"Barbs" seems to indicate that it's an enchantment, or some type of permanent. Typically it would probably be named as "blast" or something rather than a one shot effect. If it were one-shot, at least I reckon it would be called "Aura Barb"
Why do u guy think that Heroes demise is so bad. For 2 mana you kill a legend, and it will probably be a pretty high cmc creature being a legend and all, and if its even just a little guy like sensie golden tail or something, than its still creature kill for 2 mana. IN this block every deck will have at least one legend in it. And most will have multiples, even control decks. So this card WILL be maindeck material. At least as a 2 or 3 of.
i don't really have a problem with the card itself.
it's a decent effect at a decent price, especially given many of the playable creatures in this block are legends.
i just have a problem with the fact that it's RARE.

It's not like this set is somehow devoid of removal... we already have 3-4 quality removal spells (Distress being counted as a removal spell). Not to mention playing legends now kills them... This card is very limited as it is, but add in the fact that there are better removal spells within the same block and even more so in standard... It just makes this card suck all the more. Between Throat Slitter and Rend Flesh, the only creature you can't kill is Hirobi... but you should have something that targets, regardless, so he shouldn't be an issue. (OK... and Kokuso... but if you're playing Black, you're probably already playing him)
In limited, I can see MAYBE maindecking this (after all, people maindeck both Rends despite their possibly limited potential), but it's relegated to the SB everywhere else... and even then, I'm not so sure.
Red wins again. Why do they get enchantment hate and black is left on the sidelines AGAIN?
Well, at least they didn't steal rituals, pinging, and creature theft.
Seriously, whenever they decided to nerf blue their answer was to beef up red? Come again? Black loses Forsaken Wastes and Red gets Sulfuric Vortex? Sheesh.
Well, at least they didn't steal the Planar Void ability.
I do not get why you were all saying Mana Barbs was going to hurt the show of honden decks. So long as the honden player is above 10 life they will just get it all back. And it's a better card to go against then the white sorcery which just destroys the enchantments. In a match I would love to see them waste slots on this card for a match up against a deck like hondens even if I'm using hondens that day.
Hero's Demise:banghead: I can't believe this is a rare.
Aura Barbs, not to bad with all the enchantments that seem to be flying around in Type II but it doesn't seem like it could see play, at least not right now with Mirrodin Block still in Type II.
Arkham, the 1920's. Investigators battle horrors from beyond time and space, risking life and sanity while conspiracies of cultists and malign servitors seek gateways for their outer gods to return...
Soon, the stars will be right! Great Cthulhu shall rise!
Neither of thos cards are bad, Aura Barbs can be a sideboard card against the increasingly popular shrine deck, if only enchantress was still played. As for the hero's demise, it would have been nicer if it wasn't rare, but its not bad, rend flesh is still better though, and its common.
Well if enchantress ever becomes good again which I suppose is possible Aura Barbs will be excellent. Hero's grasp is a great way to prevent there from ever be a competative Type2 or Block Constructed Legend deck.
Aura Barbs could be rough on WW. Also, since when does Red have mass Enchantment destruction? It could destroy several enchantments in one shot (particularly WW). Usually when red has something even remotely like this it costs 8cc or more.
edit: I could see this card actually killing Indomitable Will, Vigilance, Ward of Piety, Cage of Hands, Pacifism in WW, and possibly even Lure, Ragged Veins, Oni Possession etc if on a small creature. Thats out of flavor for red if you go by WOTCs color wheel BS.
Looking at previous blocks, cards that target the main block mechanic like Hero's Demise does are consistantly powerful. Making it rare is very awkward in limited though.
BAH! IU wish it was removed from the game... that would make it more playable... but it would also smash B/G in the face along with the Hall of Mirrors of pure evil no auto bye-bye Kokusho demon thing of EVIL!!!!!111 O_o;

I've been looking at a lot of the cards and it seems that not a lot is their to stop B/G, which is my super commetitive deck... I want death to Raffinnity! (and really the only problem B/G has is agenst Big Red and Raffinnity... may-b WW... but unfortunatly theirs not meany people playing WW now...)

Demise makes me sad. Yes, it's realtively strong and relatively cheap, but it's rare....RARE! I know that WotC has to keep limited in mind when designing, pricing, and tiering cards, but this is just horrible. I play limited more than anything else, but quite frankly, if you have to move a card like this to rare just to avoid limited issues, I'd rather it just not be printed.

I play B/G and I have a good idea of how the matchups usually go.
B/g vs:
Affinity - strong. You get all the green artifact hate with the Black removal to take out Disciple (Barter, Echoing Decay), and a really beefy beatstick in Kokusho. Oh, and Death Cloud helps too.
Big Red - weak. B/G thrives on the opponent playing lots of creatures for it to kill, Big Red would rather just burn you down then drop a single Slogger or Kumano. Death Cloud is pretty useless in this matchup since you'll probably be behind.
TNN - strong. The card that obviously puts this matchup in favor of B/G is Cranial Extraction. Also, TNN scoops to a Death Cloud.
WW - 50/50. Night of Souls' Betrayal stalls out WW long enough to take control of the game. I have a very competitive WW deck, so this is the one I have the most test experience with. Auriok Champion is a pain in the rear, that's why it's good to pack those NoSB's and time your Clouds well.
U/x Control - 50/50. It often comes down to who wins the coin flip and gets to drop the first land. A well-built blue deck prepared for G/B specifically is almost an autoloss here. Keep your Extractions in the maindeck game 2; MUC only has 2 win conditions most of the time, so if you can resolve an Extraction on one of them, you have control.
Well... thanx... that makes sence... Ravenger (depending if they use Ornos or Blinks) varys...and on KCI... wow... those Myr are fast... and my friend ALWAYS waights so he can blow the cube with KCI and an extra arti STILL in play... but he knows my tricks... appriciate the thought... but man Big Red is a *****... that's my only complaint... it's like the deck kryptonight... any who (each deck has a strong point and a weak point... I just want to stomp Raffinnity to dust, and I've been playing B/G for well before it was an archetype or ever netdecked) any who, again thanx!

Each artifact deals 2 damage to its controler. Then each equipped artifact deals 2 damage to the creature it equips.
That would be more useful, since the enchantment block was long ago and Kamigawa suffers a lot from the most recent artifact block.
