And Wizards continues the marches of the card fixes. The intent of this block seems to be fading for me from 'lets tell a cool story set in Japanese context' to 'lets take all the old, broken cards, attach them to a creature, and nerf them but make them recur.' I guess I don't mind TOO much, but aside from ninjas, this set doesn't seem to introduce anything new to me - just fixed versions of previously powerful or important cards.
That aside, it seems like a neat card. It feels like it should be able to slide into any spiritcraft deck pretty easily, allowing a few utility enchantments to go in there for tutoring.
HA ! I CALLED IT!
I've had a GW enchantment deck for a few weeks now and I CALLED THAT BOK WOULD HAVE LOTS ON ENCHANTMENTS!
AHHAHA
*does several elaborate dances*
Anyways, this one isn't the best, but i'm sure there will be more
So far, there's only one known creature enchantment in BoK, and there are about a dozen in Champions. How good this will be depends on the quantity and quality of these enchantments.

"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing."
Tallowisp notably can pick up Cage of Hands and Mystic Restraints, as well as Indomitable Will, which makes him a very solid guy with cheap booty (1/3 for 2 is a fine little guy in this block with all the 2/1s) that fits very, very well into Limited. He powers Spiritcraft too, and generally makes a slowish white Limited deck quite happy.
It's weird, because if stuff from 8th like Spirit Link and Pacifism were available for block constructed, Tallowisp might actually be a possible utility for White/whatever color Spiritcraft decks. Those cards aren't here though (no Spirit Link in Spirit block is somewhat weird, though not considering the flavor of the Kami), and with a lack of good "beatdown" enchantments Tallowisp is left hanging.
Not likely to make the cut in any constructed format, but an interesting and fun card to play around with in more wide-open casual formats. Rancor is happy, as are Control Magic, Armadillo Cloak, Spirit Link, Curiosity, and a lot of other cards that see play in casual/group.
EDIT: If there were a Hermetic Study enchantment in this block (Yamabushi's Gift or something...could happen) this guy might be nuts in the right Limited situation.
Hehe. Maybe they will reprint Rancor since they love bringing things back from the graveyard so much. Heck maybe they'll print a gold card and we can have Armadillo Cloak.
like it.. kinda cheap for an U with rather decent p/w balance and a good ability.. seems that wizards learned from horizon seed

"It is just that we should be grateful, not only to those with whose views we may agree, but also to those who have expressed more superficial views; for these also contributed something, by developing before us the powers of thought." ~Aristotle
I'm not sure how good this really is in limited, a lot of the enchantments rely on their instant speed to be useful, and showing your opponent that you have them in hand hurts a lot.
But, you can use it to grab "insta-enchants" during combat -- For instance, when you play a Candle's Glow or Kodama's Might. That's my favorite part of the card...
Cmon! This card is fun!...regardless of how everyone feels about mark gottlieb, this card + blinking spirit is a pretty decent idea. Not every card previewed is made for play in tournaments. I for one, can't wait to use this card in some form of crazy casual deck lol.
I like the card a lot. It's not powerful, it's not splashy, but it's cool in a casual constructed kind of way and has the possibility to win a limited game or two. There are always those times where you say "man, I could win this game if I just had a cage of hands." Which, incidentally, is going to be drafted that much higher with Tallowisp in the environment.
Anyhow, I think a Tallowisp/Mark of the Oni/Reito Lantern B/W control deck is definitely in order... *sigh*... as if I didn't have enough B/W control decks already. Why is it that the most fun janky combo decks always turn out B/W or U/R? Stupid enemy colors always making me want to combine them. It's a conspiracy I tell you!
This card is not so bad i guess. I mean, as with many cards of kamigawa it's not a power house, just another usable limited card. but you better have enchant creatures is all i can say lol Although, a 1/3 for 2 isn't bad. plus if you can grab the green +1/+1 trample, regen from CoK? not so bad i guess.
I mean, in a general sense i've found kamigawa to be, frankly kinda dull.. i hope theres some great cards on the way...
Why should it have defender? You want the card to be worse? That doesn't even make sense from a flavor point of view. It lives on a candle in the corner of someone's (Autumn-Tail's) study. What could it possibly be "defending"? Of course, I guess that makes more sense than wishing for it to search for any enchantment, because then it would be a 1/1 rare for 7 mana and everyone would say, "Ah, maaaan. Why couldn't they have printed a worthwhile card instead of this overcosted crap rare that'll never see play anywhere because it costs too much?"
I like this card a lot, although I admit that i wish the trigger were something besides arcane and spirits. It just seems way too narrow to ever see play outside the block, and thus will be eternally consigned to strictly limited play. Kind of a shame, really.
What?! Look at the initial post; he is dead. Deceased. Kaputt. Indefinitely horizontal. In mafia games, you see, people are occasionally "killed off," and when that sad event occurs, he or she is no longer allowed to post, on account of rigor mortis and what-have-you.
'Welcome to Mafia Salvation', it said, 'Population: 3,660.' And someone, they never figured out who, had painted on the sign in red letters: '1,831 to lynch.'
The more that I look at this card the more that I start to like it. I really think that a good ug deck could be made. I don't know if it would be tournament worthy but it would definitely be good. The one card that could stop anything from happening in block is the one white 2W arcane sorcery that destroys all enchantments. I forgot it's name sorry.

well, in mirrodin there's a similar mana-p/t creature...
leonin den-guard, it's more potent in an equipment heavy environment..
but we all know what happen to it...
useful in limited, and that's it...
Actually I do see this being part of a pretty good block deck - though I don't know all the cards yet - this seems to be costed perfectly. You can bring it out early and use it right from the beginning...not another boring legend for a ridiculous amount of mana.
What bothers me here is that wizards said they wanted to create an environment where they didn't stuff the deck down the players throat but left many possibilities for us to explore...ok so we have splice.dec and maybe some sprit.dec...*nods off*

pretty good with pacfisim
Seems wizards is constantly pushing creature-echants, but i don't see why this will be better than any of the others.

Not too many enchant creatures in CHK though, maybe there will be more in BOK.
