This is one of my favourite names in Kamigawa so far!
Card is ok, prefer Sensei Golden-tail as the same CC equivalent, but perhaps there's a good reason for this card i this set or the next.

The best Samurai deck would probably be Mono-white (Red and Black don't have much to offer versus the consistancy of monocolored), so Sensei would see play before this, if it even does.
I don't want to be a killjoy, but what non-White samurai are you going to want to play this guy so to avoid color confusion?
Yamazuki Brothers comes to mind. Also the hasty red samurai and the rat samurai. (All of which coinidently cost three mana, right after you drop this dude) Not only that, but BoK will certainly include more off color samurais. We'll just have to wait and see.
Maybe in block? But as 20bux said, all the good samurai are white in terms of playability.
What we're doing here is akin to taking the text of Moby Dick, locating specific words therein, rearranging them to create a passage from Fight Club, and concluding from this evidence that Tyler Durden is based on Ahab.
Tut tut. Get the impression they are making the samurai deck for us? I mean, this card almost forces us to play with another colour... red has some great samurai, and this allows you to skimp on the mountains, as many people have said before.
Still, a very good card, another playable 2 power 2 cost bushido dude for the samurai deck, only with a better ability than Golden-Tail.
Kinda reminds me of the chesire cat from alice in wonderland. Aside from that its quite decent no problems picking it 2nd-5th picks in draft will play if white. The ablity dosent really help decks enough. Nothing to shabby...or amazing.[/img]

I like how wizards worded it the card, very good job as far as that goes. I like it being a cat, I will problay put it in my cat deck although it does not really fit the theme of the deck. The card is interesting in block, it will make R/W samurai alot better as already said. I am also looking forward to the art.
The ability is interesting but mediocre at best. Of course it is hard to pass judgment because we don't know all of the samurai are in the set or the block (maybe there will be sliverqueen-like five-color samurai j/k).
He makes friends with the other samurai I guess... decent early, and then can hang back and call for help...I just hope there's some utility or heavy hitters worth splashing for...
better than most of the other 2 drops for a samurai deck.
the ability is neat i guess, but i wouldn't build a deck around it nor would i over-tweak my mana base because i'm playing it...
The fact alone that it lets you safely run Samurai of the pale Curtain in a multi colour deck is reason enough to play it. Nice little card, sensei is still probably a better play, but there's nothing wrong with this guy.

I love SGT! (a quick question on Bushido... if I use the Sensei's abbility to give my Blademaster Bushido 1 and turn him into a Samurai, so would that make the Blade master a Fox Samurai (Samurai) with Bushido 2?)

yeah, but for all intensive purposes, both will trigger and it will cause 2 bushido efects to go off (+2/+2).

It's a Joiner Adept but it makes your Samurai colorless (when casting)
Their color is still dictated by the mana symbols printed in the top right corner.
A similiar example is you use Fist of Suns to play an artifact spell for UBRGW. It's still a colorless artifact spell, even though you actually paid UBRGW for it.
Or if you had Mycosynth Lattice in play, and played any random spell. Not matter what mana you paid for it with, the spell is still the color dictated by the mana symbols printed on the card.
VVVV - It's a good nitpick! I got caught up in the example I forgot the other part of the lattice - it makes pretty much everything colorless or artifacts! lol

Quote from Mycosynth Lattice »
All cards that aren't in play, spells, and permanents are colorless.
For the purposes of spells or abilities referring to a certain color, all cards are colorless. However, Mycosynth Lattice does not change these cards' mana costs. It merely changes the colors of mana your lands and mana sources may produce, in effect.
In the case of Fist of Suns, the cards and spells do retain their original color.

But really, I can think of only 2 red samurai I'd play with right now, Brother's Yamakazi and the Houndmaster.
1W for a 2/1 and Bushido 1 isn't terrible, and if played with sensei golden tail or maybe candle's glow/blessed breath, pretty good.
