All of you are singing praises to WotC right now, but you're not thinking about the unfair competitive edge black has just gotten. As if black wasn't powerful enough (with card draw, single creature destruction, discard, cheap fat demons, crazy mana acceleration, COUNTERSPELL (when PC comes in)), it now gets white's most powerful, lethal weapon. This is just going too unfair. White needs Wrath so bad, black doesn't, black has everything it needs. Damnit wizards, the other colors better be getting these great boosts as well.
Black wasn't competative because it LACKED mass removal. It didn't even have an infest variant. It didn't recieve a replacement for hideous laughter in TS, specifically because they were gonna print this, methinks. Wrath wasn't overpowered, neither will this. It will just be nice that black can finally answer a handful of creatures.
Lets just hope magus of the coffers isn't dumb.
ALSO!
Black wrath is ~not~ out of color. At all. Black just never got a "wrath of god" because wrath existed. They finally found an excuse to break that rule, and they rightfully took it.

I think you mean "PoN", but it seems to me that "PwN" is more appropriate
(the 'w' stands for 'win', I think)

I think that WoTC felt that a lot of the players thought Standard was becoming mundane and a joke from all the nuked cards floating around. R&D took a vacation, and MaRo just started reprinting things.
I was recently talking to some friends about how badly black needed a good board sweeper. Looks like black got it. This opens up some interesting ground for MBC decks and UB decks. UB mill might actually be playable with Damnation main deck.
I've a Mono-Blue Extended deck that's been splashing black for Undermine and using Veldaken Shackles for critter control. Damnation is a natural for that deck.
Most of the magic I've played has been with a white based control deck. Very rarely does a deck need more than six board sweepers. I don't think we'll see many 4***/4Damnation decks because at least 2-3 of the sweep effects will be dead cards.
I'll enjoy using the new card in black decks but I hope White will keep *** over the long haul. Having about six play sets of *** really makes me hope White isn't going to lose.
It does explain Wizards doing the foil *** as a player reward.
This card is going to shake up Standard, Extended, Legacy...
This is going to be quite possibly the most revolutionary card in years. It is going to create so many new archetypes, completely shake things up.
Wow. Just wow.
Lots of other people said this, but man, does Mutilate suck in comparison.
I'm worried that this will make black too powerful and make white too weak, though. There are LOT of decks that were playing white solely to access Wrath of God.

- Jon Finkel Facts: (follow the link at left to see more Facts, or add more Facts!)
- Chuck Norris counted to infinity twice—because he was trying to count how much damage Jon Finkel deals in an average game.
- Jon Finkel believes in maintaining a healthy, balanced diet. He gets all his fiber from eating Magic cards for breakfast, and all his protein from eating Magic players for lunch.
Don't count Wrath out just yet...when Mutilate resonated, it did not kick *** out of the base set.
I have a feeling that Damnation will be the one that ends up fading away once the TS block rotates out of Standard.
Thank You.
I dont understand how people can see a card in Core for 10 years and think that is has any chance of ever being dropped.
Damnation is awesome, I cant wait to have them, but Black does not (when compaired to Whites stabel of creature removal), in anyway need a mass sweeper, it is the color of pin point removal, or mass -X/-X removal or Sacrifice..
White does NOT have any kind of reliable removal, but Wrath of God. Wizards WILL NOT NUETER WHITE.
Also, it IS in flavor, White is the Color of Balance, and Wrath balances things.
Black is the color of Self Sacrifice, and this does not fit in its flavor (when you take into account that you dont play wrath of God when you have a good board posistion.)
If anyone knows why G0-DRAW was banned I would love it if they would PM me. That guy was pure entertainment 100% of the time. Plus he never publicly responded to his Contraptions "Proof" that never panned out.
This is good but it reminds me of psi blast. What deck would play this card that wouldn't/couldn't play ***? I dont think you really want 8 in your deck. I could see a good B/W control deck that sides in more wrath v. aggro but I dont see running more than 5 total in the main.
Yeah I really doubt they will run 8 as well, but the question is which to play at higher numbers char is played over psi blast because it leaves coutner mana open (well, and cash wise)
So yeah, apparently I was right to build a mono-black deck, cause this is the last piece I needed for it, I'll pay 20-30 bucks for it, mostly because it's definitly going to be playable and hold it's value. And this makes me want to buy a box or two. I'm so happy right now.
Has anybody else looked closely at the text box, or more accurately its background? They changed that (like with other colours) to have skeletons in the text box! On one of the best kill spells ever!
Elspeth "we must fight to protect order and justice!"
Tezzeret "No! he will break all my artifacts and stomp my head!"
Vol "powerful dragon must be brought to heel!"
Ajani "**** this Im outta *planeswalks to lorwyn* wow what hell is this place?"
Little lorwyn goblin "this be the place of bad art and Tribes!!!"
All other Alara planeswalkers "hey where did ajani go???"
Um, a single card does not invalidate that. That article didn't say "WE WILL NEVER EVER AGAIN PRINT A BLACK CARD THAT PREVENTS REGENERATION", now did it?
Ugh... I always spend so much money on the middle sets, and so little on the opening and closing sets.
I bought a ton of planeshift, a TON of guildpact, a LOT of Betrayers....
and I think I will buy A LOT of planar chaos.
Too bad the prerelease is going to be 0k.
While this is undoubtably an awesome card, and bodes well for the set, this makes me worry about the next couple blocks.
Between the Dual Lands in Ravnica, and the Time Shifted and Plane Shifted cards in these sets, what can really be done in Future Sight and all of the future sets that would convince people it's a good idea to buy and play with new cards?
People *****ed about the discrepency in power between Mirrodin and Kamigawa... unless they've got some new, unexplored design space that they think the players are going to love, how much more can they do without completely blowing up the power level to an absurd point, or really disappointing the player base?
has anyone else noticed that the border is different? compare it to a timespiral black card such as Strangling Soot
Acutally yeah, I noticed. My logic on it is that it is the white border (see Wrath of God and shifted to black, and the text color is reversed. Wizards said we'd know what cards are planeshifted in the set, and my guess is this is how its gonna be noticeable. Just try photoshopping the colors and you'll see it. Makes me want a better pic of piracy charm to see if it is the black border of Funeral Charm just 'shopped to blue.
okay, I'm not going to comment on the card... we know it's good yadda yadda yadda.
1 Question: Which black: Aggro, or Control. It could go either way, it could go both ways. I can see a Rinse and Repeat style Zombie deck, or control. But that will come with time.
The real reason for my post: Visuals.
I've been comparing the Frames with TS B and TS W cards and it's not a match for either of them. In fact there are clear difference between it and and all other cards, and not just background. it looks like there are several subtle visual cues that says "planeshifted".
I really like this, it's subtle, but still sets them apart.
Oh, and RE Psionic Blast Vs. Char: Angels aren't immune to blue. Thus I will always play Blast over char if I'm playing Izzet. Plus Blast goes into all sort of Mono U, UGUWUB decks that Char doesn't go into. Equally, this doesn't just open black and Orzhov (as others have mentioned) it oppens up Golgari control, Dimir mill and may have some impact on Rakdos. Still I'll probably play 3 & 3.
I sawy it 5 minutes ago and I'm still in absolute SHOCK.

damnation. i was just at church and praying for protection from my own damnation. how...coincidental. this is proof that i have to kill myself before magic jumps the shark. /sarcasm

White too WEAK?
In TS block?!
White has Crovax!! Ivory Giant! Avoid Evil.... Wrath itself!
White and Black are going to be AWESOME together
Has anybody else looked closely at the text box, or more accurately its background? They changed that (like with other colours) to have skeletons in the text box! On one of the best kill spells ever!
Huh? That's just wierd pixelisation. There aren't any skeletons.
I think this answers why Crovax got the "return to hand" ability, doesn't it?
Also, I think Momentary Blink may be even more interesting and useful now.
Okay, now that I've had a few moments to get over my initial reaction of OMFG this is so cool (as I posted above)....
...now I'm seriously getting more worried by the minute. The effect of Damnation is going to stick around in Extend for years, and Legacy will have it forever.
Black is just generally better than white in a lot of ways, but white had one thing going for it that Black didn't: ***. But not anymore; now black has that too. I'm really worried about what this is going to do to white...I fear that a lot of decks that use some white are going to trade the white for black, and this is really going to hurt white. A lot of white decks are going to cease being viable because the black versions are better.
And in other news, stock in Planar Chaos just rose 300 percent...and the set hasnt even been released!
Lol, so true!
Damnation is going to worth so much ridiculous money.

I'm a white player, so meh... seeing how this thing is ultra-rare, it's gonna be a pain to collect a playset.
it's kinda hard to say, since there are only 45 shifted card this time, so there may be anywhere from 5-15 planeshifted rares so it's not so bad...still not looking forward to getting a playset of these
When I saw this I nearly pooed my pants. And not in a good way. I'm glad it finally happened in a way but totally scared to see what happens to the price of these things. I hope we're not talkin' 20 dollars a pop for them...
Oh and I believe this is the start of "Aggro is dead."
