty nasty, but takes a lot of building around. Flashing back burn works nicely, for one thing.

Oriss will win MWCs, if such things exist
The Swath is super risky I admit, but perhaps I might put it into my Null Profusion Madness deck
Oya, so finally this could convince me to play Arc Razor
