Okay whoever was in charge of the blue part of the spoiler needs a good smack! This is significantly much worse than white, by far. I mean there are some good cards here, but white's list is 95% cream - this is maybe half playable. Some of the cards here have significantly better available cards which wouldn't have been too good or complex for a base set - and yet they used crappy cards instead.
Battle of Wits is interesting to see reprinted. Traumatize proves that black hasn't totally taken over the "kill your library" mechanic. And Tidings is a really nice replacement for Inspiration - I've always thought they'd eventually print it in a real set!
I don't know if I'll get anymore for a bit. I'll see what I can do - the source is busy with other stuff. Regardless, it'll be out in the open in no time anyway - 9th's out pretty soon!
Withering Gaze - my Portal "Spoiler" article predicted that one.
Exhaustion is nice too... but Fugitive Wizard? YOU @#*$S!!!
(Assuming this is the real spoiler, and totally correct...)
Erm......Clone. What esle? Not much. There is just nothing all that exciting here. R_E said it best in saying that the colors do not seem balanced, at all. White was amazing yet blue has kind of killed the buzz. I mean....this is boring.
Also any idea on the timeframe for the rest? Also will they be revealed in numberical order as the others have been or might they all come in at once.
And oh corase, thank you to the source as well as R_E.
Further Analysis to come.
Edit: Fishliver Oil??? Have you guys heard of this. Strange...very strange.
i'm shocked. no tradewind rider. no time stop, no brainstorm.
the only card i'm happy to see here is polymorph. and thats only because i love its artwork
so i know what that means. it'll get new art work.
its offical (and has been for several years now) blue sucks the royal blue blooded big one
black is next. and hopefully red and green before i wake up.
fortunatly i already know red is good just on the cards already known (i'm a red mage. so sue me) but i really am hopeful to get skittering skirge back in black.
as always thanks for the info elf. but i'll get obsceane if i have to comment more on blue
come one ball lightning, skittering skirge, rancor, 5 fetch and 10 pain lands
Wow, the white list got my hopes up for ninth prematurely. Sure, blue hase some cool cards like battle of wits and traumatize but i'd say more then 75% is useless filler. Let's hope the other colors are better then this. TY to R_E and your source.
OMG the greatest card in MTG history is back?!?!?! Hooray I can finally get a new bordered, foiled Fishliver Oil *cries of happiness*
Also, there are a couple of neat cards that is awesome to see back in T2 again.

Hang on, I need my gibber-to-english dictionary. Ah yes, here it is,
Well, um, thanks Elf and Source, but I wish I could actually get excited for blue in 9th. I really can't. Plagiarize might see some play in a wacky casual deck and I always liked Traumatize. I like Aven Fisher in Limited. Other than that, I'm thoroughly disappointed in blue's offerings. Ick.
Hmmm, something's odd, here. I think we're all just looking at this wrong. Take another look, and count how many support-basted cards you see.
I got to 50 before I decided to stop. Essentially, Wizards is trying to turn U into a strictly secondary color, though good at that role. Did anyone else notice this?

Some wonder why I carry 8 decks on me. The answer? I get tired of being boarded against in casual games, and 90% of the players I meet can't beat a jank deck I made to be tokens for a serious one.
poor poor blue
good thing im not too big of a blue fan. The absense of tradewind rider worries me though. I hope the painlands are still in....
exhaustion seems weird, after they just finished showcasing this ability in white, with yosei.
imaginery pet is the new okk!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but WotC say they were trying to make blue weaker in comparison to its cards in the past, so shouldn't a weak blue batch of cards make some sense in the core set?
This is especially true since it appears white actually appears to be strong instead of crap like in 8th.

Yes, but this is going a little too far I think. No Brainstorm, no instant Card Drawing, Blue really just got raped. With this batch of cards, it's highly unlikely that Blue will be competitive any time soon. I'm no blue mage, but this seems really unfair, especially with all the goodies other colors are getting. Black gets Hypnotic Specter, Green gets Verdant Force, White gets Wrath back and Gift of Estates. And Blue gets Fishliver Oil. Not exactly fair.

thats true, but blue JUST finished being good again, for a few months, and once mirrodin rotates out, it loses a bunch of its dwindling effectiveness.
Wow... and I thought they were done hitting Blue with the nerf stick.
Baleful Stare and Withering Gaze... talk about two names I'll constantly get confused. It looks like two opposing color hosers per color, and symmetrical ones at that -- CoP's for white, and, um, Angry Looks for blue. Both will probably be uncommon, so start thinking about the other 3 colors if you're impatient.
Boy, they like their sorcery-speed card draw here in the base set, don't they? Counsel of the Soratami AND Tidings, plus Sift, plus the two looks... Keep your hands on those Gifts Ungivens if you want to be doing anything blue and card-advantage like at the end of opponent's turn.
So, 999 blue will be, what? Drafting Sea Monster, Sea's Claim, Fishliver Oil, and trying not to cry?
Imaginary Pet! Oh lord... and I thought Okk was scary.
Battle of Wits? Traumatize? Clone? Cowardice? Geez, these rares are all OVER the place.
I'm starting to think Zur's Weirding will never die. "Skill testing," after all. To nurture those nascent Johnnies. Please, someone, make this card good so they stop printing it!
Azure Drake -- this replaces Fighting Drake, I think... makes Blue friendlier to play with another color, but will likely be uncommon. Ho hum.
Still no Walls, in either White or Blue now... i'm guessing that means there won't be ANY--a trifle unexpected, but makes a crazy kinda sense.
Overall: zzzzz. Tidings and Traumatize are neat, and it should be interesting to see Battle of Wits wandering around again, but otherwise... I hope blue is just the bad color in the set.
*sigh* what a waste. Battle of Wits is the only thing I'm happy to see. The rest of it is sludge. The Oil surprises me...I thought wizards wasn't too content with landwalk, though apparently they don't mind it. I was desperately craving Brainstorm back, especially without counterspell and shackles going out. Changing hibernation for the reveal-to-draw is kinda lame. Hibernation could at least sideboard in and become a bomb. Polymorph is borderline out of flavor. Whatever. I'm horribly unimpressed.
In what universe? If you build a deck like that, and ever draw that hand, I will personally come to wherever you live, perform complicated acts of awestruck ********, then disembowel myself to escape the world that allowed something like to to occur and validate you.
No Personal Tutor? How badly does this discredit Gunslinga (or his source, if applicable)?
EDIT: No tutors at all? WTF?

Every time I destroy an opponent's creature, I jump on the table, yell "Boo ya, you son of a *****!", rip the card in half, urinate on it, then forcefully shove it down my opponent's throat.
Needless to say, I don't have many players in my playgroup anymore.
Interesting indeed. Tis sad, after seeing White I kinda hoped that one of my favorite colors would gain something. Tis good that Magpie is still about, I can play M:symu:C for a bit longer.
Now heres a question, Battle of Wits. Not competitive, but could it be at least somewhat consistent in Type II?

And what's with the constant reprinting of Zur's Weirding?! Traumatize?! Imaginary Pet?! Battle of Wits?! What are they trying to do?
Why has R&D been hosing blue?!
Mmm.. interesting how it's still Horned Turtle and not River Kaijin. Redundant with Lumengrid Warden too.

I'm sad. I'm a blue mage and there's nothing there for me. We don't even get Spiketail Hatchling Lol can we even play fish anymore with ninth?

The hosers do the same thing to different colours.
White's hosers turned out to be Circle of Protection: Black and Circle of Protection: Red
Now blue gets Baleful Stare and Withering Gaze
I'm guessing black = Execute and Slay
Red = Boil and Flashfires
and green = Bull Hippo and Anaconda or Wild Ox or Zodiac Ox
EDIT: No tutors at all? WTF?
