This is so awesome. Truth or Tale, even at 3U is totally amazing. Finally a Fact or Fiction level instant-card-draw spell in Standard!
Truth or Tale is nothing like Fact, mainly cause Fact nets you more cards (upto +4 card adavantage, if the opponent splits into pile of 5 and 0). Truth or Tale is more like a mutated Impulse.
As to packaging: I'd love to see them add a 16th card to each pack.
This would accomodate not only the Purple Problem, but would also make 8-player drafting a bit cleaner. Further more, it makes sense since they just raised the price another 30 cents a pack. Surely one more card could fit in there.
The other idea I've heard is that purple is just for Online, which would be interesting for online classic....
Being as the cards are physically in that auction, they're not just for online (and online already has Finkel). Although since they're not counting the 121 cards as part of the 301 of Time Spiral, maybe they're not counting the 121 cards as part of the booster packs either... I wouldn't put anything past them at this point.
''I am a Godzilla PVC bank. People shove coins through a hole in my skull and pull them out of my butt to buy Pokemon cards. Speak not to me of Pain!''
Maybe they'll have purple boosters or something, it would suck, but who knows...
Stores would have had to pre-order them in that case, and from the looks of the eBay auction, some places already have product (or the product is shipping), so they would have 0 purple boosters and have to order new boxes of purple boosters and wait for weeks to get them...
The simplest cleanest explanation is that they are in some amount in the regular boosters.
So, now that we see purple, how do we think the rarity issue will be solved with them....
I remember the old days when I never could quite remember the rares vs the uncommons. When my group was thinking of doing a draft league, we discussed points for cards based on rarity and marking the faces to denote rarity.
My take is purple cards will be exactly like pro tour player insert cards. Available in tourney packs only. These cards are non tourney legal for type II or limited events--but same back and usuable to encourage type I play. The real issue will be for fans who wasted money and find these cards suddenly devalued. Though with such a print run with large number of cards it should not bottom out the real versions too bad. end theory of purple cards.
I'm actually rather surprised that this leaked. I thought it would be another week yet.
I personally like the new style card frames better, but I'm sure that Mark or someone will dissertate about why they chose the old card frames. *shrug*
I think they'll be mixed in with the regular set cards because of the printing & collection methods.
Can anyone on this thread cite the usual printing & collection dimensions & method?
I think it's a toss up as to whether they'll be standard legal.
Whoa! this thread grew and grew. I'm glad I spotted this so early, even though one of us was bound to find it sooner or later.
Hopefully we'll have more scans up sometime soon...
Great work on catching the card texts, who knew Negator would make a comeback in such a good form. Nice.
All in all, three cheers for the Rumor mill! *clap your hands say "Yeah!"*
Indeed, I feel that this is better than the original in many ways, mostly for living through much mass-removal, such as Mutilate and Wrath of God. * Lightster claps his hands

sixteen card packs is the panacea solution to all of it.

I severely doubt they'd put a purple in every pack. That would pretty much defeat the entire purpose of having super-secret ultra-special cards if you knew you'd get one each time you opened a pack.

After a lot of squinting, Gatherer lookups, and punching myself in the face, I managed to type up the wording on Truth or Tale.
Reveal the top five cards of your library
and separate them into two piles. An
opponent choose one of those piles. Put
a card from the chosen pile into your
hand, then put all other cards revealed
this way on the bottom of your library in
any order.
It's an instant, and uncommon. The mana cost is either :symu:, :symu:, or :symu:.
Reveal the top five cards of your library.
An opponent separates those cards into two piles.
Put one pile into your hand and the other into your graveyard.
Truth or Tale lets your opponent have more control over the chosen pile because he can deny you whatever he believes is the best card for you. Also, you only get one card instead of 2, 3, or even 4 sometimes with FoF. And lastly, the cards go into your library instead of your graveyard. Therefore, it's weaker in at least a couple ways, than FoF. That said, I doubt they would cost it as high as :symu:. Printing noticably inferior cards with the same mana cost is rarely done. True, FoF is above the curve. That doesn't mean they want to piss people off by printing a really bad version of it.
I severely doubt they'd put a purple in every pack. That would pretty much defeat the entire purpose of having super-secret ultra-special cards if you knew you'd get one each time you opened a pack.
If you don't include atleast 2 per pack, you make them super-rare. Which I think is counter to the whole TS concept.

As someone else pointed out in another thread - the only thing used in recent memory to denote validity in a format is the expansion symbol itself - never it's colour.
To clarify:
- Set symbol shape determines legality in formats.
- Set symbol COLOUR denotes rarity.
There is absolutely no reason for Wizards to change this - to do so would render meaningless a perfect system. Hence, these cards will be legal in standard, and also in whatever formats the original is still legal in.
I fail to see how anyone could think otherwise - the system is in place, it works, and it's not being changed.
Personally I'm hoping for 16 card boosters, but I think it's more likely a purp will be in each booster, replacing a common. Wizards has already shown they are in favour of making limited much more varied (coldsnap and TS rarity distributions), and this will only help that (or better yet, a combo - 16 card boosters down a common, with two of these, but somehow I doubt it).
I'm assuming that Wizards' logic in the set size of 311 (blah, whatever it is precisely) is simply down to the fact that TS itself features that many new cards (ok on dodgy grounds with the basic lands here, heh!) - reprints are not part of this set, but like everything else are from old sets making a comeback. It's actually quite a sweet idea, and although when I first saw the pics I was 'oh dear, old borders', I've already warmed to the idea, because it makes perfect sense, and now I think about it more, I'm amazed no-one (that I read) worked that out beforehand!
If you don't include atleast 2 per pack, you make them super-rare. Which I think is counter to the whole TS concept.
But there's the beauty of it - you don't. These are ALL reprints, so many players will already have them. By not updating the borders, the cards are visually almost identical to the originals and hence the only players struggling to get these are those without the originals, collectors (for the reprint set) and weird people who for some reason are prepared to get a new version of a card they already have simply because they prefer the TS expansion symbol.
When opening a booster pack, I have a feeling that you will get one purple card per pack, , replacing one of the commons. It would be just as rare as a rare (regardless of the original printing), and seeing that we figure there are 121 reprints, that should have this purple symbol, those cards shouldn't be too hard to collect if that is the case. You have the shot at two rares per pack. Sounds like a good deal to me. If thats how it pans out.
I too have found the auction on Ebay. Probably like most everyone here, I have asked the seller if they could provide any information as to the cards in the auction. In particular, I asked about rares and uncommons, and let them know I am very interested (aren't we all?).
Hopefully (barring this being a hoax) I will hear something back soon regarding some of these cards. Should I get any news, this forum will be the first to know...so, here's to hoping!
As for Purple Symbols...I am not even going to go there. I gave up on figuring that one out.
I'm not sure about one thing though... he still has summoning sickness if you use 6 mana and make him a negator the turn it comes into play? Uhm basically it should be like that since all cards have summoning sickness(but only creatures can't tap), still... I'm not sure(I tend to forget basics).
It's still summoning sick and can't attack. All permanents have summoning sickness, only creatures are effected by it. If a permanent played this turn is animated or becomes a creature, it is then effected by summoning sickness and can't tap or attack (so don't animate it the turn it comes into play because then you can't tap it for mana either).
But there's the beauty of it - you don't. These are ALL reprints, so many players will already have them. By not updating the borders, the cards are visually almost identical to the originals and hence the only players struggling to get these are those without the originals, collectors (for the reprint set) and weird people who for some reason are prepared to get a new version of a card they already have simply because they prefer the TS expansion symbol.
... except us poor saps on MTGO. I know that I am quite happy to see the old reprints in TS, as it allows for more cards to be released on MTGO.
the thing is: why are the reprints purple if you treat them as normal reprints?
that doesn´t make sense!
Maybe its a gimmick,I was looking at some of the reprints and while they are intresting they are far from being overpowered.
I think the speculation on these cards and what they are is a lot more intresting then the cards themselves.
Of course there are a lot more to be seen but I am not excited yet.
Oh how I love eBay.
Phyrexian Totem: Certainly not as abuseable as Negator, but against control decks it's still a killer. Might see play over the new shadow creature against those decks. Word of Seizure: Very nice. Pick the right object and it's all over. Ignite Memories: The cost is what kills this, since by the time you get that much mana your opponent's hand should be empty. Firemaw Kavu: It's a balanced Flametongue. Doubt it will see play outside Limited. Premature Burial: Too situational to be better than Terror. Duskrider Peregrine: Crap. Assembly Worker: Hope that they're reprinting Mishra's Factory for this set too. Truth or Tale: Not abusable at all. Me no likey. Magus of the Jar: But this I do like. The summoning sickness might make it worse but still abuseable with Megrim. Conflagrate: Double X? Nope. Flashback cost is even worse.
Also glad that they're using the old card borders for the reprints.
Oh, I didn't realize that Truth or Tell only let you choose one card. This has to cost 1U, and it would be playable at that level as you could easily find two good cards in the top five.
I think the existence of the totem cycle probably contributed to why Word of Seizing targets permanents instead of just creatures. Of course you still have to have the right color mana to activate it.
Please do NOT link to the Ebay auction, ask for the link to the Ebay auction or ask for what words to search for on Ebay. I've had to delete several posts that do. Thank you.
Ignite Memories: The cost is what kills this, since by the time you get that much mana your opponent's hand should be empty.
Why would it be completely empty? Most decks aren't designed to go hellbent. Additionally, if you can get even just a storm of 1-2 before this, it's ideal, as they will indeed have fewer cards in hand, and generally they will be higher casting cost. The casting cost in this card is prohibitive to storm, not to the effect. I don't think the general usage of it would be much earlier anyway. Would you really want to use this while your opponent still has 2-3 lands in hand?
