hey guys, i was thinking about forming a playgroup with whoever is interested (mostly to test out decks against each other to be on top of the new extended format). if you are, just reply to this post or send me a PM, and i'll put you on the list. i'll max out at 14-20~, i was also thinking about forming something like FNM, except the only prize would be bragging rights and/or your name on the list if my little idea ever gets it's own topic.

GENERATION 15: The first time you see this, copy it into your sig and add 1 to the generation.
Some friends and I have been using OCTGN2 to play for a while now. Every now and then I check for new sets and whatnot, and noticed that the M11 set was added but required the 1.0 game definition.
Before looking at what sets were actually supported, I used the 1.0 patch. Since my friends and I play with restrictions only on some cards and not actual sets, I had to go back to the 0.0.2.x version for a larger pool of cards. I've managed to get most of the pre-1.0 sets except Worldwake and RoE.
The mediafire.com/sets only has the 1.0 patched versions of these, would anyone be able to upload the older versions for me? Thanks in advance.
First off, thanks for the program...it's free and it's MTG and it's better than I could do.
Trying to figure out which version to use is a little confusing...a READ ME FIRST at the root of the download site would go a long way to alleviate that...explain things like O1 and O2 and what V1.0 and the other V0.0.2.X means...
Dissension V1 will not download for me off MediaFire...the only file I have problems with, I was able to successfully convert it.
Urza's Saga will not convert from .0.0.2.x to V1.0, everything else I couldn't download I successfully converted.
Apprentice converter is very finicky about spaces...it looks like whoever wrote it only tested on the included Extended decks with the Apprentice download, which appear to have been hand jammed since Apprentice actually doesn't save the files that way. To verify, just check some of the other deck formats, you'll see the spacing is not standardized.
On top of that, those decks aren't actually in Apprentice .DEC format, they are the text file version of .DEC (which Apprentice reads like .DEC, but it's not the same, try saving a file in Apprentice .DEC format, not text export, and open in Notepad...you'll get garbage.). The converter only reads the text .DEC version (and not even the text file version which would be nicer, as you wouldn't have to convert and rename).
In the current format the converter is expecting:
//Name: Deck Name Here
-----# Card Name here (there must be exactly 5 leading spaces, my "-")
-----# Card Name 2
--SB:-# Card Name Sideboard
If the leading spaces in front of each card are not exact, it errors out. I've got several hundred decks to convert so this is a pain.
In a perfect world, the converter would read .DEC format and I could just convert away...but just fixing the spacing problem would save me many hours of work.

Unless you use promo cards or un-sets or cards from other sets than blocks, I would suggest you and your friends to switch to 1.0 game definition, since it adds new properties to cards and makes new filters in editor and in sealed card selection window work (color, cmc, power, toughness, etc.).
Right now mediafire has sets already updated to 1.0 starting from mirrodin, and there is a patch that make the remaining ones (excluded non-block sets like un-sets or promo sets) compatible with game definition 1.0, though they don't have yet new properties.
Speaking about the development, things have slowed down a bit (you know, summer brings holidays... ) and there are not many updates like a month ago, but with a little of patience everything will be fixed soon.
You can find T1/Legacy only sets (pre-mirrodin and not patched) in 0.0.2.6 folder. Other sets are not available anymore with that version, at least on mediafire.

I know, and I will write as soon as possible new documentation trying to be as much clearer as I can.
Urza's saga has been excluded by mistake from last patch but will be included in the next one, sorry about that.
The problem with Dissension is related to mediafire, sometimes it ☺☺☺☺s up links but in a day or two it also fixes those problems...
Don't evade the censor.
EDIT: added a readme to the root of the site with the structure of the folders. I hope it makes browsing the site a little more clear now.
Hey guys, I read about a lot of deckideas and decklists here and on this forum they have a nifty feature when someone posts a decklist. You can click on the button to save the deck to a file. The only problem is, it uses the old octgn1 .xml files instead of the newer .o8d extension.
I was wondering, who could be asked to change it? Because almost no one actually uses o1 anymore and the new o8d doesn't change soon I think.

The knights see a mighty quarry. The dragon sees breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
I think I found a very easy temporary fix to make sets compatible with 1.0...I was looking through all the files and just made some slight changes that took 1-2 minutes for each set. Not sure if there are any issues, but so far my friends and I have not run into any problems. The new search parameters aren't done, that would take a really, really long time But for us, just having the cards available is all we need.
Here's Urza's Saga if anyone is interested. I'd keep your current set file as a back up just in case though. Good luck and have fun.
There is a new patch which adds new properties to missing sets. Now all sets are updated. You can find the patch at mediafire site
I tried using this patch but OCTGN crashes immediately when I do.
Edit: Nevermind, it crashed because I didn't have the game installed. However, I did get 2 errors during the patch.
Error while patching: C:\OCTGN\Sets\v0.0.2.6\Urza's_Destiny.v0.0.2.6.[GO].o8s
Details: Specified part does not exist in the package.
Error while patching: C:\OCTGN\Sets\v0.0.2.6\Urza's_Legacy.v0.0.2.6.[GO].o8s
Details: Specified part does not exist in the package.
Then I got 1 error during the install of the patched sets (I didn't install the 2 sets that had the errors above):
'Coldsnap.v0.0.2.6.[GO].o8s' an error occured during installation:
The set 'Coldsnap' is incompatible with the installed game version.

I don't understand why this thread isn't stickied where as Apprentice and Magic Workstation are?
This program is a lot more feature packed and functional than Apprentice. And with it's most recent updates, it packs all the same features as Magic Workstation but executes them much faster while looking much nicer and more polished.
I don't understand why this thread isn't stickied where as Apprentice and Magic Workstation are?
1.) Nobody likes too much sticky.
2.) MWS has a thread because it needs one. It doesn't matter if this program is better in your mind (that's just opinion, by the way). MWS has a higher use, and needs a sticky.
3.) Apprentice gets one because of it's simplicity. It is the classic alternative to MWS. OCTGN, LackeyCCG, all these other tabletop programs are all second thoughts compared to Apprentice and MWS.
You say this is more "feature packed" then Apprentice, but I say Apprentice is more user friendly.
4.) The smallest reason is that you're not "official" in anyway. You made this thread, but who are you? I created the MWS thread because it needed one, and Seneschul has taken over patching Apprentice. But what is your relationship with OCTGN? "Zealot" is not a valid position with the program, by the way. The real people involved with OCTGN are apparently not interested in creating a thread for their software.
In the end, OCTGN *might* get a sticky when the development team wants one and when the program earns one.
Seems like the Tempest set link from mediafire is broken, anyone else having this problem? Every other download works, but tempest refuses to download.
There is a new place a little bit more user friendly than mediafire folders, where you can find the same stuff (sets, game definitions, deck converter).
The files are the exact same files of mediafire (actually they ARE mediafire files just rearranged and with some documentation added).
I've also included my custom markers that look a lot better than brine's.
ouch ;(
Anyway, I've been looking for someone who wanted to make better markers, if you don't mind could you send me your markers file? I'm on limited bandwidth here and I can't afford digging through your megauploads to look for it. I'd love to release a new version of the markers file that includes better images. In addition, because of the way I've integrated the markers into the game definition, I'll need to make sure everything still works properly.
I guess I should introduce myself, I've been helping Gaspare with the MTG files over at the OCTGN forums. Specifically, I've been maintaining the "official" Game Definition for last 6 or so versions, including the most recent one.
Now that I've been made aware of the OCTGN community here at MTGSalvation, I'll try to check by frequently to see how things are going. Specifically, I'm always looking for ideas and suggestions to improve the game definition and other files. Also, I would like to start a new thread, this one's gotten kind of vicious at some points and I'd like to ensure that accurate and official information is available right from the start.
EDIT: I read through most of this thread, and I just wanted to make sure everyone knew this. There is a group of people who maintain the official MTG files for OCTGN. There has to be some sort of quality control with these files to ensure that everyone who plays is using the same files, and that the files function correctly. I'm asking that players do NOT modify their game and set files, and PLEASE do not distribute these modified files. As of now, the only places to get the official files are at https://sites.google.com/site/octgnsets/home, which links directly to the file hosting site at http://www.mediafire.com/sets. If there is an issue with any of the files, please report them to either me (for game definition-related errors) or Gaspare (for set-related issues) instead of attempting to fix it yourself, as we can make sure everyone gets the same file afterwards.
oh hey, no offense! lol
I just replaced the images with random ones I found. Not all of them are quite appropriate, it was just a for-fun thing. I left all the GUIDs alone.
It's strange that so many people choose to be stupid...

Morningtide is listed under mirrodin block, and the mirrodin set is nowhere to be found.
