It's new and creative. But it's not very useful at all. It's too gimmicky and expensive to be of any use. You need instants in the graveyard, you need sorceries to play, and you need to play those sorceries to play instants for 5 mana.
I love how Wizard's website explodes at midnight every night of preview week.
The card is cute, but it really costs too much to be worth building around. (This is Wizards trying to say "hey, uh... here!" to Johnnies, but it really isn't helpful when its so clunky. It doesn't make me want to build around it.)
While netdecking and testing VileHorror i thought about Biorhythm. Sure its really expensive, off-color and crappy but still you're always the one with creatures while playing VH. That made me think.
I absolutely love the novelty with the Aura. Excellent choice. I can't help but see this as a game over card with the proper hand and proper graveyard. Maybe another component is needed, but it seems like this will have the Johnnys of the world going nuts.
And the art on that jailer is awesome, as much as I hate the card itself. Graveyards don't need to be stopped anymore than they already have. Let the yards be!

Wow. Of all the ideas I've ever listed out and said, "yeah, they should print this unprecedented idea on a Magic card" -- enchanting things that weren't in play was not one of them.
It's Johnny time! That's all Spellweaver Volute really is. I'll find a use for it for sure - but most of the other non-Johnnies probably wont. I likey tho.
I don't expect it to ever see any kind of play. I guess it's a Johnny card in some sense, but I'm really not seeing the kinds of cool plays that make a great Johnny card. It boils down to simple graveyard recursion, albeit done in an utterly buggy, unusual way. Eeeearrrgghh!
very nice, and easier to cast than whithered wretch....

Normally, I'm all for overlooking that stuff, but they really must have hired some new flavor writers: this, plus the upcoming 10th ed. Shock have some of the most evocative flavor text I've seen in this game. Good job, Wizards! Vorthos loves you.
Another card with tonnes of potential Im just not sure where to put it. I thought of using it as a counter escort for a spell but the opponent would only get to play their spell after this triggers. Really not sure where to go with this. Fellow Johnnies help me out here
EDIT: I broke spellweaver volute:
EOT- Teferi
My turn with 4 seething songs in the graveyard (from previous compulsive research type cards) volute on one of the songs rite of flame move volute to another seething song repeat with 3 other rites to build up to a 30 mana demonfire.
Every rarity gets good cards. That means that some mythic rares will be tournament quality as will some commons, some uncommons and some rares. My promise wasn't that mythic rares wouldn't get good cards but that we wouldn't limit the good cards to only being mythic rare.
Bear this in mind the next time a powerful mythic rare is spoiled
Thanks to chaostheory90 for finding this quiz for me
seeing as there are so many red rituals out, it wouldnt be hard to see this being abused like mind's desire.
rite of flame (possibly more than once) with a couple chromatic stars and terrions out, then a couple seething songs, crack stars and terrions to fix for blue, play this followed by another rite of flame or cheap sorcery (like index) then storm then to death
edit: is it me or have they printed red rituals in almost every std block... since mirrodin save rav
This blue enchantment is interesting...I always like reusing spent spells.
The story behind Yixlid Jailer is interesting too.
Perhaps it is the card MaRo HATED?

Yixlid Jailer's art is okay... but it's a bit too gruesome to get any emotional attachment... and the flavor text is trying too hard, agreed.
Shinjutsei, you are absolutely right. Spellweaver Helix... Evan Erwin, this is not a new idea and Wizards isn't being creative just because they think it's cute to try and break rules by letting Auras target random things.

Pity.
The blue FS borders are also lame.

I am also not a huge fan of the sperratic art...

I do, however, like its potential as a multiplayer combo card.
