Maybe its a sweep starstorm effect? Or is that on a card already? Even so this is a block card and will be seeing play there. But in constructed play it wont make such a splash. its just not a good card in compliance with the rest of the red strategies, mostly cause LD needs land and so does beats if their threats are dealt with. Then again both of those decks dont have many cards in hand at anytimes. Im surprised if I have 1 card in hand at anytimes playing red when I have 4 mana on the board. Just MHO

The concept I'm talking about is "tempo". Please look it up.
Crack the Earth :
- has generally less impact.
- is a 2-for-1, where I'm taking of 3-for-2 or 4-for-3.
- isn't as ridiculous as you may think, except for the above-mentioned 2-for-1 ratio.
What I am talking about is, it is NOT optimal this way. Armageddon was so good because it left the opponent RESOURCELESS. After you cast this card with two cards in hand, well, people will still be able to Terror, Terashi's Verdict, Shock or bounce your attacker.
Saying it again, this is NOT optimal. If you disagree, well, we'll have to wait for Regionals reports.
Perhaps I will swallow my words, but using morphling and necropotence in the same sentence as this card is drawing a poor comparison. I doubt this will pan out to be that exciting... In its favor, Tectonic Break (a much more comparable card) was used a bit ponza style decks. However, this just strikes me as a win more card. In the situations where you can cause real harm to your opponent is when you have 4 or 5 cards in hand. Under the right conditions of land destruction this will keep them down. It will be good a fair amount of the time, but it will suck enough of the time, that tournament players will use better cards. I am talking about standard... I know nothing of extended, and beyond that I think you would have access to Armageddon. This card might see some play in block, but I doubt that it will be sucessful. It will be riding on the back of better cards.
Don't imagine best case senarios, think about the worst case. This is the only card in hand... it does nothing. This and 1 more card in hand... and it is a 2rr tremble .. This and 2 cards in hand and it just became a tectonic break ... But the nice thing about Tectonic break was with no cards in hand you could top deck it and blow away X lands... This and 3 other cards in hand... it is just beginning to look good, but depends on where you are in the game. Maybe this will hurt tooth and nail, a good sideboard card maybe..
I'm amazed at the disparity of opinions on this card. It's been called "a 25 cent rare" right after being called "better than armageddon". I don't think any other card has ever drawn this kind of reaction.

Dont' be. Everyone plays magic for different reasons, and because of that we all have interpretations for different cards. I see this card fitting a nice roll in a U/R control deck. Meloku? Nice synergy.
This card is worthless in a mono red deck. It's kinda hard for mono red to have any sort of good hand by the fourth land drop.
U/R with Moonfolk or W/R with Sweep may work well, though.

This card is ridiculous. Anyone who says otherwise forgets that Ponza is already bordering between Tier 1 and Tier 2. This card is not for casual players. They have said that making land destruction spells for casual players is pointless unless it is better than Armageddon and that research shows that most casual players don't like LD to start with. That said, this card will change standard as the ability to nuke 3 lands is too much. As for the person who asked how many cards could red have in their hand anyway? Well, I know that assuming the game goes according to plan I will have enough to kill all my opponent lands.
Here is a scenario:
Going first you lay Mountain, Mox, Imprint, Slith. 4 Cards left in hand.
Next turn land, hearth Kami. 3 Cards lieft in hand.
Turn 3 drop a land, play Thoughts of Ruin, kill both of you opponent's lands and still be swinging with the "boys". And you still have a land, a mox, and two cards in your hand.
Paying 2RR for a Tremor doesn't seem terribly good to me. It's no Barter in Blood. Red needs a more powerful hand to power the Thoughts.
Under your example:
7 cards in hand
Mountain, Mox, imprint, Slith Firewalker. (3 cards in hand)
(4 cards) Mountain, Hearth Kami. (2 cards)
(3 cards) Mountain (2 cards), Thoughts of Ruin (1 card in hand).
Each player sacrifices a land.

I don't like this card. In a Goblin Deck, The hand size is like 2 by turn four. Destory 2 lands isn't worth it.
Might be good in Ponaza but I think they will have other stuff to add in instead.
This card is going to be in the dollar binders within Days

Hahaha Imprint is not a card so yuor math is kinda off there. I think this could work even if you leave one of your opponents lands in play. Your still at a confterble temp advantage that way.

Even 2 lands might be worth it, in the right build. I think it goes more into a controlling Blue/Red build, but that's just me.
Also, noting that the Blue 'flip' creature/enchantment is a Moonfolk and the Green one is a Snake (apparently, from the art); I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Red one is an Akki that flips when a certain number of land hit the graveyard in a turn. With the amount of land destruction that red has (both theirs and their opponent's), it may not be too hard to flip. That may be another use for this card. Unfortunately, the most obvious effect of the flipped card would be Ankh of Mishra, but they already have that on Zo-Zu.
(7 cards)Turn 1= Forest (-1), Birds (-1) =(5)
(6 cards)Turn 2= Land (-1) Reach (+0)=(5)
(6 cards)Turn 3=Land, (-1) Thoughts (-1)
So, even on the play, the thoughts is for 4, and for 5 on the draw. That's definetely a n armageddon.

Plus, you get a four-for-one on your own cards, which is card advantage.
If I didnt make my point before clear here it is. IMHO This doesnt belong in Mono-Red. not beats, not Ponza, nada. This HOWEVER does belong in a control oriented deck, i.e. u/r, r/g, hell even r/b. This card can stall and geddon if you play it right. However it doesnt really do either of those in mono-red, which you really dont want to do in those decks anyways.

Damn, I have to admit this card is working really well in my Red legends block deck (Ishi, godo, tenza, jitte, brothers, Zo-zu, kumano, shaku, etc) closing up the game on turn 3 or 4 most times, as it has great synergy with honor-worn shaku & Zo-Zu. Very nice card!
ive been testing iy in G/R and so far it has been great, usually hitting for 3 lands on turn 4 meanwhile i have a either birds or mox or both and usually a land in hand to drop afterwards.

I'm kind of iffy w/ this card. It seems like a late game card for Ponza, I guess, when you have 5-6 cards in hand (oh, who am I kidding? You're playing Ponza. You'll have, at best, 2 cards in your hand) and you don't have that early stream of landkill every turn and your opponent just looks like he or she is stabilizing, then you bust this out and leave yourself w/ just enough mana to cast your 6/6 Magnivore and punch your opponent in the teeth. This is assuming that the above is a good idea.
It's not an early game card, can be one sided in your favor (EG: you're playing LD and you still have lands after it resolves), and probably won't be armageddon. IMO, it looks a lot like Barter in Blood: Land Edition, From Parker Brothers.

Not likely, since we already have Jiwari.
Not really. Four mana for a double Raze (or Crack the Earth, since it's Raze most often than not) looks hardly tournament worthy.
