The biggest impact from this card is the number 1. Poisonous 1. Could they be making broken guys with Poisonous 2 or higher? Or better imagine a Giant Solifuge type creature with poisonus. With decks like Project X and who knows what, this COULD be a good alterante win like mill.
Marsh Viper has Poisonous 2 and I don't think it was ever considered broken.

Boy, my posts looked bare before I got a signature.
Oh? I untap with my Djinn in play? Then I'll cast High Tide 5 times, let the copies resolve, cast Remand 3 times, the first and second targetting the original High Tide, and the third targetting the first Remand. After the stack empties, I'll cast a Turnabout with 1 replicate, and triple-remand again. Net Effect: Draw 4 cards, Islands all produce 4 extra blue, lands untapped. Repeat until I draw Vision Charm and proceed to deck several hundred players.
The Poison Silver makes Silver decks a little more viable, especially with the amount of low-cost silvers available with evasion abilities, but there is one little problem
The problem is this makes Swamp Mosquito, as someone else said, useless. Its a 0/1. No combat damage to give the poison with.
It can't be templated to poisonous because that would change what it does (since it currently doesn't have to deal combat damage). Noone said that poisonous was going to be the ONLY way of delivering poison counters.

I'm actually kind of glad it says combat damage... Imagine a G/U Poison Sliver deck (running the free green creature tutor to be sure to get your poison sliver/gemhides). As soon as you resolve Psionic Sliver, you win. Tap a bunch of slivers, or get a 2nd Virulent sliver so they stack and you have a very stable, non attacking win condition. No thanks, goooo combat damage. At least that way the have to attack.

"Poisonous" as a mechanic name is very lame. I think they're finally getting to a point where they are keywording more abilities than they should. Flash is another good example.
I disagree...poison has long been a mechanic that has been in need of a keyword instead of the rules texts. Under the new design (assuming that this is the new design) poison can be implmentd on more cards and more complex cards.
Remember, the more keywords WotC designs and impliments, the more complicated the cards can evolve. Text space limitations and all that jazz.

I'm actually rather dissapointed they didn't expand the Poison ability somewhat. In keywording, they had the chance to make it interact with, say, creature combat, make it more than just a second type of damage to players... but it's basically the same ol' Poison. Meh. Hopefully when they get to whatever block this foreshadows, they'll do more with the counters themselves...

I agree completely. If they had not keyworded flash, Teferi's textbox would be much more crowded than it already is.
EDIT: Also, Mystical Teachings would be a lot harder to word without the flash keyword.

It seems to me that lately, green was getting the shaft when it came to spoiled cards.
Now...inundated with green stuff.
And I like most of these cards too.
Poisonous as a keyword opens up design space, because it lets them free up space on text boxes when needed.
Unfortunately they changed how it works, but this is only the tip of the iceberg.
It is just dawning on me how crappy this set must be for people who are trying to code it for Modo, but at the same time it helps them get ahead on future sets' mechanics.

I was hoping this would happen! Once it was announced that Future Sight was going to be about the future, I had been speculating that poison counters should come back--Mark Rosewater has always promised they would return sometime in the future. And since this set is about the future, it was a shoo-in!
Cool card for limited and block constructed. I've always wanted to make a poison deck but the creatures are so darned weak that it just isn't worth it. U/G Slivers is gonna be awesome. All we need now is a Sliver that gives all Slivers Madness. *lol*
You know, I think this kid can get ugly a bit too fast in GU........ Imagine this:
Turn 1: Forest, this
Turn 2: Another Forest, two of these, attack for 3 poison counters.
Turn 3: Island, Shadow Sliver, unblockable force for 9 poison counter, GG
OMG.....
Will Wizard finally do another card banning again after so long?
Unfortunately they changed how it works, but this is only the tip of the iceberg.
I have to disagree here. They can still use the old methods of delivering poison counters to their hearts content. This just gives them another (less text heavy) option.

@Baal- There's a conversation on that topic in new card discussion.
@Vile Slogra- With only four of this guy, burn and creature kill can stop the poison trick pretty dead. There are some potentially explosive starts but they require two copies of this card in starting hand (first or second draw) to make them. What's worse if he dies then you are back on damage to finish your opponent. 9 poison measn nothing if no more poison can be added.
I'm going to have fun playing around with him but I doubt he's broken.
What were they thingking? this thing could be completely broken, just because of it being a sliver, just play a lot of cheap slivers and GG
This is funny since we are in the days of 8 Wraths and removal out the wazoo. Just kill stuff. This sliver has lots of potential due to its creature type, but its not broken. I can see it being really annoying to lose to poison counters every so often though
I'm neutral since i like the classic old style and the present one is not charming for me...the future layout will be not charming aswell.
What means that symbol on top left corner? fangs or scratches...
The Symbol in the corner is like the tombstone from Oddysey Block.
As for the card. Boo combat damage. I love the card though, as it makes let's slivers ignore life totals. Just tag someone ten times and hope they don't play Leeches.

that's because it's been beat to death the last few days. this is definitely the clearest shot we've had of them though. they were growing on me until i saw more cards with the style. the mana cost is too hard to pick out right away and all of the art just seems too smooshed.
Speaking of which, I think we should be glad that Elvish Spirit Guide is not reprinted..... a hand with 1 forest, 3 of that and 3 of this Sliver and just one more of this Sliver in your next draw spells complete and utter misery....
But then again perfect hands don't come everyday anyway

So?
Damnation
However, I am stoked that they are revising poison to be more viable.

No. Changing it to say damage would be crap, because then Psionic Sliver would be broken.
I doubt I'm ever going to win by poisin but the threat of it should be fun trying.

I'm definitely running this in my Sliver Deck.
Mods have mentioned several times that there is a seperate thread for discussion on future-shifted card layout.
