I like the cards, the shuko's just another cheap okay piece of equipment nothing to get over excited about after mirrodin block's better equipment. Kannushi is nice though a good potential 1 drop for a block white weenie deck, in a white weenie splash black or red for removal and creatures(IE. red hearth kami/frostling, black nezumi cuthroat etc.) it potential becomes a removal proof 1 drop with it's only draw back being the inability to use white spells to protect or pump it. The nezumi is also a nice 1 drop and will be used in any casual(or "gasp" constructed) rat theme decks as a nice cheap rat. Also will see play in limited especially if the ninjas turn out to be any good.
Well. I don't like them much, the cleric seems to be a nice card for limited, as it could be a good bloker, and the ninja can also be nice, but thats about it, the equipment should have been +0/+2 for it to be close to decent, oh well.
My blood started racing when I saw "Empty-Shrine Kannushi" in the title. The first thing that came to mind was 'wow, maybe this is like metallic sliver!' I was just hoping and praying for something like:
It wouldn't have any abilities, the idea being that the kami lending it power has abandoned it long ago. All it would do is serve to boost the other shrines. THAT would have been amazing....
Anyways, all I've really got other than that is some seconds on previous ideas:
- Kannushi can be pretty beastly in a Shrine deck; otherwise, he doesn't seem all that great but may be useful next block
- Shadow-Watcher's usefulness is going to be determined by how many ninja's get printed and how many make it into top or widespread constructed decks
- Shuko SHOULD be common. Yeah, artifacts should be uncommon as a general rule, but most equipment isn't really an artifact - it's trash cranked out at a smithy for chump change. That last statement holds tenfold for underpowered equipment like Shuko, which equates to not much more than thin armor.
i think Empty Shrine is pretty cool. very cheap considering his ability. Eqiup that little bugger with a Sword of Fire/Ice or Light/Shadow and he could become a very nice little pain in thier sides. also, i know a few people running Zubera or Shrine decks that this card will fit nicely into. may not win Pro Tours, but undercosted considering his interactions with other cards.
the equipment is pretty worthless in my opinion.
the ninja killer will probly see hot sideboard action if ninjas take off. people will think twice before popping ninjitsu if he's out.
i think the equipment is being underrated. we're so used to the play styles and card valuations of onslaught and mirrodin that it's hard to really see kamigawa block constructed and kamigawa limited for what it is. the main focus is on two drops, a lot of the damage being dealt is one at a time, and one of the most dangerous things for a creature to have is somehow getting one more toughness than all the other two-drops. i think the equipment is an excellent one-drop, and the free re-usability will prove to be quite useful for keeping a couple more beatsticks on the table (which wins games in this environment).

Some people seem to think the Empty-Shrine Kannushi will count as a Shrine for things like the Honden of Infinite Rage. Sorry to disappoint you, but it won't. Its name contains the word Shrine, but it's not of type Shrine.
You're a little off base. People (myself included) are saying he'd go great in a Shrine deck. The implication is not that he is a shrine himself but that since shrine decks are 3-5 colors, that means he would have protection from 3-5 colors.
the Empty-Shrine seems ok and playable in the current standard, while the black one seems unfair for the Ninja deck/s builders but will see play in block constructed (mostly as a SB) but Shuko, i don't think it will see much play (Bonesplitter is still better) but may see play in draft (CoK + BoK /+ SoK) that is
Damnit. I was already seeing great use in a causal deck I'm building for the Shuko. I need something cheap and efficient to pump my 1 toughness guys up. I needed that +0/+1. The mini-bonesplitter is crap. At best it only helps a little in limited. The only deck that would concieveably run this would be Ravaffinity, which doesn't need more help, and I doubt it's even good enough for that.

You know what I do see this thing working well with? The genju. Who wouldn't want to buff their animated land +1/+0 every turn for free! Since you're already devoting three lands to the animated critter (two to pay, third attacking), I think paying the extra mana every turn for a bonesplitter equip is too much.
Wha...wha... people said the Shuko giving +1/+0 for free is bad? *slaps people* WHASSAMATTAWITCHU!?
This shuko is exponentially better than it was before.
Also, here's a picture of what a shuko is (I knew they couldn't be defensive because I included them in my weaponry section of a presentation on ninjas I did for my computer class... don't ask...)
Too bad it doesn't give Web in addition, it seems like the kind of equipment that would give web (but then again, CHK block designers seem a lot less skilled in designing equipment, and creatures for that matter, than Mirrodin block designers are).
As it stands, I'd draft this relatively low in the third pack, but if I've got enough creatures, or if there's no good on color cards, this is a nice uncommon to find. It almost always makes the cut; as with all equipment, it's solid perminant boost. Better still, it's usually the bottom of my curve, so I can pump up 4/4s to take out 5/5s, and can generally equip to an evasive attacker, then equip to a big butt blocker. A nice bonus to any deck, I think.
i still stand by my first post, i think the equip would have been good on toughness. the power version will help speed up evaisive weenie kills though. i think either one would be good in this environment, but the power version is probably better with other blocks.

Now that is good. In this format of bears making all those first turn 1/1 being able to take them out is handy. This also good against those annoying zuberas that always seem to keep the 1/1s at bay.
Edit: I want to say the new spoiler is great it informed me of the correction.:evillol:

it's quite good actually, this would (probably) turn any weenie into a (little) force to be reckoned with...

The Shuko is like a crappy tooth of chiss-goria for affinity, I'd rather have the tooth, and that's not even played much.
Woah, buddy. You're comparing apples to giant meteors that fall out of the sky and destroy all of humanity - you just can't do it. Yeah, in affinity, tooth is just sick because it normally cost zero, can be played as an instant, and can apply at instant speed rather than the sorcery equip. Thankfully, not everyone plays affinity. In a non-affinity deck, that tooth may very well cost 3, and now which is better? Personally, I'd probably take the equipment.
The white one will be very useful, protection is almost always good, a little small for an uncommon though. The rat will be very good in some situations, ninjas are going to be a pain to get rid of with that ninja lord running around.

This guy is interesting, it has been said before that Ravnica will be an Invasion-like set, if so this guy is preparing us for that
Here, I'm already working on a cool blue/black ninja deck, and now they have a one-drop ninja hoser? What's up with that? That just means that if the ninjas end up posing a threat, those will be in every sideboard imaginable.
That one definitely needs a higher cost, even if it's a 1B 2/1.
I'm not happy with that one.
one drop mouse... could be good in a mouse deck... whereas not too many rat for 1 mana...

besides, it's a 20 turn clock... what's not to like about that...
