MMM, I dont think you quite get it... you could tutor any 1-2 mana cost card (maybe just the same type of card: Sorcery, gets sorceries). Meaning, you could play this and tutor, for example, a Distress... well bad example, but you know what i mean
have you thought of something like "sweep" or "channel" (like a keyword or somethign):
Dimir Spell1UU
Sorcery Mutation - Search your library for a non-land card with mana cost 2 or less and put it into your hand. Remove Dimir Spell from the game.
I added the "remove from the game" thing, because it would be too powerful. It is powerful the way it is, though...
Maybe it is really powerful you know... Isochron Scepter decks would be the best... with just one-two copy(ies) of good spells
How is Dimir Spell so overpowered that you have to have it remove itself from the game? Yes, it's a tutor, but it's a narrow one. One mana more gets you Diabolic Tutor, which doesn't seem in danger of getting banned anytime soon.
thanks for being patient..was out playing magic! I asked about the keyword and about Mix and here is the best answer I could get. He wont give written info just verbally so I did my best. The spell is muddle up the mix and its a conditional counterspell for uu. If you pay 1uu and discard it you search your library for a card with converted cost equal to muddle up the mix, so 2. Theres a dozen or more spells with this dimir keyword, all cost 3 mana (but not always the same color) to discard, but all have different mana cost from 1 and up. So sometimes you pay 3 and search for a spell that costs 1, sometime you pay 3 and search for a spell that costs 7. Depends on the spells converted cost, not the amount or color of mana you pay to discard it. Also, you do it as a sorcery, and its noncounterable he said. So I said can you pay 1UU and discard muddle up the mix to search for a goblin piledriver? yup.
I'm going to turn that mess into something more recognizable
Muddle up the Mix -
Instant
Counter target spell unless...?
Dimir Keyword (:1mana: :symu:, Discard this card: Search your library for a card with converted mana cost equal to this card's, reveal it, and put it into your hand. Then shuffle your library. Play this ability only any time you could play a sorcery.)
(Using the comprehensive rules and my understanding of the card to come up with the most correct wording I can think of.)
I wonder what the keyword's called. Another source mentioned "mutate" which kinda fits.
So... 12 new tutors, all costing either or :symb:? Brutal... wow. If there really is one that costs one mana, that means you can play one Ancestral Recall in your deck and 2 or 3 tutors for it. Once you've got and played the Recall, either use the spell for its primary effect, or maybe consider tutoring for something else. Welder, perhaps. SICK!

or, tutor for Yawgmoth's Will and use it to replay the "Mutate"-d card. or win. winning is another option. :tongue2:
either way, U/B is looking just straight grrrreat!! wonder what they'll reprint next... Psychatog?
Send my many thanks to supercoolsexyfunsmart for this enlightening information... i'm quite speechless, UB get's multiple tutors... I'm sooooo loving ......Ravnica... I've... Got... to bust out.... with.... a .... GOGO.... Ravnica!!!! But can't tyep porplery
Great stuff. I'm quite intrigued by the 'Search for a card with converted mana cost 7' part, this will lead to some more enjoyable speculation.
Everything about Ravnica so far has just excuded massive amounts of awesomeness, the likes of which have not not seen since Apocalypse. Muddle up the Mix... you have a conditional counterspell, that can search for one ofs in your deck, like, say, Chill, or Reset, or, or, or.....
so were thinking that its going to give us uncounterable instant speed tutors? at 1UU that'll have to be playable in type 1
Look at the card, it specifically says it a sorcery-speed effect.
I'm wondering what type of keywords these are. They're probably the new, italic kind of keyword, like Channel, I'd think, considering the number of cards they'll be on.
looks good. also looks like there's a lot of B/U deck manipulation, but not too much else. Maybe on their own B/U wouldn't be too good, you may have to combine it with something else to get a real powerhouse out of it. Either that or play some real odd combos.
So... 12 new tutors, all costing either :1mana::symu::symu: or :1mana::symb::symb:?
Or 1UB. Or maybe even 1{u/b}{u/b}.
I agree, though. That's pretty sick. A targeted tutor is pretty powerful already when it sits on the back of an otherwise useful spell, and having 12 or so to choose from could do insane things to U/B control.
congrats on post 100, charlequin. i was watching that.
Paralax_Mage, you are correct. this is something we already knew about U/B. together, they obtain obscene card advantage, but they typically don't do much to affect the board. this was the weakness with Psychatog decks in the last Extended season.
VestDan, i have to say, with the current wording, this might/probably will be printed like Cycling. it's almost the exact same effect, just a tutor in place of a cantrip. alternatively, though, Channel is the same way as well, and it was italicized. i guess only time will tell. however, for now, i have to say i'd prefer the italics.
At a cost of 3 it is not really anything to write home about. Lets get real diabolic tutor costs just 1 more, has no restriction on what you can tutor up, and sees almost no play. Cheap tutors are good. Expensive ones are binder trash. Three mana for a very limmited tutor just is not exciting. The other half of these cards will need to be good for these to see play.

You could easily dive into Kamigawa Block if you want any powerhouses. Use the card advantage MACHINE that is U/B with bombs like Kagemaro, Koshuko, and/or Meloku. If it weren't rumored that all of Ravnica would be incredibly powerful, I'd have said that U/B was broken.
So, if black has no good tutors, why should blue have them?? If there were some good tutors, they should be black
Blue gets the targeted tutors now, while black gets the Demonic Consultation variants. It's something Blue actually gained from the color pie shift.

Sorry but mill=10 is not all that impressive. It is about equal to 5 to the dome for dammage, and spells that only do 5 to the dome (and not to creatures also) have never been chase cards. It is a decent card, but nothing to get excited about (at least in constructed, draft and limited are a totally different story).

Actually, one mana can usually be the difference between a win and a loss. Or between unplayable and playable. Look at Utopia Tree vs Birds of Paradise. One more mana, much more horrible.
Besides, if there are a lot of these transmute-tutors, you'll only pick the ones that you will need in your deck, which will end up making it more like Diabolic Tutor... which means I have no doubt that these will see play, probably in all formats.
Well, so we're stuck to a boring variation on cycling. DOn't get me wrong, the mechanic looks very, very powerful, but boring nonetheless. I was really expecting something more out-of-the-box than "converted mana cost matters". *sigh*
This just in from an anonymous source - Dimir's mechanic is called "Transmute"!
They are evil, evil people. I'm making a custom set, and I made this keyword before we even heard of it, and even called it transmute (I'm a huge Fullmetal Alchemist fan, by the way).
Holy powerful mechanic, Batman! If the cards themselves aren't heinously bad, then a selective tutor will be simply ridiculous in some decks. Probably won't matter for Vintage but, Legacy or Extended, perhaps?

If these Transmuting spells are useful unto themselves, then they're still cooler than Diabolic Tutor...they become not just modal but modal x4, if you have good spells to fetch with them. I'd like to turn a counter into a boomerang, for example. If the source is correct that you can get any card (not just blue or black ones) then I'm excited about Muddle Up the Mix's ability to get Umezawa's Jitte and play it to kill your opponent's Jitte. And in mono-blue.
Much more importantly, Muddle Up the Mix sounds like a trip-hop album.:jam:

yes this rocks! a 2 mana counter finally! and a very cool abllity too
1) Diabolic Tutor replaces itself and does nothing else. All these spells do something else, or replace themselves when they're useless.
2) Cunning Wish was even more restricted in what it could fetch than this card, yet it saw huge amounts of play. Since CW cost 3 mana, that suggests 4cc is too much for a Tutor but 3cc isn't.
1) As I said these cards will sink or swim based on thier primary ability not the guild ability which is weak.
2) Do your really believe it is easier to build a deck with tutor targets for a single casting cost then it is to build a sideboard of choice instants? I sure do not. Wishes are not tutors. They effect the game in a different way. Comparing them is comparing apples to oranges, or maybe oranges to lemons is more acurate.
The ability gives you a bit of versatility, but it is not very powerfull and certainly not powerfull enough to include these cards in a deck if the primary ability on the cards is not usefull. Again it all comes down to the power/usefulness of the primary ablity for these cards. The guild ability is just meh.

That's right. I'd say if a U/B spell had this keyword, the activation cost would be :symb:. Nice.
