I just got the new magic advisory panel email today and the prize for the next drawing is for a box each of guildpact dissention coldsnap and time spiral. I can print screen if anyone wants, but I'm sure a few of you got the same email. But it clearly says time spiral.
Heh, I vaguely remember r_e giving this about a 10% chance of being true. Truly odd, but they're fresh off of naming a keyword after a card so why not?
It also seems to indicate the WSOGMM of abilities that we were leaning towards.
I'd like a screen shot (I haven't gotten this e-mail.) That's interesting, but makes sense. If they are going to sue R_E over "future playtest cards" (Intellectual Property), then I'm guessing they've let the cat out of the bag on the whole "Time Spiral" set.
As for the set itself, it makes a lot of sense to call it Time Spiral. Even if it's not the card itself, the concept is what needs to be grasped.
Anyways, I think that WotC needs to find an official way to release the information on Time Spiral and kick-start the engine for what it's going to be about. Articles wil help. Personally, those articles bring me hype about the playability of each set they create. It gives a good idea of how powerful you can think a set is, while having to judge its mechanics vs. it's limited playability... we'll see.

In other news, I am very happy in the pantular region that we are going back to Dominaria. Vestdan, you're back in business! ("Remember the Weatherlight" pwnzorz all of you. ;))
I can already see the Extended and (perhaps?) Legacy sliver decks coming out of the woorwork.

Please keep the thread on topic, which is "Snap is actually called Time Spiral". I've had to delete 3 or 4 posts already where people are making up cards. There's a forum for that.

Actually, it was 4%. But that didn't stop Wizards from forcing the owner of this site to yank that thread two days ago.
Funny that they did that two days before revealing the name of the set to the public. :slant:
Pure speculation here, but "Time Spiral" sounds like it could be a set with a mishmash of older mechanics. I mean, look at how many other concepts from Unhinged came to be (Curse of the Fire Penguin became flip cards from Kamigawa, half-mana costs (Little Girl) became guild mana symbols, Magical Hacker's flavor text inspired Niv-Mizzet's). Seems like Blast From The Past and Old Fogey could be hints as well.
Also, didn't Aaron recently take a poll asking readers which old mechanics should come back?
That would be totally cool. Can I get some speculation from everyone else now that I've proposed this idea?
I'm guessing this block isn't set in one particular time, but will feature a timetraveller who visits various periods of Dominaria's history (maybe each with it's own set of old mechanics)
It's about Time! (think that one through a few times!)
Seriously, you honestly expect them to spoil things about a set 2 releases out? I would be shocked to see a real Coldsnap card now (other than the YMTC), given that the next thing to spoil is [DIS].

Most, if not all, of your Unhinged links are visual coincidences. There's no indication that CotFP influenced flip cards or half mana influenced hybrid mana. Indeed, there's quite a bit of evidence against it. Magical Hacker's flavour text is nothing like Niv-Mizzet's (MH is L337 speak while Nivvy is really more of a rebus puzzle.) and from what we've heared there's nothing to suggest L337 had anything to do with Niv-Mizzet.
On the other hand, it is still possible for old mechanics to come back unrelated to an Unhinged connection. The name implies something of the sort, we have those rumors of flanking and whatnot (were they ever declared untrue?) and Ravnica already put one interesting twist on block mechanics (by not carrying them over to Guildpact). This would be new and old at the same time!
I bet Hydrokinesis is going to come up with a doozy of a catch phrase.. can't wait to hear what it'll be! :grin2:
Hmmm, I wonder.... maybe the set's name is "Timespiral"? That's at least slightly different from Time Spiral, and I'd kind of like it better that way. Can we get a look at the email?
I must say I'm kind of disappointed by the name. I mean, I don't really have any problem with the idea of a throwback block. A lot of people have always clamored for old mechanics to return. If it's done well, it really could make for an interesting block. However, even with a theme of time (I have my speculation on that as well), they could have come up with a name that isn't a card. I mean, some card names that became sets (like Prophecy and Apocalypse) were the kind of names that lend themselves better to cards than sets. Time Spiral just seems like it could have been something else. Chrono-something. Or Time-something else. Whatever.
My speculation for the storyline comes from the application for writers that they sent out a couple years ago. They asked people to send in storylines for a set of novels, in an attempt to find someone to write (I believe) Ravnica. The only outline they provided was that the story should detail what happened to Teferi after he phased out along with Zhalfir and Shiv during Invasion. It seems like a pretty easy leap of reasoning to believe that this storyline could be the setting for Time Spiral. Perhaps "what happened to Teferi" is that he was cast back in time through the ages of Dominaria. It would be interesting and nostalgic, but I also think it's the best way to reintroduce Dominaria. They kind of screwed the whole plane for storytelling with the Apocalypse. I mean, we managed to get two blocks out of Otaria, but I think most people agree that the storylines for Odyssey and Onslaught were pretty lackluster. Assuming that Otaria's survival (at least until the slivers took over and Karona showed up) means that the Apocalypse and the planar overlay with Rath was limited to only the two main continents, that still leaves us with one large continent and one smaller continent. The large being Sarpadia (where Fallen Empires was set) and the small being Corondor (where much of Legends was set). Assuming that at the time of Teferi's return, the main continents were basically wasteland and Otaria was completely infested and ruined, it really only leaves those two options.
What I mean by all this is that Teferi returning to the present of Dominaria seems like a pretty weak option for storytelling and setting. After all, if he had just phased back in where he left, he wouldn't find much. Also, I don't think anybody wants to see Karn show up in the storyline anymore (being that he was present either in person or by proxy of the Mirari/Memnarch in every set from Weatherlight to Fifth Dawn). And as Karn is kind of keeping an eye on things in Dominaria, Teferi's return seems like it would bring his attention. All this lends credence to the theory that the block will be set far in the past of Dominaria. Either at one static moment or more likely - given the name of the set - different moments.
Phew. That was a lot of exposition. In any case, I think the name could have used a little bit more brainstorming.
Wow
Well, colour me stunned, I figured this as fake for sure. I would welcome a return to Dominara though, if it turns out to happen, as I missed out on the whole plane, coming into Magic at the beginning of Mirrodin as I did.
Once again...
why the Time Spiral world can't look like... er... Time Spiral? Well, lower levels are the past, higher are future, and you can Time Walk just every day! This can be funny at the mechanic level!
Heh, naming a set after Time Spiral very interesting. SO what is it? Control magic set? Answer to mono-blue prayers? Interesting name to say the least. Btw Time Spiral good card to play if you are playing Niv-Mizzet.dec.

I'm excited, I'd like to see some mechanics come back.
Speaking of comeback mechanics, we keep hearing about how "Ravnica mechanics will be revisited with more depth later", but what if later meant, next block, thus flowing into "intra-block connectivity". It'd be weird and somewhat unexpected, but maybe too boring to have the same 10 mechanics for 2 blocks?
My other hope is that they mix a ton of mechanics, which would be confusing, but kinda make sense in a time travel block.

Ravnica, codenamed "Control" was also speculated to be a heavy-blue set. What it really was is another thing.
The truth is that the names, both codenames and real names, have almost absolutely no relevance to the set, at least if you are searching for some connections.

This should prove to be interesting. I look forward to seeing if they choose just to bring back successful mechanics (i.e. Threshold, etc.) or if they bring back worse ones as well (phasing, banding...)

Hopefully they will preview it soon. From the sound of it, the sets going to be very cool.
