Well, I recall the Invasion dual's were quite playable in their day, and to this day still I believe. Anyway... I agree with you, the painlands are rare, we don't even need to debate this one
Let's hope for some great new art on the lands, ay?
Although they were playable, 7th was still legal at the time and most people preferred/played pains over duals, alhough some decks used both pains and cipt(aka world championship '01). And the only time 8th duals were ever used in tourneys was when Wake decks ran about. Most people preffered fetches for an obvious reason;)

Hang on, I need my gibber-to-english dictionary. Ah yes, here it is,
OK, we'll try it another way. There have NEVER been playable duals lands at uncommon. So pointing to unplayable dual-lands at uncommon and using that as evidence that painlands will also be uncommon is rather silly.
The Ice Ages and Tempest 2-color lands were used a good deal back then.
Apparently I must be blind because this is the best Core Set since 4th Edition, and I guess all along they had protection from colors, trample, and random discard in the base set, as well as all 10 painlands. I thought they did quite a few things different for this core set breaking the mold for core sets, but apparently your overwhelming intelligence has atleast in your mind proved otherwise.
Not being a smartelic and paying attention to what's being said and knowing what you're talking about rather than blaming others for not who do is the way it should be handled. So is trying not to jump into arguments with people and falling flat on your face making yourself look rather unknowledgable, especially getting edging and holding a rather flameish tone. So far this has been a rather calm and decent thread, don't do things to cause it to be otherwise.
As I said before, take everything they say with a grain of salt.
3 Things :
1) The WOTC have been known to mix up the ability sets of the coreset according to the upcomming expansion set. This is NOT "breaking the mold". And if you think this coreset is better than 5th / 7th (with inclusion of actually tournament worthy cards like pillage, counterspell, ball lightning, etc. etc.) then you're quite mistaken. Generally, the power level of coresets have been declining.
And with the only real boost that this core set getting being dual pain lands, you're not going to get anybody intelligent to agree that this is anywhere close to breaking a trend.
Moreover, the quality of the creatures (tramplers / protection) are surpassed by more efficient / less expensive creatures in the already finished expansion set. ANOTHER tradition that WOTC keeps.
2) There's never been a precedent for WOTC actually degrading the rarity status of a card when the cards in question are going to be very synergetic / powerful on the next expansion set. With the next set already known to have heavy emphasis on the dual color / multi color decks, why would WOTC suddenly break their consistency?
3) You've yet to prove intelligently that there's any reason to think that painlands can be uncommon. There are already overwhelming evidences against your wishful thinking - including rare / uncommon / common breakdown mathematics as well as very well thought-out arguments about the painlands' powerlevel.
Strike 3, you're out. Everything you say and claim are contradicted by facts.
Take things with a grain of salt? Don't flame the board?
Please, take your own advice first.
P.S.: Take some highschool english courses. Your run-on sentences make your posts as graceful as a cow sliding on ice.
P.S. this post constitutes flaming.
This is just a really really rude way to present an argument that has been presented many times on the thread already.
Core set strength to me does not come from what was printed in the core sets before, the one, before this one. (Sorry for that.) It is how strong it is over all from the last one.
Plus cool old cards comming back is what makes it fun, just as cool new cards showing up.

I couldn't agree more Law, this core set, in my opinion, has a lot of synergy with the current standard and block, and OFFERS NEW cards to existing strategies on the same power level as those we've seen in Mirrodin block - Kamigawa Block.
We should never really compare core sets to one another, as there's a hell of a lot of changes in the environment of all formats in between these sets.
Instead, we should examine them based on the current and potential environment in the future, 9th seems like it may be forshadowing alot of what we're likely to see in the next year with Rav block and it's multicolored themes. It's not that big a stretch for wizards to set up a suitable core base for these sets to draw cards from to enhance strat's and deck design... (i.e: all 10 Painlands for a multicolored environment)
...It's going to be a good couple of years for standard (finally), I can feel it!

I wonder why they didn't reprint Wayfarer's Bauble, considering Rav's multicolour theme.
Posts that say 'why didn't they reprint *this*' (only that) are spam, and usually deleted.
But I do want to make the point that cards reprinted in core sets are not always in preparation for unreleased sets.
Was 8th full of cards to compliment Mirrodin block?
More likely, reprints would occur within RAV, such as BoP being reprinted in that instead of 9th. (making it be in type 2 for about the same amount of time, so it doesn't matter that its out of 9th in the big scheme of things)

Now, see I would think they would have to make up new creature types for those.
Obviously they did not, but both of those cannot be Golems.
Whatever type had been given to Blue flying creatures that were basically ships, might be applied to Ornie.
For the Scimitar...that is an object animated artifically...so what creature type would it be?

After doing some searching I think the Ornithopter will become an Artifact Creature - Thopter
Thopter is already a valid creature-type, since Thopter Squadron creates Thopter-tokens
A wild guess about the Dancing Scimitar is that it might become a spirit or a djinn (since it is possesed)

Spirit would be the copout, and likely.
And Thopter would work, and effectively make the creature type for Ornie...pointless.

Weren't the Ice Age depletion lands rare?
Also, the whole "uncommon = unplayable" argument is proven wrong by the Invasion tapduals.

And chromatic sphere is on the same power level as the pain lands? I think not. I specifically DID say power AND synergy.
Besides, it looks like WOTC IS printing them as rare. Case closed - logic prevails yet again..
A golem as well? (like the Beast of Burden)
Why that, of all things, isn't a beast is beyond me.
