Honestly, sometimes the fact that it is a 1-mana black Spirit is all that matters. I had plans for a mono-Black Aggro deck from about day 2 of the Champions partial spoiler going up, and all that kept me from doing it was a lack of a creature that fit that particular definition. Sometimes, the ability is incidental to its utility in a deck. My example is that I had a deck stuffed full of Spiritcraft, but didn't have a decent 1-drop.

Some wonder why I carry 8 decks on me. The answer? I get tired of being boarded against in casual games, and 90% of the players I meet can't beat a jank deck I made to be tokens for a serious one.
Child of Thorns -
Creature - Spirit (C)
Sacrifice Child of Thorns: Target creature gets +1/+1 until end of turn.
1/1
Why does green get the shaft?

i dont think it does...ok so its the worse we have...i mean a white spore frog? but imagine this
Guy: i attack with my two savanah lions
You: i block one with my orni and one with child of thorns then sac the thorns for the orni urs die and i still have an orni....but blue might not be so good
Nitpick, unless Child of Thorns has gained first strike somehow (and Orni hasn't), one of the Savanah Lions dies, because all combat damage is put on the stack at once.
nice. i think the red one is the best out of the four we've seen, but the green one is a good combat trick and the white guy can save your ass in a jam for a turn.
The best we can hope for the blue one would be a force spike like ability. I don't want a Hapless Researcher reprint but how can they justify printing a 1/1 for with an ability when they printed Wandering Ones in Kamigawa?
I wouldn't be surprised if they made it an 0/1 like they changed the U/R bear in Apocalypse to a 1/1.
I was hoping that the green one would be Sac: put a 1/1 green ___ creature into play. That'd be pretty cool.
Wouldn't that be more or less redundant seeing as you just sacrificed a 1/1 green creature? It would make it like a penumbra, which is not really the intent of the cycle. There should at least be a potential reason to use the ability at some time other than the creature's death.
