Solid list all the way around. Nothing amazing, but the return of *** is quite a relief. This will definitely be a quality limited set if White is any indication.
Seemed to me that a lot of the new cards were from Portal... makes sense I guess since that set was pretty basic in terms of complexity.
I really don't think blinking apirit will be much of a problem. If you understand that abilities can be played any time an instant can and how abilities work (pay the cost, put them on the stack, then do the effect if/when it resolves), you will be able to use Blinking Spirit.
Note: 8th edition had 60 white cards (Including Eager Cadet and whatever else is in the S series... is that the only white one in 8th?) Less cards in white = less colored cards = more artifacts and/or lands. *nod*
Edit: Vengence was in 8th too, so that's 58 non-S series in 8th, 57 in 9th, so that should mean 5 more artifacts/lands.
I'm personally hoping that less cards in white, along with the fact we are getting protection and trample back in the core set, leaves the possibility for gold cards as part of ninth.
I always thought it was a shame that many of the coolest cards from Invasion block would never be reprinted in the Core set.
no hosers such as karma and sanctimony?? maybe the cops have the hoser job for this set (so that is why there are only red/black ones) and paladin en-vec as a rare hoser... strange, but cool anyway
Not a single Wall to be found...of course that isn't a bad thing. Walls shouldn't be creatures, for sure.
The only card that stuck out in my mind as being especially bad was Foot Soldiers, which is waaaayyyy worse than Sacred Nector.
The card printed with a 0 cost activated ability was from Onslaught block, which wasn't too long ago. Abilities with 0 are already simple enough for the core set- you're telling the new player that it costs nothing to play. Not too hard of a concept is it?
Great job, Elf. You rock. However, that isn't the purpose of this post, as that is essentially spam.
Things of Note:
Only enemy color CoPs. Kinda stupid, but they're the only two that get played anyway. At the moment, only red is played in T2. I don't know, was Green played in the past?
Gifts of Estates. They're probably doing that "one new reprint from every set" thing they did with 8th. Never heard of this card, but it looks like a mini-Land Tax.
Kami of Old Stone. The mandatory CHK reprint. A stupid vanilla creature.
Leonin Skyhunter. Awesomeness for WW once Mirrodin is gone. I hope this is part of the Core Set for years to come.
Reverse Damage. Its hiatus from 8th was confusing, and its return is more confusing.
Sacred Ground. It's back. Go WW sideboard.
Savannah Lions. It's back. Go WW maindeck.
Serra's Blessing. Maybe a cycle with Primal Frenzy, Fervor, the 2UU flying one and ... black enchantment for fear? Is there one?
Weathered Wayfarer. Solid guy.
*** is back. Rumors flew that it wouldn't be, but now they're stifled.
Zealous Inquisitor. A Scourge reprint. Seems like a weird card for a Core Set, but it's simpler than it appears.
Overall, very solid. Righteousness, Soul Warden...a solid bunch of cards, except Nectar and Skyhunter Prowler. Thanks again, Elf.
EDIT: Where is Karma? That kinda sucks...at least WW SB got Sacred Ground.
R_E how do you know Blinking Spirit is? I mean I believe the list, oh yes I do, however you say you know. Do you have a scan? If so I would love see it ever so much. Unless the source rather you not.
Also I am very happy we are going to have the complete spoiler this early. Also it is amazing we almost had the Ravnica one as well. Leaks seem to be coming up.
And of corase, thank you sources! We love you!
And onto the cards:
[cardWrath of God[/card], i thank god you have returned. I was worried. I though we could get the comparitly crappy Final Judgement
I am also very glad Skyhunter will be sticking around. One of the best pure weenies in a while.
Gifts of Esates is interesting. I guess tihs has something to do with a card like that feeching the prices it does for the legalization in Legacy and Vintage.
A few closing comments:
I am sad that Karma and Tundra Wolves left but I am not going to cry over it. This rocks.
MMMMM... this feels nice lol.
57 cards only? that means there are 285 colored cards, 20 basic lands, and that leaves room for 45 artifacts and non basic lands, i wonder how many there are, in 7th there was 39 artifacts and in 8th 31.
Of all the cards i like most Paladin en-Vec, Weathered Wayfarer,Soul Warden and Serras BLessing.
The set is looking more aggressive for limited. No walls, as someone said. Infantry Veteran, instead of Angelic Page. Angelic Blessing is a sorcery, so obviously useless for defense. Inspirit is uncommon, which COULD be demoted to common, but they don't demote as often as the other way around. Still have Master Decoy and a few other things tho, and Foot Soldiers is a solid common for draft (block those Hill Giants all day). There are still some powerful defensive uncommons -- Ballista Squad, my lord! And if someone manages to draft it with a Spirit Link... good times
I'm surprised Oracle's Attendants is still in, though. It seemed like a crap rare that would visit the core set once, and then never be heard from again. But if this could be reprinted... *gets scared*
Please, lord! No more Okks! FOR THE LOVE OF NECROPOTENCE NO MORE OKKS!
Btw, are all the rarities the same as they were when first printed, for cards new to the base set?
The only card in white that I wanted to come back but didn't was Razorfoot Griffin, for purely sentimental reasons. I'm glad with all the changes, but the templating team deserves a huge raise if they managed to get protection reminder text.

Don't you know? It is the crap cycle!
As for limited I agree alot and it pelases me. It looks better than 8th and as I stated above I liked 888. Also the removal of walls and cards which corespond to walls makes me happy. Is it possible they are out of the game? I mean oh coarse not or they never would have keyworded it but still.....maybe they just are not white anymore? Possbilty Green or Blue?
MMMMM... this feels nice lol.

My money is on 15 lands and 30 Artifacts. It seems like a good breakdown to me. And yes, that does leave room for Duels.
Wrath of God, i thank god you have returned. I was worried. I though we could get the comparitly crappy Final Judgement
Whew, same here. I got to the bottom of the list and Wrath of God made it. It really is fun cracking boosters and getting a ***. Even though I love the current *** art, I'd love to see a new art version.
***Hydro hears the 'GOGO...' and peers through the void to check the 'mill***
....Someone rang in with the 9th white spoiler? I'm there!
..ahhh, finally back to the 'mill!
Fantastic Stuff R_E, and what a great start to a core set it is, I'm thoroughly impressed by the inclusion of some of these cards, namely Skyhunter & Wrath, and given the state of the White revealled today, I can't wait to see what the other colors, Artifacts and Lands bring!
Many thanks to our source & Daron! Glad to see someone is watching out for us!
Not a single Wall to be found...of course that isn't a bad thing. Walls shouldn't be creatures, for sure.
The card printed with a 0 cost activated ability was from Onslaught block, which wasn't too long ago. Abilities with 0 are already simple enough for the core set- you're telling the new player that it costs nothing to play. Not too hard of a concept is it?
I'm glad Walls are gone now, they were a very confusing type of creature, they werent creatures at all!!, the only "wall type" card that wasn't confusing was Stalking Stones, because it's a land, then it converts into a creature...
MMM... the last card ever printed with an activated ability of 0, was the biggest s**t black card of all times: Blessing of Leeches
Edit: Great for the comeback of Wrath of God and for the reprint of Leonin Skyhunter and the great appereance of Kami of the Old Stone, i guess that gives us the chance to speculate about other "kami" cards
An important thing to remember here: if Black and Red really are the only CoPs in the set....
....doesn't that prove that all ten painlands and Loxodon Warhammer really are in the set?
Otherwise: looks great, yeah. A much better selection than I'm used to seeing from a core set. I'm disappointed that we didn't see Cataclysm or Armageddon (not that I really expected the latter) but otherwise, this is fantastic.
I'm very glad that my prediction about Wrath did not come true (yet), and I'm pleasantly surprised to see Weathered Wayfarer, Paladin en-Vec (a card I never got to know, but wanted to), Blinking Spirit, a new Tithe out of nowhere, Leonin Skyhunter, and Infantry Veteran in there. I use that last card a lot when I play WW, and it's very effective with first-strikers and flyers...
EDIT: I'm also glad to see that they finally decided to take out the three unplayed, less in-color CoP's and add three good cards in their place.
Whew, same here. I got to the bottom of the list and Wrath of God made it. It really is fun cracking boosters and getting a ***. Even though I love the current *** art, I'd love to see a new art version.
Thanks for the preview, R_E and Source! 8^)
New Art would be very cool although I do not know what direction you could do. I guess something kind of like the current one and Obiliterate, I do not know. Any ideas?
I'm glad Walls are gone now, they were a very confusing type of creature, they werent creatures at all!!, the only "wall type" card that wasn't confusing was Stalking Stones, because it's a land, then it converts into a creature...
I do not see how they are confusing. They are a creature that can not Attack. Is Nezumi Cutthroat confusing? It is just the oppisite, it can not block. I do not know, I neve rhad a problem with it.
MMM... the last card ever printed with an activated ability of 0, was the biggest s**t black card of all times: Blessing of Leeches
I think that confirms it for us. It will be printed as it was. Thanks for reminding us of that. However I disagree with your assesment of the card itself. I think it is elegant and well designed. Also just in Saviors there is a worth black card, One With Nothing
i'm just happy to see so many white weeine staples as well as useful cards for non ww
lions skyhunter.
paladin envec i an so beyond pleased to see that i can't tell you how happy i am
then other cards that are going to be useful in a majority of white decks like soul warden, and the portal tithe. not to mention the wayfairer. if this is the same quality we get in all the colors then yes. 9th will be the best core set printed since 4th (and if they reprint mishras factory it might be better)
so. number crunchers. crunch for us. how many lands and artifacts can we expect?

Cough.
Anyway I saw an edit I did not comment on.

Indeed it does open up that possibility.
See this

my bad. but thats still enough room for the important reprints in the lands. the question is are we going to be stuck with the crappy comes into play tapped lands or get the pain lands. and if we get the pain lands do we get all 10?
heres hoping for all 10 pains and the 5 fetches. but whos going to put money on that
Very solid list for White I may say for a core set. Some cards may make beginners look at it twice to understand, but's it's a better selection of cards for the beginner to get a hold of

2 Weathered Wayfarer
4 Suntail Hawk
4 Leonin Skyhunter
4 Veteran Cavalier
4 Paladin en-Vec
4 Gift of Estates
2 Inspirit
22 Plains
... is composed entirely of cards in 9th Edition.
I like where this set is going.
