I'm having trouble falling in love with that bloated gasbag, but I know it's a decent card. I just can't get into it. Yeah, a 6 mana conditional wrath, or a black Maro... meh. I just get the feeling that it looks good on paper, and then doesn't end up being a power rare or anything.
The monks are okay too. I think my the time you have 5 mana, most creature based beatdown decks have emptied their hands. But if you can maintain him at 7/6, good for you, you got him for a bargain price. Splashable's good.
Oh, I must say, I appreciate legends that can sac themselves. That's a plus.

I myself can't get ''Kagemaro, Second to Suck'' out of my mind. I mean it's better than Kiyomaro by a very large margin, but it's still inferior to Soramaro. Makes me wonder if we are going to see a better Maro, or if the best one is indeed the one that comes in a precon... it just bugs me that both the blue and white maros have 2 abilities aside the maro ability, and the black one could easily have Fear, but somehow it doesn't. I don't know, maybe it's me overlooking the 'hand mechanic', but it just seems poor. I need 7 cards in hand to have a 6/6 for 5 when I play Kagemaro, what would make it good. The mutilate is expensive and situational. Meh.
The monks are awesome. Splashable and all, and 'more than your opponents' is a lot better than 'more than 4' or another number. This is going to be a 7/6 very often, and laughs in the face of most legends. I like it, solid limited common.
The reason I like Kagemaro over the white one is the same you mentioned, R_E: I like legends that can sac themselves. Perhaps that's why I like Arashi and Jiwari, because extra copies don't sit useless in your hand.
I love this black Maro. And it's a Demon Spirit too.He going to fit in nicely with tha 5/5 demon in Betrayers. I bet this is going to really popular at the pre-release. I hope to get 2 for my Demon deck.

I'm going to go with everyone else and say that Nightwatch will be decent-to-good in limited, but Kagemaro might get played in constructed. I'm just not sure there's enough support for a Tier 1 build of MBC.

...riight.
Kagemaro is amazing. In a green black deck especially this guy is nuts. He costs 5 which is easy to do by turn 3 or 4. That means he's usually a 6/6 or a 5/5 and should only get bigger from then on. It's not bad that you can make him an 8/8 before attacking then play something. His ability to kill everything is great since it costs 1 mana.
Nightwatch is common O_O... It's in a small set O_O...... WOW. That card is hot. Maybe keeping more cards in your hand than your opponent is harder than it used to be. In limited black green becomes really good if you can power out 3Trag or Myojin of Night's Reach. a 7/6 for 5... and the possibility of getting two or more of them is hot hot. This guys is certainly a high pick. As is Kagemaro of course but that's a rare.
Kagemaro is also a demon which helps out your demon/ogre decks. And it makes sense that Kagemaro's Clutch is such a powerful removal spell.
Am I the only person that thinks it's weird that they templated this legend's ability the way they used to template old cards? ala Tetsuo Umezawa
It says:"B, Sacrifice Kagemaro:..."
instead of "B, Sacrifice Kagemaro, First to suffer:..."
That's pretty much how it's always been. They write out the full name the first time it turns up in the text box (I think you may have overlooked that on Kagemaro's first sentence), and abbreviate it the other times (if there is anything to abbreviate, of course)
Thou shalt not have others of the same Legendary before me Thou shalt not frame images with the modern card face Thou shalt not change rules in vain Remember the Reserved List to keep it holy Honor thy Slivers and the symmetry of their abilities Thou shalt not kill mana burn Thou shalt not sacrifice depth for accessibility Thou shalt not steal combat damage from the stack Thou shalt tell a story through thy cards All must be one
I like it better. I mean I think they should have the legend rule apply the the word before the comma in their title like Kamahl Fist of Krosa and Kamahl Pitfighter would kill each other with the legend rule. Because "Sacrifice Kamahl" could mean either one. I think it shortens things and doesn't confuse the issue as long as there aren't two legends with the same name before the comma in the environment.
OMG.....No *beep* way...... W:yikes:W. Kagemaro's pic is just absolutely horrible that it makes Demons look bad. I mean demons are a race where their physical looks are perfectly fit(some are buff) and that they look terrifying. This one, *sighs*, I dont even think that it should have the demon creature type. It embarrasses the whole demon community as a whole as far as I'm concerned. That pic reminds me of that creature from Star Wars(cant remember the name) and last time I heard, that creature was nowhere near terrifying :slant:

I don't think the green guy is as good as everyone is saying he is. Cards that depend on your handsize are easy to manipulate, but cards that depend on an opponent's are not so simple. Since almost everyone will likely be trying to have the biggest hand in a Saviors-heavy Limited format like prerelease, it's not a good bet that you'll win that fight. But, it is a 4/3 for 4G which isn't terrible, so I could see it being in a number of decks that have a Green part already.
Am I the only one who don't believe how brutal the green COMMON can get in limited? 7/6 for FIVE MANA? Gosh!
And yeah, Kagemaro is probably the best maro.

Definately not, a 7/6 for 5 with the only drawback being that you need to have many cards is still insane. Just compare it to Shivan Wurm. Sure, the Wurm gets to have trample, but it's also in two colors and requires you to gate (which, can also be a boon, but I'm assuming Wizards wanted it to be more of a drawback), whereas this will more often than not be a huge body almost all of the time, in one color (and also easily splashed) for the same cost at a lower rarity. Friggin' good card.
ETA: Just wanted to add that Okina Nightwatch is harder to abuse in multiplayer, obviously. And he gets bigger even if you have a small hand, as long as your opponent has even one card less than you. Insane when paired up with either black's discard or blue's Soratami. Both can keep you at least one card above your opponent.
Yeah, Kagemaro is good. I actually have nothing else to say about him. He's wicked. Kinda Hutt-ish, but still awesome. Smash face or Mutilate everyone. Both are great. 'Nuff said.
Both of these cards, and plenty of others like them, are going to have players with a lot of mana available during the opponents turn. Why? Because simply by NOT playing a card, you can make them stronger. That's an important aspect of these cards. If the process of 'not' playing a card can strengthen your creatures, it significantly changes the way that you have to look at your mana pool.
Example: You play Kagemaro. You have 3 or 4 cards in hand afterwards, maybe some other creature in play. If you get into a 'standoff' position where the enemy has creatures the same size as yours, you just wait turn after turn, until yours are even stronger. Even more so, it adds additional value to creature based abilities. A very over costed static ability (A-la Stolen flame enchant thinggy, don't remember the name) becomes more valuable when you can use it while not needing to expend hand resources.
That's pretty much how it's always been. They write out the full name the first time it turns up in the text box (I think you may have overlooked that on Kagemaro's first sentence), and abbreviate it the other times (if there is anything to abbreviate, of course)

I've put this forward before, and I agree with you. A card's name for the purpose of the legend rule should only look at the word before the comma. Additionaly they should Errata all legendary creatures like Balthor the Defiled & Balthor the Stout to be Balthor, the Defiled & Balthor, the Scout.
After my Kagemaro bashing, its time for me to rate Okina Night Watch.
W0W. A common card with a potential of being 7/6 for only for 5 mana? Thats pretty sweet IMO. The artwork aint that bad either.
With that said, I give this card:

Seriously though, the man has more magic cards named after than anyone, up to and including Kagemaro. It's bound to keep his ego chubby even after all the broken cards he designed (or is he actually proud of them?).
Oh My CRAPPING JESUS!!!! MARO WROTE A SCRIPTO THINGY!!!!! WTF!WTF?WTF?. To be somewhat on topic, mutilate is back in business with a body! The green common is pretty good in limited if you say play blue for draw or just play conservatively.
