It's a very nice list. If the other colors are as strong as white is, and there's no doubt that they are, 9th edition drafts are going to be a LOT of fun.

Once more, like everyone else, thanks to R_Elf and source for this info.
In terms of the rares: nothing amazing was taken out...Blinking Spirit and Paladin en-Vec are both great additions; Gift of Estates could also prove quite intriguing.
From a limited standpoint, White does get hurt by its loss of common white flying creatures: gone are Angelic Page, Diving Griffin, and Razorfoot Griffin (no more griffins at all....sorry to see them go); instead, we get Pegasus Charger (no problem here - good card) and the uncommon Leonin Skyhunter (great card). So, good replacements but not necessarily common - may weaken white from a common therefore Limited point of view.
Looking forward to Blue and the rest....
Wow. Pretty much the only thing that could have made me happier would be the reprinting of Swords to Plowshares. This is looking very good.
I also note that the staple Healing Salve is finally being ditched in favor of Mending Hands. Not to say that Healing Salve is good, but it is interesting to see it finally go.
I think the defender cards are going to be artifacts for this set. Maybe Living Wall might come back

You'd think, with white be the defensive color, it would have Defender cards. Is Defender going to be a blue-mechanic?
i don't think its going to be based solely in blue. and i have to admit i'm a littl esuprised to see no "walls" in white they have been phasing out these types of cards for awhile now. then again white is the main color of vigilance so that could be an offseting factor
in the future i expect to see a number of red and blue cards with defender as to me walls have always been a very red thing (wall of fire, wall of stone, wall of earth, etc) and blue has gotten a fair number latly
heres hoping the elf has blue up before i go to bed.
Also to note: posts such as 'I wish they reprinted *this* card', and little else, are going to be deleted.
Posts which just thank R_E and the source, will be deleted.
Threads are for discussion.
I am extremely pleased with the list of cards, loving Ballista Squad coming back.
I love that card.
What rumors does this confirm?
What rumors does this deny?
I remember the COP thing from earlier...who said that?

Notice the Defender cards in Kamigawa--none of them are walls. WotC has long felt odd about people summoning piles of brick--that's hardly a CREATURE, that's really more of an artifact. I can see them moving the wall subtype entirely to artifacts, and having a few random creatures like bodyguards, Traproot Kami, etc in the future. There aren't enough to do MUCH of this yet, so we still might see a few. I've always wondered about Wall of Stone though... is a wall in flavor for red at ALL, much less one that beefy? (I kinda hope it's still in tho, great limited card believe it or not).
As people have said, no walls + no/less common fliers will make white very different in 999 than it was in 888 (which DOESN'T SUCK... really. My group has used 8th packs for filling draft holes when we run out of other stuff for some time... and Fecundity does horrific things in a green spiritcraft deck).
Edit (more to say): The lower count in color hosers may be because they want to be friendly toward multicolored Ravnica.
And Blinking Spirit is kinda white, it has a flickerish flavor to it--it's mainly picked because of interaction with Kami block tho, which should be obvious.
How is Blinking Spirit going to be worded? The way it is now or rewritten wtih no 0?
Reprinted cards are reprinted with the same wording. The exception for this is when there is a rules change at the same time as the set is released, like with 6th edition. Also, creature types are sometimes updated for old creature reprints (like Hell's Caretaker becoming a Horror).

R_E how do you know Blinking Spirit is? I mean I believe the list, oh yes I do, however you say you know. Do you have a scan? If so I would love see it ever so much. Unless the source rather you not.
Like I said, another source told me about Blinking Spirit and Sanctum Guardian a little while ago, but asked me not to reveal it. It's what I call "lateral proof". Sometimes keeping one or two cards to myself (when asked) turns out to be a good thing, because once a card is leaked to the general population, fakers can use it in their lists (or fake posters). But if I have a little info held back (again, I only do that when a source makes me promise to) I can spot real lists (like this one) with ease.
That's probably more than I needed to say, but I'm not one for keeping stuff from the Mill.
As for protection, I don't know how it'll be worded... but maybe it won't get wording at all. Maybe it's just on a couple rare cards.
Slow down, SorryGuy. This isn't an excuse for you to go nuts with spammy posts. Edit your existing 4 or 5.
I'm just glad serra's blessing is in and not vigilence. Pegasus charger is sick beats. Soul Warden = look out! Skyhunter is huge! Wizards are apparently trying to push white weenie as hard as they can without having to bring back crusade. (damn them for trying to push shared triumph on us! what kind of fools do they think we are?!)
Cops: thank god. Thank you for showing R&D that cop white, green and blue are hated in every format. In casual if some noob pulls out a cop blue against my mono blue ninja/shadow/phasing deck, I get up and slap him. blue green and white Cops are hated by causal people because they are auto wins against many decks and hated by compeditive players because they are unplayable.
Wayfarer is still in? Does this mean tron is going to still be in too? (Could influence non-basic land count along with the pains) Go Go white control!
karma gone= hot cheese. where exactly in the color pie do damage dealing enchantments belong... red...cough...red...
healing hands is a step up from healing salve... but still is unplayable...
inspirit and angelic blessing make me sad.
paladin en-vec makes me say oh yeah! (but if they really wanted ww to pown they should've brought back the mother)
I predict white weenie will still suck with this (if not it's soul warden's fault) core set, but wizards will bring back mother of runes and crusade in tenth and it will ride again.
edit: lampdwler said the thing about the cops and blinky. bring back his threads please.
edit2: where are my manners? Thanks Rancored Elf!!!
actully someone made a very valid point before about gold card in 9th. looking at the numbers we could eialsy have 5 to 10 of them. while this is unlikly i don't think we can count it out yet. and if they do. then absorb is the logical replacement for counterspell as a staple (of course this would make a good reprint for rav as well)
blitzkreigbob: i'm not so sure about that. while ww is quite fun it still falls short on late game. unless you tell me exalted angel will be reprinted in rav i must douth that it'll dominate after. now mix in some red to add in the element of instant death to both critters and the dome of your oppenent and i'll say that mix will have a good shot at the top (assuming of course a r/w dual of some playable caliber)
Grats for getting the source to find this. Im very surprised, like most, that *** remains, but also Wizards must really like the White Weenie theme. Probably because its easy for newer players to just pick it up and start beating with it... *puts up noob white shield*
Only two COPs, and they are the only hosers. I understand how wizards wants to focus hosing into enemy colors and teach new people the color wheel...but why destroy a traditon that has been in place with all core sets since Beta (a COP was missing from Alpha if anybody didn't know)
Gift of Estates I think will eventually find some good use in T2. Hell, my friend, who is obsessed with white weenie, is already working on his new deck...I wont get that involved yet, ill just play with whats out of the core set and try to find replacements until Ravinca comes out...then ill start reworking with the new T2
That is absolutely awesome. A hell of a lot better than the white cards that were printed in 8th Edition. At first I wasn't going to buy a box of 9th. But after seeing the cards in it... *goes to preorder a box*

I would efinitley not think that they would print enemy pain lands in a core set, maybe in rav though?
with the loss of karma and cops U/W/G, this makes me wonder at what other "staples" are gone.....does this mean that there are potentially no charms in this core set.
as it stands, with what little WW loses with mirrodin block rotating out in october WW almost has too many 2/2's for 2 each with a pretty decent ability (Hand of Honor, Leonin Skyhunter, Samurai of the Pale Curtain, etc.) and now its 3 drops are pretty decent too thanks to PeV....sure tehre's no crusade but glorious anthem's been holding down the fort in type 2 for a while now.
i'm REALLY Excited to see what red and the artifacts/lands have to offer.
...does this mean that there are potentially no charms in this core set.
It's been fairly well assumed the cycle of artifacts from Darksteel (Demon's Horn, Angel's Feather et al) were created specifically TO finally get rid of the lucky charms. Good riddance, too.

I can't believe they planted Vigilance in Champions and aren't putting it in ninth. Why'd they print it at all then?
That said, I love this, looks awesome, thanks RE.
I think that's in the 9th edition S-series, as was said on some other thread. So, it's in one of the beginner 'how to play' boxes, and will exist with a white border and 9th edition symbol, but you run no risk of ever openning one.
peace
I guess that with walls gone, defender will come to 9th, so i guess Traproot Kami
Maybe Frostling would be OK, but it doesnt have Kami in it's name... so i guess its a NO....:)
