That article details an interesting new "event" that Wizards is doing. It's neat to see they have decided to support the purely collectible side of Magic.
It also mentions a new magazine about Magic from Beckett. The interesting thing about the magazine is that it seems to be completely about Magic while most magazines nowadays are about CCGs in general. I hope WotC is giving a lot of official support to it because I really enjoyed The Duelist and TopDeck magazines when they were around.
I dont think a magic magazine is gonna sell very well, with the official magic website, starcity, brainburst, and of course salvation, each putting out 50+ articles a month. Do you really want to pay for 10 more a month?
What al said. Or if they have the one where you can get packs with each magazine or something. I liked that idea. The deck analysis section was always iffy, but an interesting read nonetheless.
Just thought I'd say you rock for your sig.

Thanks Xen. My sig was actually inspired by you. When you were starting this place, I think you had a NIN banner in your own sig. That plus the name of the site just made me think of that line, and it was too appropriate to ignore.
I subscrbe yearly to it.. no matter the price. I am just weird like that. I have a whole bookshelf of gaming magazines with MAGIC featured in it. I did, however, stop collecting Scrye because it was worthless in my opinion.
I agree with others... if it includes cards, I'll get it. Plus, there's something to be said for professional articles over amateur ones. Although there's something to be said the other way around, too...
I always enjoyed The Duelist/TopDeck, they had tons of official interviews with artsits, writers, short stories, editorials and things that just dont have a place in the current online MTG world, If it is interesting I will pick it up, if it has promos, I will grab it for sure.
Finally a semi-reliable source. I still prefer magictrader.com's e-bay price list but beckett has the best hard copy price lists out there (at least concerning sports cards...). I mean by far it's not perfect but it's a BIG step up from Scrye and Inquest (which is all we get around here).
i got a feeling this is only going to last a year at most. There is too much magazine competion as there is. They only way it will get noticed is alot of promos or alot of secert magic info like rumors about SOK. And with all of this free stuff online, ther not much you could went form the magazine.

Magazines wont have promos, wizards already discussed this in an article a while ago. Promos that were in magazines efore include mana crypt and nathali dragon. The only promos they would be able to make are promos of already exsisting cards. Like FNM or Arena league cards.
The reason they don't do promos is because of the power level of promos and accessibility issues. However, if this magazine was widely distributed, I'm pretty sure there's a chance they may do some promos for it that're reasonably powered.

I remember when the TopDeck magazines used to come with a different booster pack from a Wizards game each month. Perhaps that would even be a possibility.
I've read the Beckett publications for DBZ, Pokemon (that was a long time ago), 'anime', and I've sold the foily covered YGO! ones. Having seen all of them... they're really really horrible, the price guides are quite faulty, the information is sub-par at best (most of the decklists provided in any kind of deckbuilding section is off. Example: Piccolo Orange for DBZ when Piccolo Namek and Piccolo Black were the only possible Piccolo based decks at the time). The deck clinique isn't even as helpful as a forum... and if it's quarterly, it gets reemed because all of the magic information is something that IQ, Scrye, and all the other established Magazines have a hard enough time keeping up with; how can a quarterly magazine provide for what a monthly magazine does an almost OK job of doing?
I don't expect much from this... unless they give away stuff.

Depends on the quality, because, with the exception of MTG.com, I wouldn't read those sites if I got paid $10.
I think i would buy the magazine. I might not subscribe to it, but i certainly might pick them up from the local card store. But if they had alternate art/promos, then for sure i would subscibe (maybe even four times)

if the beckette's magazine is cheaper then scrye, i'll be happy since my store owner currently uses scrye and said when this one comes out he'll go by these prices. my store owner is not much a comicbook shop but a collectable s place. it actually took him awhile for us to convince him to get sanctioned.

i like banning people because it makes people I don't like go away
there will be a steady downfall in most of the card magazines that are out right now and that try to come out right now. it is easly to say that inquest and maybe scrye might still be around.
I must say Cube Drafting is Fun. Since its mostly the only drafting i do.

I never was a fan of the Beckett magazines. We'll see how this turns out.

The magazine itself shouldn't be horrible, if not slightly behind all the websites.
