I think these are great little commons. 1/1s with abilities for one mana are cool. And these abilities are actually fairly strong. I think this bodes well for the overall power-level of the set. Here's to another strong mid-block set like Torment!
I find it intriguing that, though this is a cycle, the names don't appear to have anything to do with each other. (especially weird that there's one "kami" card and the rest aren't) Also the black one seems a bit weaker than the red one, though I suppose it gets around worship.
The red one (mogg reprint) can deals 1 damage to ANY TARGET(including player?) and the black one just lose 1 life.
lose life and deals damage, at such a little-amount position, has no great difference IMHO?
Maybe the red one cant damage player?
Lose life is not preventable by damage-prevention effects. Yet another reason that disciple is so good. Normally the red one is better, but the black one gets around CoPs and the like.
The green one just sucks. That's annoying to me, given that green is the creature color. Yes, you get a mini-combat trick that can be repeated. How is this even comparable to the red one? It can be a very nice combat trick in limited, but the red one is good in both limited and constructed. Eh.
I'm very curious to see what the blue one gets. My suspicion is that it's actually fairly weak and combat-related, like 'target creature gains flying' or 'target creature is unblockable this turn' or some such. Something fairly weak that doesn't affect the board hugely. I'd like it to be something like a looter ability, but that doesn't fit the cycle and would be a bit too good for blue.
that would make sense in a way, though it would weaken the frostling considerably if it could not target players...
I still refuse to believe that Wizards would make such a mistake by printing Frostling. It makes me wonder if, in truth, Frostling can only hit creatures. That would make it infinitely more believeable and still be very much in flavor.
I guess I'm mighty stubborn to not believe it after r_e confirmed, but I'd be a lot more confident if he specifically confirmed the "or player" part of Frostling's text.
Spock is not portrayed correctly. If Vulcans are above petty emotions, what motivates him to join the most elite starship crew in the galaxy? I, on the other hand, have transcended the weakness of emotion and achieved a blissful lack of caring. Apathy is my strength, our strength, which prevents us from being all-to-human. In this spirit, may Meh be with you, always.
Let's put it this way, if it's a force spike, it may very well be broken. Like the red one is. If it mills for 1, it fits the set but sucks. If it mills for 3-4, it's gold(en). If it counters unless they pay 1 life... it's the black one. If it's hapless researcher, it sucks.
Green's average for green, and makes limited a lot more challenging, while white is the ultimate chump blocker... who can attack and still chump!
Black sucks the big ass. Had it been "lose 2 life", it'd be broken (how? Didn't see the black onslaught charm being played), but they could have given us a Soulshift-removal tool. "Sac: Remove target creature in a graveyard from the game". That would have been bad, but at least useful in limited.
Hopefully there's some good Soulshift 1s out there (Bear Spirit G1 Spirit. Soulshift 1 2/2... would rock!).
Edit: Oh, crap, we already have the blue one of the set... Wandering Ones.
Thanks for the info R_E...interesting cycle, the green one reminds me of Goblin Sledder. The white one of Spore Frog. Can't wait to see some more cards!

That white one is a reprint of Spore Frog, but in white instead. Not bad at all. I'll bet you that the red can't actually damage players or else that black is weak.
i'll stick to believing that Frostling is a Fanatic reprint. If R_E confirmed it, i'll put money on it.
i doubt the blue one will be a hapless researcher reprint. Researcher, don't forget, was printed in a block where your graveyard mattered a lot. Nowadays, why does blue have any reason to mill itself? It doesn't. For the blue critter, my bet's on granting unblockability or "sac: draw a card, then discard a card."

You're probabily right. The blue one could be unsummon or maybe a mana leak like ability.

pay attention to kami of twisted reflection, you'll find that "return target creature YOU CONTROL" worth 1cc...and compare to the wandering ones, i'd like to say that blue kids goes to "tap/untap","gains flying"(why not? WotC have interest in printing stupid combo..say Student of Elements) or "target unblockable ueot"( which works well with your ninjas).

Mutiltasking is the art of screwing things at once.
These arent bad. Considering them being 1 mana drops is pretty good, not to mention the abilites tacked on make them even better. I like the white one out of the other two, but thats me.
Blue, as I'm guessing, will probably be similar to the spiketails. Something like:

Why does green get the shaft?
*wonders@U's contribution*
The shaft? It does the same thing as the red, just in a less effective way. I would qualify it better than the black one.

My white weenie deck will love this.
Take the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Quiz.
What really seems out of place is the fog. Kami of False Hope can't possibly be real. I don't think they would try to set up a creature lock.
1. a non-flying Spiketail Hatchling (go force spike)
2. the already guesses Hapless Researcher reprint
3. something really weak
Wait and see...time will tell.

Hmm.. The Mogg Fanatic reprint quite rocks.
The Spore Frog reprint is probably the second best of the set (unless the blue one is undeniably awesome, but that won't happen)
The green one will be good in limited.
The black one just SUCKS. Blegh. Get the taste out of my mouth.
