This is really cool because I've been looking at Greater Good for a long time saying to myself, "Hmmm that is cool with some of the T2 cards" Right now it wont make a big impact, I think, but with Ravnica coming soon thereafter 9th I can see some pretty fun stuff with Greater Good........maybe.
How is a card like this in B/G that allows someone to attack with Kokusho, then sac him to this on the 2nd main phase netting 10 life in one turn, plus letting you draw 6 cards and discard 3 for a total of 3 card draw, not going to make a big impact right now? Not to mention you can sacrifice Simulacrum to it as well to net a card, then draw 4 and discard 3 for a total of two more cards.
First of all, thank you source, and thank you R_E!
So, does this mean sacrificing is back? hmm.
Oh, and you know Greater Good really is good with? Kiki-Jiki'd Darksteel Colossus tokens.(Not that it'll ever see play in Tooth since that is completely a win-more combo, but still...)
Oh, and I've always had an irrational liking for the Crusher, because the opponent can't afford to let it through. Hopefully any Rath Cycle cards keep their original art, because I love the dark feel of Rath.

just think of it as Ankh (you know... an Ankh) More Pork, Ian. That's how I remember it :tongue2: (without the e, anyway)
That's how to remember my name. Or, you could just read the Discworld Novels by Terry Pratchett. I recommend the second method.:)

And dear god, it's on the INTERNET! It has to be true!
...riight.
Well where I am B/G isnt a problem.....my meta is a bit whacked out. I should speak a bit more general from now on. Yes it will make an Impact. :tongue2:
There are always around the needle and Hyppie. Like Naturalize or Shock so yeah we will all be running R/B/G. Hey who knows? But as for now it will be tried in decks at least.
Eh...Needle is good but it is very easy to get rid of. Red and Green have all of that artifact hosing, blue could counter it. Black is always with green and WW shouldn't even have a problem with the Needle.
It seems like Wotc are trying to keep green powerful in t2 seeing as with Mirrodin rotating out green will lose a lot of its potency. With this maybe big green will have a chance without the sheer power of mirrodin.
"Wall of Roots trades with Doran. Doran doesn't like Wall of Roots. You would think he might, as they are both trees. But Doran is a sociopathic tree. He and other trees don't get along – hell, he doesn't even get along with himself. Have you seen what happens when you cast two Dorans? Let me tell you, it isn't pretty." -Uri Peleg
Coooooool. . . now they need to put Sneak Attack in there with it!
If you feel strongly about this, you can hold your breath and see.
Hey everyone else... when he passes out, let's divvy up his cards...

I think Green has been one of the better graveyard recursion colors for a long, long time. Black is king, of course, but Green has had a long history of recycling abilities of various flavors. They're probably the second-best color at doing it in general and probably the best color at recycling any arbitrary card thanks to abilities like Eternal Witness.
It's not as much being a secondary recursion color, but the fact that you have to look at what kind of recursion is taking place. is the color of creature recursion, is about recurring cards.
recursion Creature into play Artifact/Enchantment into hand Artifact/Enchantment into play Mass Artifact/Enchantment recursion
recursion Artifact into hand Artifact into play Instant/Sorcery into hand Mass cards into Library Mass amount of cards into hand (shifted to :symg:)
recursion Creatures into play Creatures into hand Creatures w/ built-in recursion Mass creature recursion
recursion Creature w/ built in recursion - very limited
recursion Card into hand Card into Library Mass amount of cards into hand (shifted away from :symu:)
has always been good at indiscriminately giving cards back to a player while is about reanimating and recycling creatures so this really should not be news as it falls well with in :symg:'s perview to be very involved in card recursion.

Greater Good comboes well with Genju of the Spires! Draw 6, discard 3, lose only a mountain and some mana in the process.
This is going to make Kokusho and B/G a real pain in the ass...

Looks like the needle is going to be in very deck in standard, cuz of its ability to hose everything.
Pithing Needle is a card I've thought was long overdue. Sure, it's going to be everywhere. Eventually it will rotate and once again all will be good in the activated ability world.
On a side note, it seems some are too focused on Greater Good's card drawing. As a whole, it provides more than card draw, but a more balanced means of setting up recursion much the was Wild Mongrel set up Madness. Look past the drawing and it provides a means to set up some cool recursion.

man, 9th edition is turning out to be awesome...i just hope it has that good nostalgic feel that makes Magic so great...i'm counting on Wizard's not to bail out...and greater good might have some awesome combo potential...
Well this is certainly interesting. If this info is true, this should be one of the freshest and slightly random core sets ever. Getting back Greater Good is awesome...this set is really shaping up to be awesome...
Slighty random core set hmmmmmm Brilliant! With Greater Good and all the hooplah on other threads it looks like 9th is shaping up to be a great core set.
Not to mention you can sacrifice Simulacrum to it as well to net a card, then draw 4 and discard 3 for a total of two more cards.
I'm just not sure you're using the cards right. If you have Greater Good out, you can play Solemn Simulacrum to get the Rampant Growth effect, sure. But if you sac it to the Good, you draw a card when you sac it, then 2 for the Good, and then you discard 3 cards. In all, using 2GG for the Good and 4 for the Simulacrum, you put a basic land into play, drew 3 cards, and discarded 3 cards. Probably not the best example of Good's abusiveness.
EDIT:
Quote from KarmicNoose »
The better a set seems though, the more it usually sucks. Look at Champions, everyone was excited, then a kick in the balls.
Core Sets are filled with cards we already understand. If they're reprinting cards that we know are good/fun/useful/cool, the set will be good/fun/useful/cool. With expansions, you're right, sometimes the new cards can seem good, and then you test them and realize they're not what you thought. It's all in a person's ability to have vision, I guess. If you're constantly getting "tricked" by new cards, you probably lack it.
EDIT: With the increase in green cards lately that seem to have something to do with the graveyard, I wonder if green is becoming the secondary "graveyard recursion" colour. If so, Greater Good might be even more relevant than it was the first time around - when it was simply just another cool/decent card in a block full of total brokenness.
I think it's more the flavor of how Green is nature, how we learn from those who have lived and died before us, and using the power of nature to revive the old in new forms. (Reincarnation, maybe?)
Oh, yeah, and there's also the flavor of "if you mess with nature, it'll kick your butt with some huge creatures" that's being brought back with Force of Nature and trample.
9th desenced from the mountain and said "Halt, I am a core edition with good cards".
And all praised R_E for leading them to him, for once 9th had said this, a good time was had by all....

Greater Good: Let me get this straight. We got this, Verdant Force AND Force of Nature? I guess green is going to be #2 when it comes to drawing cards.

"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing."
Greater Good is AMAZING! I have waited for that card to rotate back in to standard. Now I can finally make a Decent Black Green Reanimator deck with Kuro Pitlords and Goryo's Vengeance!!!
This card fixes the reanimator deck. Not only does it let you draw a lot of cards, it also fills your yard with fat creatures at the same time. It ALSO gives you a way to sacrifice Iname As One and Kuro Pitlord after you Vengeance them into play. Wowowowowowowow. This card is going to make me do a LOT of happy dances!
