Years ago, I started compling checklists for every Magic release. I aim to be extremely thorough, including variant printings and promos. I keep updating it, and I just finished with all recent sets and fully spoiled near-future releases.
You could type in the documents to keep track of your collection digitally, but these are optimized to print out nicely, to have information handy when near cards but not your computer. I aimed for nice formatting, and making efficient use of paper.
They should be particularly useful for organizing cards into 9 pocket pages, especially when you have an incomplete set from before collector numbers and/or with multiple versions.
I ended up with Word documents (.DOCX, 2007 and later) but also kept basic Excel lists for most sets.
I have Word 2007, so I went with that default, not wanting to mess with file format since precise formatting is key to these.
Older versions of Word can understand this format with a plugin. OpenOffice had problems with these .DOCX's last I checked a few years ago. However, if I have MS Word save as .DOC, and send that to OO, there aren't as many problems. I can do that if there's interest. Also, OO Calc didsn't seem to have a problem reading the Excel versions.
(If somebody wants PDF versions of something else, let me know)
Not every checklist looks the same (especially since I assembled them over a large period of time, and tweaked the format for the circumstances of each set). However, the examples above provide a pretty good approximation. These are non-editable PDFs.
* Lorwyn/Morningtide, Mirrodin/Darksteel/Fifth Dawn, Onslaught/Legions/Scourge, Planar Chaos/Future Sight, Planeshift/Apocalypse and Shadowmoor/Eventide are combined for lower pagecount overall. Time Spiral (including Timeshifted) and Invasion are separate even though for those blocks I combined the later two sets.
Added the 7 Kaladesh Block cards with slightly different printings in the 2017 Welcome Decks - these had added reminder text, removed flavor text, fixed artist credit on Terrain Elemental, and wrong collector number on Wind Drake. The 4 from Kaladesh have 2017 rather than 2016 copyright dates. For advanced players, beginner products do provide something else to collect.
Added tokens and Energy Reserve to Kaladesh checklist. Tweaked formatting of Ixalan and Rivals of Ixalan lists. Kaladesh planeswalker deck exclusives unnecessarily had 2 columns on block checklist.
Very cool. I was searching for something like this! Thank you. I would love to be able to just download the .pdf's - particularly of tempest block and mirage block. Revised as well. Doing a bit of nostalgia.
