169????
I'm quite amazed that noone saw that ... 169 cards
I thought there are 155 cards. One this card is EXTREMELY worthless, besides the number is off, I will say this is definetely fake.
Well, you have a good point there.
Let me put it this way: The info I have received from this source is sometimes a bit, well, jumbled. Accurate, yes; neatly organized, no. I would not discount the whole card based on the collector number - but that's just me.
And there actually are 165 cards, so you are equally wrong :smile2: But I do understand your skepticism. We will just have to see.
Why would you possibly play such a card? That is completely worthless. Shrapnel Blast is MUCH better. It must be dealing at least 2 damage per mountain to be playable. I don't think I'm gonna like this sweep thing.
Like other Sweep cards, this wouldnt be playable in the early game at all... This would be a great way around a late game creature stalemate though.
1) - No Scan
2) - # - I mean, 169?
3) - Sweep on THIS? Sweep appears 4 times! Certainly not on this would it be wasted
4) - It fits into the Orb, but so what, anyone can dredge the Orb and make a card out of the words they put in and got out.
5) - Some one got an ENTIRE pre-con? Ok, whats its name, how many forests, how many plains, how many creatures, other spells? If you want to hold back info, fine, but at least tell us #'s.
-tinker
p.s. could be real, but not likely...
He didn't just give us 6 cards, nor did he just get a Pre-Con..he got 2, the second one in Portuguese..and he also showed us 8 cards from that one. Keep in mind that a Saviors pre-con won't have a ton of different Saviors cards..it will also have cards from Champions and Betrayers...who knows what the exact count of different cards is.
And it's obviously ont 169, it's just a typo.
Who cares if there is no scan, at this point, he shouldn't HAVE to give scans..but I"m sure he will eventually. I'm surprised that he even gave this up, he'd told me that he didn't want to give out any more info until next weekend, so that WotC could preview their cards..guess he somewhat changed his mind.
While at local card store for a draft tonight, a guy who often plays in there and also happens to work for a printing company where they print magic cards mentioned a new mechanic called, I believe, "sweep" where you return lands to your hand to improve an effect. For example, the one he mentioned was a white card where you return X lands to your hand to give target creature +X/+X until end of turn. (may have been situational, but he couldn't remember) Anyways, I can't post scans or anything, because I didn't actually get to see any cards, but this is someone I trust, and who I would not expect to make this kind of thing up.
From the first post of the SOK: New Mechanic thread.
Either we now know where the card was fabricated from, or we now know that it is a real card.
Why this card is probably fake:
1) - No Scan
2) - # - I mean, 169?
3) - Sweep on THIS? Sweep appears 4 times! Certainly not on this would it be wasted
4) - It fits into the Orb, but so what, anyone can dredge the Orb and make a card out of the words they put in and got out.
5) - Some one got an ENTIRE pre-con? Ok, whats its name, how many forests, how many plains, how many creatures, other spells? If you want to hold back info, fine, but at least tell us #'s.
2) I just got word that he/she made a typo when sending me the info. It is, of course, 165.
I'm posting this mostly for the sake of thoroughness...doubt it'll change anyone's mind.
3) "Scry" was just about as bad.
4) This could apply to any card.
5) You, sir, are demanding. Perhaps you would be more satisfied if you waited until the prerelease
Why...would Wizards make Sweep a keyword? Is there something wrong with "As an additional cost to play ~, return X plains you control to your hand. Target creature gets +x/+x until e.o.t." I mean....why?
Well, we done have the abilities flier which pretty much describes sweep the way it's used here.
Also, these people don't have to tell you anything. You really shouldn't be a jackass about it when they decide to give some information. Would more info be nice? SUre. but htat's their perogative.
If it matters to anyone, this is from the guy who gave the Portuguese scans.
I must say Cube Drafting is Fun. Since its mostly the only drafting i do.
Attack step ok, oh wait i would like to cryptic command. im sorry its too late to do that.

I agree Jarsyl, and I for one appreciate the efforts our source has gone to, to get the ball rolling this spoiler season *Thank you Source!!!*
:grin2: We're happy to recieve any info you're willing to share, and if I could make a request, I'd love to know a little more about Yuki-Onna if you'd be willing to share, or anything else for that matter, cheers! :grin2:
Why...would Wizards make Sweep a keyword? Is there something wrong with "As an additional cost to play ~, return X plains you control to your hand. Target creature gets +x/+x until e.o.t." I mean....why?
They made Channel a keyword, and it in itself is just as relevent as a keyword (much like Threshold). Though at only 4 cards it, which isnt even enough to give one card to each color, its a pretty stupid use of a keyword.
Consider the patrons from Betrayers. Sure, that was a 5-card cycle with its own keyword, but the ability was so unique and had a "coolness" factor to it that needed its own keyword.
Even in a small expansion there's never been a keyword so insignificant and on so few cards. After thinking it over, I must come to the conclusion that this only has about 3/10 on the credibility scale (and that's generous).
As for the word "Sweep" mentioned in the orb it is most likely one of three things:
1.) A cycle of cards with "Sweep" in their name limited to one color. (most likely)
2.) A very complicated card with "Sweep" in it's name that mentions itself in its own text 3 times.
3.) Two cards either of the same color or opposing colors that are parallel to each other in some way (like Rend Flesh and Rend Spirit), but also mention themselves by name in their text.
One more thing, maybe the most important of all...if Epic and Channel are both keywords in this set, why would there by a third? Wizards would be breaking with tradition if it gave more than two keywords to a small expansion.

IMO it's more likely that Epic won't be a keyword, but rather will be in the cards' titles, than it is that sweep won't be a keyword.

This is all conjecture - no inside info here
Doesn't it seem rather odd to have 12 cards with Epic in their names? Even if there are 6 that mention themselves by name, it still makes no sense to have a keyword appear on only 4 cards that don't form a structured cycle like offering did (they can't: theres only 4 of them, not 5).
Why...would Wizards make Sweep a keyword? Is there something wrong with "As an additional cost to play ~, return X plains you control to your hand. Target creature gets +x/+x until e.o.t." I mean....why?
That way they can re-use it easily. It's not as strongly tied to Kamigawa as other mechanics are (Bushido, Ninjutsu). If it works out well in this set, I would expect them to keep it in mind for use in a later small set.
As for the source, I understand that he wants to hold back info - I've had sources do that all the time! But if you're doing it to please yourself and get more of a kick out of "knowing what others don't", be careful, it'l come back and bite you in the butt. All of a sudden a big leak will spoil most or all of the set, and you'll be left holding your precious inside info, which is suddenly known to everyone, and you get credit for nothin'. Seen it happen before!
As for the card, what a piece! For 2 mana, you want creature pump to be at least +4/+4. Monsterous Growth is generally unplayable. So in other words, you have to return AT LEAST 4 plains to your hand when you play this in order to make it worth your 2 mana. That means that you want to win when you play this... and generally won't be able to do so until the late game. Also, if you have so many plains in play, why not play with something more powerful and higher mana cost.
That said, it could be used with Armageddon (in a crappy casual deck) to save your lands. It also has synergy with cards that give you a boost for having a full hand in this set. And last and probably least, you can save a land from Stone Rain. :slant:
What does this mean? Since the information given by Azerbaijan shows "Sweep" being a keyword that has text stating the plural form of the name of the basic land twice. That means there can't be 4 cards with the keyword "Sweep" if there are only 7 plural names of basic lands- there would have to be 8. This shows a HUGE inconsistency on Azerbaijan's part.

Dude, have you even seen the scans of the official documents from Wizards that came in the precon? Sweep ain't fake, not even by a long shot.
Give up on this one disbelievers, your efforts will go on unwarranted.
How about, instead of trying to convince us out of something we know is true, you could help the effort with speculation on what the other sweep spells may do? No offence to anyone of course.
meh, interesting finishing move, or if you manage to get out around 19 plains out in a few turns, then an unblocked 1/1 can turn into instant death, so that is always a little bit of interesting fun
slow to get good, but by the time it does, a mere 1/1 can kill your opponet, so WW decks (maybe even W/R goblins.) will enjoy this card.
the fact that you have to wait for it to be good is a pretty big drawback.

Alpha Strike... jeez. Try something like Bonesplitter, for a cheaper, easier, more versatile, and much less dependant on huge chunks of land dependant win condition. Sheesh!

I never said "Sweep" was fake. I said "Sweep" as a keyword was fake. Either that or the orb isn't working right. Why would there be an inconsistency in text for a keyword?
Yeah, you have to wonder if it's worded as '... as an additional cost to play{this}, you may return X plains you control to owner's hand...'
It would bite *hard* versus counterspells if it was I'd say...
Perhaps it wouldn't be wrong to expect another spell that lets you put all land in your hand into play? Tapped? ... although this does have alot of synergy with cards like Soramaro, Masumaro, Kiyomaro, Kagemaro etc... Hmmmmm

If the text Azerbaijan gave for Plow through Reito was consistent with the orb I wouldn't be nearly as skeptical, after all there is the slim chance that WotC is changing the way they make keywords. Either that or its going to be a cross-over ability like double strike.

I don't deny that the info we're getting has orb issues. The Arashi card has Arashi 4 times, the orb 3. But the scan looks real. Shrug, it's not like we haven't had issues with the orb before. So maybe it should be swamps = 2? Who knows. We don't really have a lot to work with. Also, I note that lands=2. Maybe there's a sweep that works with any land? (Yes, I'm speculating wildly)

I'd also like to point out that we have no idea what Kiyomaro's cost is. If it's low enough to play in WW, then this is a double-whammy.
Finally, Loam Dweller is a particularly good fit for a Sweep deck, it looks like.
