This means we are looking at sometime very soon. Unless MTGO pushes back the release date of FS online (which is typically 6 weeks after the prerelease, when Beta starts), the server load testing will have to be done by then.
RandyB's blog is a highly refreshing read from someone at WoTC.

Well do we still have our cards as we do now on the new software?
No, all cards are lost and you have to start from zero, but who cares? it is easy to get the whole collection again...
ok, seriously, I'm glad about the new version, but I'm afraid that we will experience lots of amazing and unexpected new bugs during the next 4 months...

Count on it. But really, is that so different from any other software? At least MTGO has an open beta - and you really don't pay anything for it. So not only will you probably get a chance to squash some bugs, you'll won't have to sink any money into dealing with bugs.

Sounds like a sweet deal to me.
how do you get access to the beta version? I do like serarch for bugs in the forest, I wouldn't mind search for bugs in MTGO vIII beta.

I think it is too late to join that set of intrepid heroes. They must be running the beta now if they want that soon a release date.
You can wait for an open beta, but that has a shorter duration.

I think it's disappointing that the primary change of MTGO 3.0 is apparently cosmetic. There are a host of things that they could have changed that would have..actually mattered. If it's going to crash less, that's a good start. If it were to become less of a memory hog/leak(in reality, it will probably become more of one), that would be great too. If they incorporate some way to make your online constructed rating actually mean something, again, that would do wonders. And, most importantly, if they up the # of cards that you can trade at once and/or the # of people that can be involved in a trade, that would truly be amazing.
But..it doesn't sound like any of that is going to happen, it sounds like all they're doing is making the online store more of a factor, when no one that knows better uses it in the first place..and they're upgrading the graphics, which matters absolutely zero when it comes to playing online Magic. I mean seriously, look at how many people use Apprentice. Where does WotC get the impression that anyone intelligent actually cares about cosmetic changes?

Uh, they are rebuilding the client and the server architecture from the round up.
They have gone on record as saying many times, that once the server arcthitecute is in place (and it is very screwed up in V2), they can begin to work on all the wonderful things people have been asking for. So I highly doubt once we get MTGO III they will go on a long holiday.

Meh. I'm a big fan of free (i.e. MWS). I know the arguments on both sides, I have both, but regardless, free is free. I am curious to the new layout and I wonder if they'll be able to fix the recurring crashes.
The servers would have the information about what digital cards you have and relay that information back to you (the client program), but what about changes a person has made to their "physical" card count? If that information is client side and stored with the old program, is there a way to transfer that info to the new system?
Can I say NICE!!? That probably means around two months earlier than we thought, after having it delayed some times. I have heard that with v.3.0, there will be much better servers, that's mainly what I'm looking forward to.

Haha, yeah, the old stuff is there for viewing only.
I've made the leap to digital. It's a bit painful, but much like cardboard it is an investment. You _can_ sell your stuff if need be for actual dollars.
I got $900 for my cardboard, and spent that (and more) on my digital collection. i've got all but 4 duals sets (i.e. 4-of sets of all the other duals except Godless Shrine, and the Dissension dualies) and virtually any card to build a good Standard deck.
Extended rotates next year to Kamigawa forward, which will be awesome as the online metagame influences the paper even further.
I'd personally like to see a Mac version, but apparently Wizards is in bed with Microsoft.
Here Here!
I'd love to try out MTGO but I am running OS X, so I am out of luck. And no, I don't have an intel mac nor do I want to pay for and run Windows simply to check out MTGO.
If Blizzard can fully support WoW on Mac OS X, I'm sure Hasbro can support MTGO.
I know a lot of people who buy MTGO singles and say "I can cash it in for a full set of real cards later", but none who have ever done it. They've all got hundreds (or thousands) in pretend cards and justify it by saying they could make them real with just a bit of buying, trading, and paying of shipping fees. Haha!
As for version 3, hopefully this will bring about the sloppy end of a terrible idea in the first place.

Woot! I can't wait. It really needs its facelift.

Brain Freeze is the coolest card ever printed.
MTGO V III was getting to the "Duke Nukem Forever" level of vaporware*, and people were starting to get justifiably worried about it ever coming out.
*Okay, so that's a bit of an exaggeration, but it has been delay a long, long, long time...

Check out my articles on http://puremtgo.com/ I'm the nerd you see there... wait, not that one. Nope, not that one either... yeah. That one.
I was looking at it likley being after the FS release, but with it coming before I'm just really happy.
Hopefully MTGO III doesn't come with the same start-up flaws as V 2.0 did.

There should be a period with open beta. Everyone will be allowed in.

Where the heck did those Urza's Destiny cards come from on MTGO ???
The screenshots clearly show Urza's Destiny, which to my knowledge has not been released on MTGO.
Help?
** DigitalLogic on MTGO **
Boot up MTGO --> Go to your collection tab --> Set # owned = 0
You will now see every set ever released.
Urza's Destiny is not on MTGO... yet
Yeah, last night I was kinda tripping out at looking at a Black Lotus, decided it must be there for reference.
