It kinda annoys me that they're hosing so much the block's themes... there's the 1/1 for B that sacs to destroy a ninja; there are so many white cards that hoses soulshift; there's Hisoka's Defiance and now this. Maybe soulshift, arcane, and splice were deemed on the powerful side on playtesting, but I can't really see why they have to hose ninjutsu as of yet really.
In block, I can see this card being very productive, since I'm assuming that block will have some kind of spiritcraft-based deck. Outside of block, yes- this is garbage.
Still, it's a common counter in a standard with multiple solid counters, so this actually having an ability of some use is almost surprising.
Now it is an interesting card. Hose splice (unless they have a ton of mana to hard cast all the spliced cards in responce). Still costs too much to be played.

Instant (C)
Counter target spell. That spell's controller reveals his or her hand then discards each card with the same name as a card spliced onto that spell.
nothing like more crappy countermagic.
all mono really needed from this set was one more decent counterspell and a creature (kira, great glass spinner wins that title), but they went and printed this monsterous piece of crap instead. though i guess it's a good sb card for all those dampen thought archetypes out there... gg dampen thought... bah.
This card is being severely underrated in its potential applications. It's clearly not a card that's good against everything, but it's ridiculous in Limited against decks U/W or U/R Splice. Not only do they not get to search for another Arcane Spell, kill a creature, prevent all damage, etc, they lose all those splice cards. The same thing might be true in constructed, depending on how the format shapes up.

Hmmm. There are worse things than this, now. It's useless in Extended and Legacy and Vintage, but it might see a little use in Standard if Splice decks start springing up...and, as already stated by a hundred people, it's definitely better in Limited. Would I draft it, though...meh. Maybe as a sideboard card.

I think it's because Splice is very reminiscent of Buyback, which...if you were playing Magic back then and/or recall...was INCREDIBLY strong. With more splice spells comes the need to have some way to keep them balanced and/or slow them down. And especially in Limited, Soulshift makes your creature pool way way bigger than it is.

hrm does this point to a cycle that mirrors the quash cycle but weakens the effect and broadens the targeting?interesting how this spell bears no resemblance to quash and isn't it strange how someone can read a card many times and never read it properly?

Suddenly, your creatures of:
Wicked Akuba
Thief of Hope
Gibbering Kami
Scuttling Death
become...
Wicked Akuba x4
Thief of Hope x3
Gibbering Kami x2
Scuttling Death
That's ten creatures out of four. And you're complaining that there are soulshift hosers?
