Convolute -

Counter target spell unless its controller pays :4mana:.
#40/306
And no, it's not strictly better than Flaccify because Flaccify causes your opponent to take 1/2 a manaburn.
A slightly worse Mana Leak but I think it's playable in some decks. A "hard" counter until turn 6 or so, and then it still works unless they've got a ton of mana out and they're only casting little spells.
It's splashable, though not quite as good as Mana Leak. This might see play with some kind of Land Lock deck that uses Hokori

Convolute seems to be Ok For R-R-R drafts. But If 9th is mixed in there, Then it is worst than a Mana Leak. Atleast it's a common. I'm getting the feeling that this is going to replace Mana Leak In 10th ed.

The card is alright for means of a Ravnica Draft if your going for blue...but unless you have mana to spend aswell just for the dang spells cost...and blue isn't the most mana excell at all...

That counters a spell with converted mana cost 4 or less.
This one counters target spell unless its controller pays
Do you even know what "strictly worse" means?
Strictly worse is like Ancient Silverback to Craw Wurm (save the creature types). The card needs to be better in every way, shape and form to be strictly better.
What happens when an opponent plays a STE and you play Thoughtbind? It gets countered.
What happens when an opponent plays STE and you play this new one? They have the chance to pay 4.
Is it better? Probably. Is it strictly better? Not by a LONG shot.
I'm getting the feeling that this is going to replace Mana Leak In 10th ed.
I'd give serious thought to quitting again.
Thanks for the card R_E and source. We appreciate it. Can't wait for whatever else he can get us.8^)

True, well spoken!
"Convolute" means to complicate something, make it more difficult or hard to use. (In case anyone was wondering.)
It is definately going into my Blue White Extended Singleton deck on MTGO
You heard it today, folks, this card will be part of the PT Kuala Lampur 2008 extended winning deck, narrowly beating out turn3scaledwurmgo.dec.

R&D's recent attention towards blue has been sickening. It's been almost proven that in the past months, formats where blue is strong are fun whereas formats where blue is simply a supporting color or not at all are almost entirely luck based. Make blue stronger for a stronger game.

If the source had showed us a mediocre red card, would you be whining that R&D hates red? Seriously man, you can't tell much about a set by one common. Did you see the blue/black guildmage yet? Has blue ever had a 2/2 for 2, with no drawbacks, and 3 special abilities? Save the R&D trash talking once you have all the info.

I was going to say something about this but my mind stopped working the more I read it. Uh... when blue is strong, Magic is fun? And when blue is a support colour, the format becomes based on luck?

Although my hopes for Dissipate or an Absorb/Undermine variant have been all but shattered with this card...
Cheers to the Source of this info for this card, and hopefully more to come, and to R_E for getting it to the mill, you da man bro...!
/me find the card to be 'meh'
Thanks bobinite of the Untitled Shop for the banner. Which, Ironicly I can't see right now.

What the hell? Mana Leak isn't even alll that great! Do they want blue to suck?

Yes, they probably do. R&D will most likely continue hosing blue until 10th or so, so get used to it.
Anyway, this dashes any hopes of Counterspell being in Ravnica, so I think its fair to say they don't plan on making blue any better for awhile.
It is definately going into my Blue White Extended Singleton deck on MTGO
