The second set in the Lorwyn Block, code-named “Butter,” is called Morningtide.
Set Name -Morningtide
Release Date -February 1, 2008
Prerelease Events -January 19-20, 2008
Keep watching magicthegathering.com for further details on Morningtide in the months to come.
I don't think they are doing it intentionaly, it is just that they have used a lot of good names on cards so it is harder to make a name that isn't on a card.
PS: The site stopped updating for me until very late, is anyone else having that problem? I mean, it is updating about 2 hours later for me than the person who posted this thread.
It's a shame they didn't give us the usualy batch of info.
Guess we have to assume something is up with MT. Does this thread serve a purpose other than "Look, Morningtide is the set after Lorwyn"? Nothing seems obvious to me.
Elspeth "we must fight to protect order and justice!"
Tezzeret "No! he will break all my artifacts and stomp my head!"
Vol "powerful dragon must be brought to heel!"
Ajani "**** this Im outta *planeswalks to lorwyn* wow what hell is this place?"
Little lorwyn goblin "this be the place of bad art and Tribes!!!"
All other Alara planeswalkers "hey where did ajani go???"
They were pretty canny with Lorwyn info, too, weren't they? No "set X of Y in ZZZ block", no set size, no set symbol, no set logo...
I've almost got to say, why bother? Without any additional info, it's not a very attention-worthy announcement.
One thing I don't get: if WotC is using Lorwyn as their big chance to "re-boot the creative", as MaRo claims, why do they want to bog down the creative angle by referencing less-than-splashy cards of the past? Really, I'd like to know the thought process behind that.
they didnt give us the number of cards Lorwyn would have, now they just gave us... --> Morningtide...(well and some dates
I just thin Wizards got scared when all the sites were speculating about the number of cards Lorwyn would have, so they just gave us.. well nothing, not even the dev adn design team

I don't think anyone is making a big deal about the size of Lorwyn.
Notice that it is called 'the second set in the Lorwyn block' BUT they don't have that line of text (Set 2 of 3 in Lorwyn Block) in the release of information. (Perhaps because it is '2 of 4', knowing the existence of 'Sandwich')
Edit: Also, this set comes out on my 23 birthday.
Hopefully it won't be a stinker. (I love me my second sets)
2nd Edit: Planar Chaos was announced 2 weeks after the Dissension (3rd RAV set) prerelease.
Morningtide was announced 3 weeks before the Future Sight (3rd TS set) prerelease.
5 weeks seems like a wide gap to me, but not wide enough that they wouldn't know the rest of the details. Interesting they did it so early though.
Will Jelly and Sandwich be ...Afternoon... and ...Evening...?
Eveningstar (yep, from Arwen Evenstar in Tolkien...and from Kokusho, the Evening Star) could be a cool name. That would keep up the pattern of naming sets after cards.

- Chuck Norris counted to infinity twice—because he was trying to count how much damage Jon Finkel deals in an average game.
- Jon Finkel believes in maintaining a healthy, balanced diet. He gets all his fiber from eating Magic cards for breakfast, and all his protein from eating Magic players for lunch.
Will Jelly and Sandwich be ...Afternoon... and ...Evening...?
Maybe the next set will be called "High Noon" and have an Old West (or Rastafarian) theme.
These names remind of the DragonLance Chronicles: "Dragons of Autumn Twilight," etc. Hmm. Isn't DragonLance part of the D&D universe? It would be cool to see draconians on cards
Though I have to agree with the majority of you in that the names are lame lately, you can't judge a book by it's cover. As always this will be another block with new cool toys that everyone will love and then bag on saying the set is garbage. I can't recall the last time more people said a set was great then said it was aweful. I just hope that WotC will be a bit more inovative with the names in the next block.
Side note: Is the whole sandwhich/4th set thing confirmed or just at this point still speculation?
Perhaps they'll be a card in Future Sight named Lorwyn to keep with the "Sets named after Cards" theme.
But seriously, I am surprised at how little information we got. At least we got the name though. I have no say though, I like the name; "Morningtide" has always seemed cool to me. Makes sense since after Lorwyn's Dusk we get Morningtide.
Perhaps they'll be a card in Future Sight named Lorwyn to keep with the "Sets named after Cards" theme.
That would be awesome! A true "vision of the future".
However, since Lorwyn is a plane, there can't be a card whose full name is "Lorwyn," though there might well be a card like "Lorwyn Elves."

I've noticed this too. I think it updates now at 10PST, or 1EST. I think it may have something to do with daylight savings time.

Well, theoretically, you could have a card named Lorwyn. It would just have to be World Enchantment. In Legends, didn't the World Enchantments sometimes correspond to whole planes the duel moved to? Arboria comes into mind... or am I wrong?
Well since the first set is Lorwyn Dusk (black) and the second one is Morningtide(prob. white), assuming that there are indeed 4 sets in this block, the third and fourth sets will probably have names that sound red and blue (or white if MT is supposed to be blue) and are not neccessarily in that order.

I doubt it. I think people are reading too many colors into the names. Just consider:
Time Spiral and Future Sight both sound blue. Planar Chaos sounds red.
That's two "blue-sounding" sets in the block, one "red-sounding" set in the block, and no other colors represented in the block names.
And in the actual cards, colors are balanced (all five colors represented equally) in the sets of Time Spiral block. I doubt we're going to see something like Torment and Judgment again anytime soon.
Almost any name they come up with that uses real words is going to end up sounding like some color or other (unless it's a made-up name, like Ravnica or Kamigawa or Lorwyn), because the five colors of magic contain so many ideas in them. So don't read too much into the name.

This reminds me of when Ravnica I believe was codenamed "Control" and almost EVERYONE thought that it was going to be the comming back party for counterspells that are nuts! Names a name and that's all there is too it, usually has very little to do with the cards in the set to my knowledge.

I'm going to refrain from reading anything into the name, such as color proportions, etc.
I don't like it, but then again I don't remember the last time I really liked a set name at the time of announcement. Scourge, maybe?

My Tamanoa decklist (RGW), infuriating my brother since it's so junky!
