Someone I've never received info from before sent me an email today, saying their local store opened a booster early, and he got to see most of the cards. A few were cards we already know, and he didn't memorize all of them, but here were two he did.
Name1 -
Sorcery - Arcane (C)
Destroy target land.
Name2 -
Artifact (R)
:2mana:, Sacrifice Name2: Target creature gets +X/+0 until end of turn, where X is that creature's power.
Once again, I don't know this person, and I've never had info from them before, but at this point in the game coming up with fakes is pretty futile, as we'll have the full spoiler in a matter of days or even hours. He wishes to remain anonymous.
Second one's pretty funny with Blazing Shoal...The fact that its a colorless artifact with a fairly cheap activation cost makes it quite nice, IMO.
The LD is so-so, its kinda sorta OK-priced; but LD decks often just need plain numbers, and 3 3-cost good LD spells in standard is probably more than is healthy. Should have been instant to make it more interesting though...

that's not what happened at all. kamahl stabbed phage, akroma, and some old lady and they became korona. then korona got stabbed by her "prophets" and kamahl got drunk with a mutant centaur
The land nuker is subpar, but will probably be okay in Limited as a synnergistic way for Spirit/Arcane decks to smush lands.
And that artifact is kinda meh. Wasn't there a Nantuko that did that without getting sacrificed? Well I guess this is available for each color, but still, it's a rare. Poo. ETA: Thanks, Moss Elemental, Nantuko Mentor it is.
They probably didn't make the first one 1RR because then there'd be 3 3-cc land destruction spells in Standard, and Wizards is very cautious about making dedicated LD playable. Losing to land destruction is one of players' least favorite ways to lose, so Wizards simply isn't going to provide the tools for dedicated LD.
Artifact - Has to be a uncommon or costed cheaper to be playable.
Maybe I'm reading this wrong, but what does rarity have to do with playability?
And while I'm not going to claim its good I do think the new stone rain is costed correctly.
And why all the complaining about "Oh they just took <card> and made it Arcane"? A high percentage of any set is just variations on a theme. I actually thought ARcane was a rather elegant solution this time. I wouldn't want to see it again next block, but I still think it's a elegant solution.
Crappy land destruction. Terible berserk remake as a rare. This set is starting to sound like the new Prophecy. I have finnaly lost my support for this block. Champions was so-so but not bad so I had hi hopes. Then came betrayers that sucked, I still had hope for saviors to be good. Atleast this set is as good as champions.
BTW- I still love this block from a casual and flavor point of veiw. I will get 2 boxes of this set. It seems better than betrayers which I got 1.5 boxes of.
Dude if these are the two cards that have made you lose support for this block you never supported it in the first place.^_^;
No, it wouldn't. It would still be harder to cast than stone rain. The arcaneness really isn't that valuable. Plus land-destruction just can't cost this much, one land on turn 4 (after turn 4 if you played 2nd) is just not very good.
yes it would. it would single-handedly ruin the block format
I'd think the first one should cost 3R rather than 2RR. Look at uproot, it was raised from fallow earth's 2G to a 3G when made arcane. Why does the stone rain gain a whole R when many other arcanes gain 1 or even no cost.

There's quite a lot of land destruction running around the block right now. I'm surprised to see an Arcane land destruction card this late in the block, but I agree with both sides. It won't see much play at 2RR, and anything cheaper would have been too bad.
Let's see. The land destruction cards in Block (in Red):
Stone Rain
this card
Thoughts of Ruin
Akki Blizzard Herder
Crack the Earth
Those are off the top of my head. There doesn't need to be much more. Crack the Earth, especially, is brutal (it's a little more balanced than Strip Mine, but not by all that much).
The red land destruction cards (by volume) surprise me about as much as black hand destruction cards (by volume) do.
You're saying that lowering the cost of a 4-mana LD spell to 1RR would completely ruin an entire format?! No, dude, Skullclamp ruins formats. Making cards vaguely playable does not.
Scenario: You play all 3 LD cards in your deck in multiples of 4 so you draw like 2 in opening hand. When you get to three mana you play one. Then, when you get to four mana you play another one. If they lowered the CC that would mean you'd have 1 extra mana to spend, on turn 4, wow, broken, really really broken.
the format is a mostly slow control (with some weenie). a good land destruction deck would ruin the player interaction currently available, and all it takes for a good land destruction deck is two red land kill spells for 3 mana
Dude, sorry, missed that. My excuse is I'm tired and have been revising horrible maths all day. Thought you were talking about standard. My bad.:embarrass:
Y'all have seen PT: Philly, right? You are aware that there's a little thing called a Hana Kami loop out there in block that is part of one of the most competitive decks around?
If that LD spell cost any less, it very well could have broken the format given the current metagame. Infinite LD is somewhat difficult to combat. This spell (if true) will show up in block Gifts decks, of this I have no doubt. Luckily with the RR mana cost, it won't be overpowering.
Both card a ok the land d is stupid it be good if cost 3 oh will the second one may be played in limited but they are both so-so here wait for full list card in the two day go ElF

that wouldn't have been overpowered at all

Name2: It might have its uses. It would've been better if you didn't sacrifice it, like Nantuko Mentor

WoTC is KRAZY. It will be played in draft and at the Pre-Release though (just like most of the cards in this set...)
Artifact - Has to be a uncommon or costed cheaper to be playable.
Final Consensus - Nerfed, and underpowered. I believe it because its just SO bad!

He probably meant limited playabilty. Because if this were a common or even an uncommon, it would almost be good in Limited. As a rare, not so much.
