Hey, I'm at the card shop right now and they have this magazine with an ad in it for Saviors. It doesn't say much but it does name 2 of the mechanics for SOK as 'epic' and 'wisdom' I searched the forums for this and didn't see it anywhere so thought I'd post it. Let me know
My source is the Retailers Guide to Anime, #10 Q2. I'll attach a scan in a second.
Earlier Ranma suggested that the saviors are legendary heroes that come back in play flipped after they go to the graveyard.
Seems like a possibility to me
'Epic' seems to be an unusual name for a mechanic. To me, an epic is a long and narrative poem or story, like Beowulf of even Star Wars. How can this translate to a mechanic?

Epic can also mean heroic or larger-than-life. How that translates into a mechanic? No clue...
Wisdom is shinen, guys. The common kanji combination that is shinen means 'thought'. However, there is also a Buddhist term named shinen, and it refers to a flaming lamp.
Like the expansion symbol.
Also, the lamp is the Buddhist symbol for Wisdom.
Put all together, I think it's safe to say that shinen is this Wisdom mechanic.
I don't really think it's "safe" to say that Shinen is anything, let alone a brand new word which we're not even really sure is a mechanic.
The fact is, we don't really know anything other than a couple of words.
While "wisdom" does make sense as being related to hand size, we're still only speculating that hand size is going to play a major role in the set. Remember, we only have 1 card from the set, not a whole bunch that deal with hand size.
All we can really say "safely" is that: there is one card in Saviors of Kamigawa that deals with hand size, and it doesn't say "Shinen" or "Wisdom".
While that's true, I think it's also safe to say that wisdom might not be a keyword, but just a plain mechanic where how much you know affects what you play. Cards in your hand can be counted as knowledge, e.g. Thirst for Knowledge. So we can speculate that Oppressed Will does have the wisdom mechanic.

......WTF????....... I don't even know what kind of warning you deserve for this....
I would have to agree with Oppressed Will being a "wisdom" card. Sort of like how they advertised Gating and Domain as abilities for Invasion, but they weren't actually keyworded.

Damn, that's what I was gonna say.
As for posting the scans, there's a little "Insert Image" button above when you type a new post. That's all I know.
What we're doing here is akin to taking the text of Moby Dick, locating specific words therein, rearranging them to create a passage from Fight Club, and concluding from this evidence that Tyler Durden is based on Ahab.
I don't know if "wisdom" is going to be keyworded or not, but I don't think "shinen" is wisdom. The Lotus Noir info listen them both separately.

- a mechnic about "wisdom" which counts cards in hand
- Shinen is a mechanic for creatures, instants, and sorceries which cross the boundaries of spirit world and material world

According to the advertisement the 'Epic' mechanic is supposed to have some of the 'most powerful cards' ever, I hope this isn't some kind of over-compensation for the lowered power-level of Champions.....

Thanks to Olveron for the awesome banner and Nan for the Avatar!!
Remeber that being powerful doesn't necessarily mean power level. The myojins arguably had some of the most poweful effects in the game (drawing like 14+ cards for example), but because of their ridiculous cost their power level was low. Power and power level are drastically different. Powerful= darksteel collosus. High Power-Level= Wild Mongrel.

While that is true... sometimes they overlap :grin2: I.E. Witness, high power effect, high power level.

Now to me Epic and Wisdom will not be mechaniacs because they just do not seem like mechanics. A creature called Epic? To me it probably means the wording is like this:
A new set with "Epic" creatures. These are some of the most powerful ever!"
I think they are using it more as an adjective than a card describtion but we will have to wait to see the official wording.
Perhpas 'Epic' means, pure speculation, a legendary spell that you may have only one of in your deck, I wondered why champions and Betrayers didn't feature any legendary sorceries or instants, as this is the legends block, perhaps 'epic' is a cute way of intentionally prerestricting a high power cycle of abilities...

Legendary Sorcery - Arcane
Epic (You may have only one copy of this spell in you deck) - or - (You may play only one copy of this spell this game.)
Do some big destructive stuff to the game, gain heaps of life and draw some cards.
...
But you're quite right, it does just sound like a descriptive term, rather than a mechanic based one... I guess we'll be able to deduct more when we see the scans
I had trouble uploading the scan so I forwarded the e-mail to Hunter who is going to try to post it here. Thank you for your patence citizen....
the text of the ad is
'Epic Spells Sales

So order wisely and enjoy sales of epic proportions.'
see, even down to the dumb slogans they threw in there.
lol! The wizos always have lame marketing slogans. Sounds like epic might be an adjective, but the parenthesis make me think that is indeed a newq mechanic. No clue as to what it would be though...

Now that you've posted the text about "epic", it also bears strong resemblance to another part of the Lotus Noir information from a month ago:

Among the legendary creatures will be two well-known spirits from Japanese folklore. The first is Yuki-Onna, the Snow Queen, a red creature who seduces the unwary with the cold grace of her beauty before stealing their warmth and their life. The second is Kirin, a white half-stag and half-dragon, good omen and enemy of evil. These two creatures are unique in the history of Magic.

Saviors will also include five powerful legendary Spirits, one for each color - the spirits of glorious heros who were so powerful in life that they became kami, with considerable influence in both the material and the spirit world.
Who knows if "epic" will be a mechanic, or just a nickname for a theme or cycle of cards. The five powerful legendary "spirit heroes" do sound like they could be an "epic" cycle. Also, "these creatures are unique in the history of Magic" sounds kind of epic. One of these Lotus Noir hints likely refered to "epic".

Epic sounds like some sort of legendary enchantment, or enchant world.
That's great news dude, can't wait to see the scans, it's been quite a productive day on the preview front for Saviors, great find by the way...
Also 'Epic' is completely new to me. It doesn't sound like a named mechanic. Maybe part of name of a cycle of cards
