I must say that blue really got the shaft. R&D took it out back and taught it some southern trailor park justice. This is unfortunate, because blue is now the weakest color. Without staples like Brainstorm, Force Spike, Counterspell, and Hibernation, blue is going to get super raped by anything that runs creatures, which is most decks in existence. Not to mention Hypnotic Specter is going to spank blue silly. I was thinking about actually buying 9th until I saw the blue list. This is definitely a turn off. Wizards just lost a bunch from me.

thats not fair. now i realize that blue is a fan favorite (why i'm not quite sure, but i don't like blue) but wait till we see the whole spoiler. i'm hoping the elf will have black up in the next few mins. but wait till you see it all before you decide to buy or not to buy
I'm going to have to go out on a limb and agree. It's like R&D raped blue and ate it's children. It was nice knowing blue, but I guess all bad things have to get worse. Blue almost sucked in 8th, but it blows in 9th.
I am not Entirely sure i believe this. It seems... TOO erratic for R&D work. It comes CLOSE to being as bad as i though, but.. so far, gunslinga and his source have been DEAD on.. about Obscure things no one expected. Then... he hits blue and is a massive miss? Don't seem right.
IF this is true, then im sorry but blue is DEAD unless Ravnica is horribly Broken for blue with like.., brainstorm and every other powerful card needed existing. Blue becomes support with not even Meloku able to save it. And just as Blue was getting some interesting stuff in the form of spoon, and Evermind (its not GOOD persay, but its interesting from a design perspective).
If this is Real, thank you R_E and source, if not... what a cruel joke... Either way its a cruel joke. (And im not even a Blue player, i hate blue, but this is rediculous.) Lets hope the rest of green and black is as amazing as we all hope.. the pains can still save the set.

Regarding the Blue Spoiler
CynicalSquirrel- "Black gets Hypnotic Specter, Green gets Verdant Force, White gets Wrath back and Gift of Estates. And Blue gets Fishliver Oil. Not exactly fair." VestDan -" So, 999 blue will be, what? Drafting Sea Monster, Sea's Claim, Fishliver Oil, and trying not to cry?"
As a famous blue-hater, I can appreciate this set. I always though Illusionary Pet was a cool card, as was Battle of Wits. I must say that I agree with the others that I though they were done hurting blue. Oh well.

Intensity, Integrity, Intelligence, Personified and Penguinified.
This sounds about right. MUC and U/G don't need any more toys, they have enough. The control oriented metagame is still pretty bland. Even with crap like Fishliver Oil it still isn't enough rapage...
They really are pushing for someone to break that Zur's Weirding aren't they? Unfortunatly its just going to sit there because there are much better combo pieces for Johnny to play with. I hope I'm wrong though.
Why? Because I won't get my hopes up for actually having a GOOD core set. This way, if it turns out to be real, I'm already cool with it; if it's fake (probably not), I'm happy.
The one thing that seems unrealistic about this is Fishliver Oil. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot? What on EARTH was R&D thinking?
silly rancored elf... tidings is a replacement for opportunity/concentrate... counsel of soratami replaces inspiration.
Reminice is interesting... as is withering gaze.
Fishliver oil seems like a joke... R&D making it obvious which color is getting the shaft.
(hmmm sea's claim too? sounds like phage is getting reprinted {hahahaha... ha})
trade routes stays when it seems like it should've gone... Are there any combos with returning lands to your hand?
with levitation and crafty pathmage all I can think is ninja ninja ninja.
clone is exactly what the kamigawa block needs running around.
why is so much onslaught being reprinted!? (also plenty of odyssey block) I think they are trying to say... look... we tried to kill blue with these bad cards. It seems like very little is being put in with the extended rotation in mind... instead it is all about standard. Blah on standard... give me energy flux!
soo many sorceries.... so bad.
tramatize is the most notable.
edit: no bribery = superplus happy me
edit2: magician of thought is probably right on this one... how can you make a color bad that has the two best characteristics... counterspells and card drawing
edit3: Are we taking this as true and adding it to the spoiler? It seems there is little skepticism.
It really is odd how many sorceries there are here. I wonder how R&D missed the boat on "blue prefers instants to sorceries." The Counsel and Tidings are just an insult to the color and you either have to play them or play countermagic. Never mind just being bad, it also isn't teaching newer players much about blue. . .
Blue sucks... that's about the only thing I can say, there's not a lot of useful stuff there, they even removed the hosers, could this be a sign of hoser power going down again? (this isn't good news for boil lovers). This is a let down, but then again it's blue.
OK So this makes blue pretty much crap. Yeah there's the useful Mana Leak and Rewind and the always good Traumatize makes an interesting return. Clone gives a little bit of something to blue's lack of creatures but otherwise this is pretty much crap. Battle of Wits and Polymorph tho make me just shrug my shoulders and say wtf was R&D thinking? Especially Battle of Wits. I mean I NEVER want to play another 250 card+ monstrosity in my life so I hope they cut down on the tutorage for a good long time.
R&D isnt doing new players anywhere near close to a favour, at the moment blue is almost completely dead with regards to Core set. We have mana Leak... WHOO, and Clone... it kills some legends.
What aobut when the new players have to find out MASSIVELY complex, difficult and stupid counter chains? When there are like.. 3-4 counter spells on ONE stack? They will be so confused since there is only like.. 2 decent coutner spells. Mana Leak, and Hinder.
Sigh, so much for a fairly even playing field. At the moment... there are few decks and green is everywhere... but... every colour is represented and showing its strengths.
Too bad thats gone and Extended is gone to ravager.

Where the hell is Unsummon? Blue doesn't even get UNSUMMON anymore?! I mean, that's about as inoffensively staple-ish as you can get, and if they didn't want broken counter or card draw, the least they could have done was give blue more than Boomerang and Temporal Adept (which is rare).
If this pattern continues, I'm fully expecting them to print sorcery counterspells in 10th. Ah, whatever, it's karma (the concept, not the card). Every time they've tried to nerf blue, they miss something and it tears up the joint. So, finally, they beat blue to death with a two by four, then kept pounding it into the ground until it was a fine paste (or should I say, Oil *snicker*) in a foot deep crater. Meanwhile, they seem to be doing what they can to make green rock.
Forest IS the new Island. It's good to be Green... at least, until the pendulum swings back.

Baleful Stare and Withering Gaze would be the hosers.

You have it all wrong. R&D is introducing new players to blue where it's in the spot it belongs and will be from now on.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Wizards really want to hose blue because they didn't want to see anymore MUC?
I mean, it's a tier 1 deck, and it has dominated standard. They probably didn't want to have their work of hosing blue to be undone. So I guess they just really want to crack down and make blue somewhat non-existant. (?)
they can't even give blue Steal Artifact? Annex is not a good replacement unless the next block has lots of man lands... i mean come on. this is such a bad list. No more Intruder Alarm either. that makes me sad...
Yay for Battle of Wits, Clone and Traumatize! Boo for everything else! No Hibernation (they seem to be hosing hosers), no Bribery...this stuff is garbage. Wanderguard Sentry? Telepathy? Fugitive Wizard? I'm no control mage, but I'm laughing at those who are. You got crap.
Apologies for giving less analysis than I gave for the white spoiler.

As an Alabamian, I take offense to that. Southern trailor park justice wouldn't leave anything in as bad a shape as 9th's Blue.

Pfft. If it weren't for Vedalken Shackles, blue would be pretty bad in standard. Or at the very least, it'd be one of the worst colors.
