Tres Bien!!! Those lands look great...I love that Ravnica will be urban magic for the first time. Maybe add a new creature type (hobo) or (gangsta) lol...somebody shoot me!!!
I have to agree that it is sad that the details will be lost on the cards themselves. in fact, i think within the cardfaces the art looks a bit wonky. not that i'm saying they should have come up with a new cardface or even used the classic style, i just think the colors clash a bit, whereas Kamigawa's lands really complimented the cardface both "look" and color scheme.
as art, i love them... as theme, very cool and original... but i guess i'm not sold on this set any more because of them. great art doesn't make the set any better as shown to us by Kamigawa.
I really like them both, and I can see the Island being how an Island would look in a world like this. However, the plains... It seems to fit white's themes, but I'd be lying if I said it looked even remotely like a plains. However, both are absolute masterpieces of basic land art, and I can't wait to run them both. I am very glad that Wizards is putting so much emphasis on cool land artwork that fits the theme of the block/set... awesome stuff, especially for art/flavor junkies like myself.

Yeah, Yodafan's pretty much a EDH pro.

I'm really getting a Coruscant vibe from the art, and I love that. I think it's high time they did something different with the basic lands. You can only see so many Plains before they start getting boring...
Anyway, can't wait to see the rest of the land.

Ravnica is EXACTLY LIKE Courascant. I love these land arts. They are beutiful IMHO and capture the descriptions of the city from the book quite well.

me neither. but that's only because they look freakin awesome. They look as i would think those land types would in Ravnica. I personally couldn't ask for anything else. I would have taken wizards off my bookmark list if they had a house floating in some water for an island.

I wouldn't say they are the best lands ever. They are preatty cool but I would have to say the best lands ever are the unglued (not counting island) and unhinged lands. After all what basic lands do you know of that sell for atleast $1 that were not a promo or a foil?

So do Arabian Nights mountains but that doesn't change the art on the card any. You wouldn't pay $1 for a fourth edition mountain but the art is the same as in Beta and Arabian nights. Either way I didn't say unhinged and unglued were the only ones that sell for $1 or more. I just think that the un-lands featured the best art and although the new lands are cool they aren't the best.

I love the cathedral look of the Forest pic that we've seen, I know these are going to be some of the best forests we've seen since the beginning of MTG.
The mountains look great too!
*Ahem* Only 24 days until the Ravnica PR, and that means less than 24 days until we have the full spoiler!
In that island pic, does it look to anyone else like the big building on the right has a football field on top of it? I've been staring at that thing for awhile...

I see it, too. It's just the slant of the roof versus the slant of the art, but I see it.
What we're doing here is akin to taking the text of Moby Dick, locating specific words therein, rearranging them to create a passage from Fight Club, and concluding from this evidence that Tyler Durden is based on Ahab.
The plains art is awesome, but seeing it boxed into the card frame makes it look less....awesome. And I agree, the island looks more like a :symu::symb: land than an island.
I truly beleive "Expert" level sets should have Unhinged style land art. Especially if wizards is going to flaunt the fact that they are commisionning amazing art, oh, but on the cards it looks like a crappy photoshop. Even the best art looks meh when shrunk down to a card frame size, especcially when there is so little contrast, and heavy detail, as in these lands.

I agree. I'd love to see the Unhinged style lands in "real" sets. The art just looks so much more amazing when it's the entire focus of the card (which has no relevant text in the first place).

I simply LOVE the new Island...the watery structures, the aquaducts, water reservoirs...I would really like this art as wallpaper
The Plains are nice, but I do not like them as much as the Island.
Let this great clan rest in peace (2001-2011)
