I've released one that I've been working on for a few weeks as well. Rather than import all the cards at the beginning, it accesses the Oracle as needed. You can run it in two modes "Owned" and "Not Owned".
When in Owned mode, it will only search cards in your local database that you own. When not in owned mode, it will do the search using the Oracle. Before downloading the card details, it first checks to see if the local database already has that card downloaded. If so, it will get the local copy of the card details (image, text, etc.). If not it will download it, then save it locally for later use.
The upshot is it has access to all cards immediately. You don't need to update the card lists, either. When Zendikar is released they should automatically start showing up in your search results.
Hello. Wagic was updated today to version 0.9.1.
It now supports more than 5000 cards (which, I believe, now makes Wagic the MTG simulation against an AI opponent with the highest number of cards).
On top of that we were recently joined by a team of talented designers and developers, who gave the game a very professional look (I hope pictures are allowed, please remove them if that's not the case).
This is open source, cross platform(Windows/Linux/PSP) and we are looking for all the help we can get, do not hesitate to contact me
Hello, im very new in this forum, I just restarted playing after then years because I found Magic the Gathering from Microprose. It's an old game, and has only older cards but's very fun playing.
would it be possible to identify what platform each software is for; i'm looking for mac
I'm sorry, they formerly were identified, and probably still are if you quote the original post in a reply.
They used to have little images indicating platform - Feyd_Ruin must have pulled the same trick FirePenguinMaster did with the PSD thread and stowed the icons in Testing Grounds. Then the Testing Grounds were wiped.
I'll get some new icons and attach them to the front post good and proper.
Put together an entry and I'll add it. I don't have time to advertise software for people. They need to do the work, and then I'll be happy to maintain the listings.
the OCTGN listing is outdated, here's a suggested update:
OCTGN 2 (Online Card- and Tabletop Games Network) (Octagon) Author : "OCTGN Team" WebSites:Home, Official forums, MTGSalvation's OCTGN thread, game + set files Pricing: Free Purpose: Open-ended card game simulator, uses customizable game packs which can potentially play any type of card or board game. Major card games currently supported are: Magic: the Gathering, VS. System, Duel Masters, Dragonball Z, World of Warcraft TCG. Card search, deck creation, and game play. Can easily support single-player, two-player, or multiplayer. Can generate and construct Sealed decks, booster drafting is not "officially" available yet. Often used in online tournaments, including leagues supported by OCTGN's creators. Comment: OCTGN2 is currently in alpha development. You can view the developers blog here. Go to the IRC Chatroom for matches or help.
BoosterBuilder
Author : Douglas Copas (aka Lord Hastur)
WebSite: Author's homepageDownload locationThread
Pricing: Free as in beer.
Purpose: App parses user's MTGO collection. The user can then select sets to create boosters from at random. Once the desired number of boosters has been selected, the user can save the picked cards in the format that MTGO understands as the user's card collection. The user can then boot MTGO and (before logging in) build a deck solely from the selected cards. When two or more people use this method of deck creation, the play experience mimics Sealed, but without the need to buy new boosters.
The app also has a few other features, such as the ability to generate MTGO wish lists for collection completion, and trade .dek lists to transfer excess cards to other accounts. Oh, and it has a MTGS to MTGO exporter too

Hello, Wagic was updated today to version 0.16. Number of supported cards seems to be a good indicator of the progress...we are now at 8150, including a good amount of cards from New Phyrexia and M12
Wagic, The Homebrew?! (WTH?!)
Purpose: Create your Decks, battle against the AI, and earn credits to get more cards. Supports more than 8150 cards as of 2011/07, also has several alternate game modes (Momir Basic, Hermit Druid,...) and allows players to create their own mods, rules, and scenarios. The main difference with other such programs is that it runs on your PSP too, so you can play on the go. It is also easy to add your own cards with a simple text editor.
OK, if I were to input a deck list, which of the above programs would be best suited to tell me what formats the deck is legal in? I am currently using MWS, and it does not cover legality for Modern, and is sketchy with legality for Standard (My standard-legal Mind Blade deck, which uses Mindshrieker and Trepanation Blade, that I KNOW is legal because it only has M12, Scars block, and Innistrad cards in it shows as not legal in any format).
