A source I've dealt with once before (I think he gave a few cards for Judgment) spoke to me on AIM tonight and let me know about the black genju. He was able to read part of the spoiler (damn... why can't I get my hands on that thing?) and he saw a few cards we already know, plus the black genju. I forgot to ask him what it was called, although I doubt he bothered to remember that part. He said that it's a 2/2 shade (black mana pumps it +1/+1). If that's right, which I think it is (some collateral information comes into play here), then that would make the card:
Genju of the __?__ -
Enchant Swamp (U)
: Enchanted Swamp becomes a 2/2 black Spirit creature with ":symb: : This creature gets +1/+1 until end of turn" until end of turn. It's still a land.
When enchanted Swamp is put into a graveyard, you may return Genju of the __?__ from your graveyard to your hand.
It looks a bit complicated, maybe that's not the right wording. Anyway, that appears to be the jist of the black Genju.
Not too shabby, sort of reminds me of Chimeric Staff thats just a bit picky about wanting black mana pumped into it. This is probably better than the artifact because of the recur ability and it easier to play wiith its P/T in combat.
Clearly not as powerful as the red and green Genjus in the early part of the game. Not what I expected at all. I guess Wicked Akuba/Black Genju could be a decent start to building a black weenie deck.
Nice, I like it. Most cards with the shade ability in recent sets have some drawback (Grimclaw Bat) or is overcosted (Cursed Ronin). I would definitely throw this into my Reanimation deck I'm planning to build
I like the other one's better, this one's okay though, it's very mana intensive, though might just be good in limited, I hope the white one's better since it's green's ally (possible reason why the red one is so good), hopefully a 3/4 vigilant or first striker.
I think with all these powerful enchantments appearing in BoK (all the Genju are pretty buff imo) discard will have to be reintroduced to the control pattern, especially for MBC - how else are we going to get rid of these pesky enchantments once they hit play? Also, Naturalize will see a lot more maindeck action.

this is really interesting.. its usable in both black weene agro and mbc.. I see this getting quite a lot of play.. But in power level the red one is way better

Genju- Well, I'm glad it's better than Spawning Pit. While I would have preferred a fear creature, a shade like creature isn't bad. It may be playable in some new MBC deck (which still needs a lot more support in order to work correctly) and in limited...
Not to bad, but it takes 2 to activate so that means you won't be able to start pumping it up until turn 3 at least. It really won't be all that good early game, but it should shine mid to late game.
If the Genju sees play you can beat that enchantment removal will start to be played heavily. LD won't have much affect becasue you still can get the Genju back from the graveyard.
AWESOME!!!!! way better than i expected and even hoped for!!!
im glad to see they didnt cheap out and go for something common and plain like fear:p ill definately use this card in at least 2 of my black decks.
This is better than Nantuko Shade for my MonoBlack Control in Vintage!
Remember that the Genju has an activation cost to turn it into a creature. That is mana that you can't use for the pump ability. The Nantuko Shade will always be able to pump itself up more because of the that. Give me Nantuko Shade anyday.
Also in Vintage their is Wasteland and Stripmine which is instant speed LD so if your opponent has either in play you will never get the Genju onto the land.

man... all they need to do now is bring back coffers... This is an intresting card I thinks, as all of the 'shade' creatures out right now aren't worth playing... it will be amusing to see how much or how little this card impacts the game... :/

So if this gets killed I will lose a swamp but keep my Enchantment? And if my Enchantment gets killed I will get to keep the swamp. So either way I have card disadvantage. It also costs 3 each time for a 2/2 creature (2 and the swamp itself you cannot use anymore...) - this makes it a «darksteel brute» ... and we all know how many of those were being played in tournaments. Ok you can pump it - but shouldn't you be using mana on something else? Evasion...like fear, aah

And the glass is half empty. How is this different to losing a normal creature? Let's say your opponent Rend Spirits it after you attack. The swamp dies, and the enchantment returns. Total loss: 1 card. Total loss for opponent: 1 card. Where's the disadvantage? Asside from this fact, it's not going to die every time it is played.
All of these cards look veeery good , you can always turn it to a creature on opponents end of turn.
doesn't work. "until end of turn" effects last until the cleanup step (which no-one gets priority to play abilities (unless something triggeres, but then it is repeated again until it finally "cleans up")). This is very different from "at end of turn" triggers which only have one opportunity to happen each turn and you also get priority to do stuff after that moment allowing for "carry over" into the next turn.

it's not disadvantage if they used one card to kill one of yours (this is the same advantage ratio as normal creature-card deaths). and this is much preferable to normal local enchantments that give your opponent an easy 2 for 1 opportunity (true card advantage).
my review, it's sub-par compared to the others, it's animating ability has a built in tension against the pumping. The others are much better early and mid game. The only place this could be better is very late game in some sort of Mono-Black Control deck.
I think they gave this less power and made it more mana intensive cause otherwise it would be uber broken with death cloud. As it is, it is an automatic 2 damage a turn after a death cloud, since you will always be left with 3 mana, unless you used a bop. Seems like a definite inclusion to the death cloud decks.
