I want both Arashi and Jiwari, they seem very playable, though I'm guessing that Jiwari won't be as efficient since quake is stronger than hurricane, prob XRRR and not as powerful, but still good.
Funny, I was just piecing that together myself St@rWiz dude! U/R could be incredibly strong with cards like Jiwari, Meloku, heck even Soramaro if you were game, Oppressive will, Hisoka's defiance etc, ...very strong.
Don´t say it!! :biggrin3:
I would throw 1/2 Quash too to wreck Gifts/Extraction and other stuff, perhaps 2 hinder, and yeah maybe Will and other stuff too! Soramaro is great, as it also flies and works wonders with the sweeping effect of Jiwari!!
Now that I think of it, though, I´d add green for the Elder/Reach/Top combo. Mana acceleration would be nutty. Whoa I will proxy the Saviors stuff for this deck the minute I go home
Cycling (Uzras) Discard this card to draw a card
Cycling (OLS) Uzra's cycle plus possible effects from card or other cards in play. These effects from the card are weaker when cycled than when playing card themselves. Cycling can cost colored mana. (Also landcyclers exist!)
Channel: Pay colored mana cost, card does a STRONGER effect that it would in normal form.
Of course, another abused mechanic these days also strongly resembles an older one.
Kicker: Pay another cost, get another effect out of card
Entwine: Pay another cost, get another effect out of card.
Wow, those two look similar.....
-------------
Channel looks pretty good, even though it seems to be another form of cycling. But if we abuse and love entwine, why can't we give channel a chance?

I love Joboman, Poggy, Niv, and Vezok, because, while they may not be the best players, they still try to win. Having fun is the most important thing to a game, but I've learned that if you don't try to win, then you're ruining everyone else's fun.

Channel does not give you a card...
Play it or channel it, you lose a card anyway.
Sooner or later, we'll see something reverse-channel like this:
~name~ 3R
Instant
~name~ deal 3 damage to target creature or player.
Soild - 3RR: Put ~name~ into play as a 5/2 red creature with haste.

I do not sign 5yr+ old cards. Please do not pm me for this.
" Channel: Pay colored mana cost, card does a STRONGER effect that it would in normal form."
Does that ever say Draw a card?
BTW, the effects of OLS cycling weren't on every cycler..... Some were just plain boring cycling. Which of course Channel bares no resemblance too.

For all you guys hating on Channel, you should be glad then that it's just a third set mechanic.
Personally I like that it's kinda of an "anti-cycling". Did anyone really hate cycling that much that a similar concept such as turning up the effect (instead of down) is that bad? Besides, you may grow to like these things once you play them.
This set hasn't come out yet, I guess I don't understand how Channel can "tired" already, even if it seems similar. They're not the same thing.

Like has been said previously don't compare it to cycling, but rather a split card. If you play it you get a creature, or if you pay the channel cost you get an instant effect. Cycling gave you a limited effect if any + a card or a creature/spell that was typically just so-so with a few exceptions to the rule. While this may resemble cycling in a way I can definitely see differences.
i played in a tournament on fridcay. i played affintiy to a sedond place finish. vial lis broken i wonws many games son th3e poever oif it.
Unless i am mistaken Oxidize, V Shaman and E Witness are showing up in just as many decks and warping the metagame as much as Affinity. They should just ban all of Mirrodin block. Onslaught was always the best block ever. I had a U/W Cleric wizard deck that couldnt be beat.
Sweet, thanks R_E thats heaps more information and its always nice to know whats in a precon in advance(even though this precon isn't going to be all that great imho).
my problem with channel is that it is a third set mechanic.
This is the kind of ability that could be used and used over and over again.
This ability turns creatures into uncounterable spells.
Do you people not realize this? Has it simply escaped your notice that the red rare channeler is an uncounterable earthquake (albeit for 2 mana more, cry more)?
This ability is incredible, it can be played under Epic limitations, it can be played under mono blue limitations, it can be played under Orim's Chant for god's sake.
It might be pricey, but you are paying for the ability to cast spells without casting spells.
quick question: is Jiwari and Arashi part of a cycle of 5? or is it like black knight-white knight?
I don't think we're 100% sure on that one, but I think it's just the two cards, kind of like the original spells they represent.
As for Jiwari's P/T, the source spoke to me today and said he's pretty sure it was 5/5... which apparently the Orb doesn't confirm. He's going to track down his copy of the card and let me know at some point. 5/5 seems strong considering his abilities are better than Arashi's, but I wouldn't put it past WotC because of how desperately they like to cling to symmetry.

The Orb has no problem with there being another 5/5? Maybe I'm reading the statement wrong? Orb gives two instances of 5/5. So far we only have Arashi.
Damn... That really is too bad. First the XRRR instead of XRR and now a 3/3 instead of 5/5. It could have been a great card now it's only decent.
Well he's a 3/3 with a decent ability, who can alse be an uncounterable earthquake. Ponza might not use him for a finisher, but he could be a perfect board sweeper.
Interestingly enough, while Arashi isn't harmed by her own ability, jiwari is... weird.
Also, while i trust that he's a 3/3, 5/5 appears two times in the orb, so why did he think the orb didnt confirm that?

Allow me to remind you that Jiwari isn't in play when he deals the damage to each creature without flying (That only happens when you discard him and use his Channel ablility).
IMO Jiwary will be a lot than Arashi better even as a 3/3 and even with his ability at XRRR. It's just that much more relevant.
Two great names, by the way. Climatic and evocative, not lame as "Measure of Wickedness" (argh).
Umm i meant if you had One jiwari in play and channeled another in hand......
And yes flying would make sense, though that would be out of flavor for red.......

So we lost a perfect earthquake. XRRR = 5cc->2damage and 6CC->3damage, which cant' damage flyer and player and prevent them regenerate as mentioned above.
And we lost a decent-construct perfect-limited creature. 5/5 is almost unflamable. but 3/3, alas.

it was too good to be true :crying:... well hopefully they will make one utterly broken channel card that just happens too be a common...that would make my day
CRAP!!!! This set might be the new prophecy. DAMN YOU RND!!!! DAMN YOU ALL TO THE 9TH CIRCLE OF HELL!!!!!Atleast Jiwari is more playable than Latulla:slant::weird4:...
BTW-R_E. Are you shure Jiwari doesn't have flying? If he does he is good.
