hi I have not use my ms2 in along time but I would like to know how to export to apprentice when I try to export to apprentice it says I need a set code to export what it that and how to get one??
How do you make an ability such as amplify, with x.
e.g
Bushido X (When this blocks or becomes blocked, it gets +X/+X until end of turn.)
when I do it, X doesnt work with a number when I type a number when making a card after making the ability
One minor flaw I've noticed - On and hybrid cards the collector numbers tend to show up in black, so they become illegible. Also, on colorless flip frames, the numbers are white when they're supposed to be black. [EDIT: never mind about that last one, I was making flip lands, but that frame doesn't exist (yet?)]
Apart from that, great program!
Thou shalt not have others of the same Legendary before me Thou shalt not frame images with the modern card face Thou shalt not change rules in vain Remember the Reserved List to keep it holy Honor thy Slivers and the symmetry of their abilities Thou shalt not kill mana burn Thou shalt not sacrifice depth for accessibility Thou shalt not steal combat damage from the stack Thou shalt tell a story through thy cards All must be one
Nice Princess Ruto, Spiral.Does anyone know how to restore Magic Set Editor 2 and what is causing the issue, because MSE 2 for me has messed up. All the data is "lost", that is it won't show on the card picture, but it will still show up on the HTML exported file. Also, why are the pictures so terribly pixelated when you change the card size to 66 - 70%, which is the size of a real Magic the Gathering card?(This function is in "Preferences".)
In addition to the italics question from above, here's a quirky little issue:
I have a set of 65 Un-type cards that I periodically add to. It was built in MSE 1 (latest save was in 1.3.5), and I imported it into MSE 2 last night. Everything seemed to come over well (I reviewed each card to see that the text was there, the symbols were correct, etc.). I saved it as a new file in the MSE 2 directory. This morning, when I went in to look at a card again, the rules text is missing on several of the cards. Everything else seems to be intact (and I still have the old file, so I can ref it and copy the info), but I didn't know if it was something in my process that caused this, or if it was a bug that needed to be reported. A similar thing occurred with my main file, but I figured that was just because I tried to import a file with 1400+ cards in it.

Just FYI, I suppose.
That happens to me each time I import an MSE1 file over, too. But it's only an issue the first time I reopen the new MSE2 file. Usually it's either cards with a lot of flavor text or no flavor text, but otherwise it's totally random.

I've also noticed that it seems random. Sometimes it's cards with no flavor text, sometimes cards with lots or little flavor text (the flavor text never disappears as far as I can tell). Sometimes it happens with rules text that is realllllllly long, other times it happens with cards with one line.
When you say "it's only an issue the first time I reopen the new file...", do you mean that if you close it and reopen it again, it fixes itself? Or do you have to fix the blank cards?

No, it doesn't fix itself. It just doesn't happen again after the first close and reopen. I tried leaving the cards blank then closed and reopened. No cards were fixed, but no new cards had it happen to them, either. And it only happens that first reopen.
Although, on the brightside, it's really easy to fix the cards. Copy the missing text from the original MSE1 file and paste them into the blank cards in MSE2. It's just a small chore.
...in a 1400+ card file. For that file, it seems to be about 40-45% of the cards that are missing text. I'm through the "I's" so far. Not terrible, though, as you said, and it's giving me a good refresher on my cards. (Quite a few have been made by Wizards since the time I created them; quite a few have been deleted by me after being reread...silly cards, really. :))
I've run into a huge problem. I've been working on a fairly big set with lots of images. MSE takes its time opening the images sometimes, and occasionally it misses some images altogether (it's done this twice, with no rhyme or reason that I can detect). I just replaced the images from their original sources, but the last time I did that something went wrong. Worried that it was going to crash because it was going so slowly, I saved my file before replacing the picture. My fears, it turned out, were well founded as it did crash, but when I tried to reload the saved file I found that the majority of cards with pictures were without not only pictures but text as well, produced errors when clicked on (complaining of the absense of the picture from the file) and were uneditable (the dotted lines for the different fields also didn't show up). Interestingly enough, though, the cards without images were left untouched. Also I noticed that there is no backup for my file but that there is for all the other files I have created.
Fairly easy question: How do I get the split card/flip card/token format? I can only make pre-and post-8th edition frames.
EDIT: ah, nevermind. I just downloaded the newest version.
Bogardan Mage:
That sounds bad. The way MSE saves sets is:
- save set as "setname.mse-set.tmp"
- rename "setname.mse-set" to "setname.mse-set.bak"
- rename "setname.mse-set.tmp" to "setname.mse-set"
So if anything goes wrong while saving the set file should be unchanged. If the saving went ok, then the old version should still exist as .bak file. Could you sent me the set (or what's left of it) so I can analyze the problem? (twanvl@users.sourceforge.net)
Certainly. Also perhaps of relevance, I ran a recovery program hoping to find the missing bak file. It found two tmp files. One didn't work (something about the "set" being undefined or something) and the other was identical to the corrupted file. Not sure if this helps.

Thanks twanvl for confirming.
Is there anyway to dim the mana symbols (or create lighter ones) and darken the guild symbols?
The mana symbols are great for lands without text, but look terrible on lands with text on them.
I'm a fairly new user, and I'm only now becoming more familiar with the program as I toy with it endlessly each night. I'm still adjusting to the changes in the format, and overall I'm very pleased with what you've done. The work is tremendous and you should be widely thanked for introducing this wonderful piece of software.
That said, I'm wondering what your plans are on two fronts:
Fonts (sizes and types - I'm struggling with names that fit fine in version 1 and no longer fit on cards in MSE2)
and
Set Symbol Creation.
I like that the current tool for set symbol creation allows pretty much any shape configuration, but it doesn't appear to allow me to dictate which colors are applied to which parts of my shape as the old one did. On another note, would it be possible to use something similar to the picture importing device that you have for the card's graphics for the set symbol? That would allow me terrific range of creativity in another medium, to be imported for use in the set?
I'm certain I'll have more questions as I go, but thanks again. Its helping me tremendously, and the print quality has improved significantly! Which was the determining factor in using the new program! Above everything else, the clarity I can now achieve on my printer is SUPERB!
This certainly doesn't need to receive any kind of priority, but if you're looking for suggestions: It'd be nice to have a "Notes" section for each card. There are lots of times when I use someone else's keyword, or I see a specific wording issue with one of my cards that needs fixing but I don't know how to fix it, or I want to remember a particular combination or something, and I usually end up putting my notes in the flavor text area...the artist credit area...the type line after "Instant" or "Sorcery", etc. It'd be nice to have a "Sticky Note" link for each card.
Granted, I have no idea how much work that is, and it's certainly not an integral upgrade, but if you're bored and looking for a project...
I absolutely love this program! It's an excellent improvement over the original, which was already very good.
I'm wondering if anyone has found a readily-avilable card stock that works well for printing custom cards. I'm sure the easiest method for playing with them would be to print them out normally, stick 'em on lands, and play with everything in sleeves, but it would be quite sharp to create reasonably realistic cards.

I love this program, but there are a few problems with it:
When I make a Hybrid card that has black for the left side, the Artist name and such are also black, so I can't see them. Same happens for when I use the 3-color hybrid template.
Also, I cannot make cards that require paying life, like "Whenever blah does such and such, you may pay 2 life"because the "pay 2 life" becomes "pay life". I'd rather have to go "pay [2]" than not be able to pay life.
Keep up the good work on this incredible service!

Is it possible to get the "guild sigils" in split cards?
Another question from me: How do you italicize words? I've read the help index, but I'm still confused, because it apparently doesn't help.
Thanks in anticipation.
