For ****s sake I want to try out a new deck and NO JOKE - 6 mono red opponents in a row. Are they all retarded? Why play it in Free Play? Goddamn ******* handicapped morons.
I don't know how else to tell you this, but there is an inherent competitiveness in a competitive game. And as the other poster pointed out, Mono-red is one of the easiest decks to build for a new account, requiring very minimal wildcard investment and grinding for a deck that can just climb the ladder for you. The hard truth is the deck represents a floor on the format, that anything that you hope to make work has to at least be able to match up decently against.
And that's not even getting into how you would try to implement it. What code is supposed to filter out mono-red decks and only mono-red decks automatically?

I like the idea, but this system needs to be fixed first to have real randomness with decks and match-ups. I start the day, hoping to play some of my non-mono-Red decks. Of course, as I am not like apparently all my opponents who have every card imaginable and have found the way to appease the Arena gods so THEY get perfect cards in their hands along with perfect distribution of lands. I, on the other hand, constantly get savaged. one way or the other - No lands, too many lands, wrong lands in dual color deck, or just my opponent has just the optimal match-up to tear apart anything I have. And when I say constantly, I mean CON-STANT-LY.
For example, this morning, wanted to test out a Boros deck. 3 TIMES IN A ROW, ran into a Gruul deck, with perfect land distribution, multiple spellbreakers AND multiple Nissas (Id kill one and the second Nissa popped out next turn. All very early in the game.
In the end, I get forced to go back to playing Mono Red just to have a chance at winning. So, my point being, if the game didn't force me and others to continuously play Mono Red, there would be fewer Mono Red opponents.
I just auto-scoop to mono-red in free play mode. Don't get me wrong, I ladder with mono-red, but that's the place for it. There should be a place for off-meta decks and brews. There's basically no downside to quickly scooping in free play, so as soon as I see a turn one Firebrand or Lavarunner it's head explosion for me. You get a mark in your W column, champ, but no play experience and very little quest progression. You want to play a big boy deck, take it to the big boy pool.

I 100% agree with Sardo. The problem is not mono red in and of itself, the problem is the forced match making you get with other decks. I am SICK of playing mono red; believe me. I start every day playing something else, but after playing ridiculous match ups for an hour or so and only grinding out one or two wins, its back to red because I cant play the game all damn day to try and get some of my daily rewards.
Seriously, my lifetime win percentage is in the mid 60% range....my win percentage with anything but red is like MAYBE 30%...with red probably about 70-75%. This is the problem....
And I'm not even playing janky decks...just that I get completely un-winnnable match making almost every time. Heck I just built an Izzet Drakes deck using a top tier list and I am like 5-22 with that deck.
There are too many "face holes" on Arena now (we used to call them "Timmy's"). Faceholes mostly play mono red. I choose to never play these people when playing turn one, either start or on the draw; such a complete time-waster and not fun. I have 60-some decks and NONE of them are mono red because I know these decks irritate other players and are NOT in the spirit of the game.
Background: I started playing MTG in 1995. Love it, have taught countless friends and family members how to play. Arena is a good attempt at an online version which is failing now, unfortunately, due to mainly technical issues (mostly server deficiencies and bloatware "upgrades").
"Faceholes" are irritating but it will be janky servers will kill Arena. I don't understand why Mark Rosewater and the Hasbro suits don't get this?

There is so much wrong here starting from calling monored not in the spirit of the game and ending with blaming Maro, a card designer, for software problems.
Monored is not a time-waster, it is literally the antithesis of a time-waster. Its entire point is to not waste time and finish games fast. While true time-wasters have players running their clocks down to near 0 before the game ends and the only decks that regularly do this that I've seen are three colors with two of them being blue and white.
Players stalling are a much worse problem than players playing monored. Some people are unhappy when they lose to a monored player. Everyone is unhappy when a staller takes an extra 10 minutes to lose because they feel they are entitled to waste your time if you're beating them.
Janky servers are a major problem. You know who has no power over fixing them? Mark Rosewater. Its a nice save that you threw in Hasbro suits because at least one person(suit) in Hasbro has enough say in how Wizards operates that they could shift the proper funds and personnel to deal with these issues. However, by bashing Maro all you do to your argument is watering it down with random hate that is misplaced so people read this is whining rather than acknowledging an actual problem.
