I was looking for a good mobile CCG to play and well I was getting bored of how simplistic (or completely dead) all the available options were and I wanted something more complex. So I decided to go ahead and shell out $15 for the magic 2015 app. After all magic is complex and there is no chance magic's official mobile game could be dead... Unless I'm doing something wrong with app I'm pretty sure its pretty much completely empty and dead. Spent three hours to get every card in the campaign. Went online and hit the quick game button. Nothing went manual and clicked auto complete, and hours passed and nothing. Sire it was at like midnight eastern time but still, nothing. But before I call that $15 a total loss I decided to come onto google's first result when I searched for magic the gathering forum and confirm. Is the mobile magic the gathering app dead? And if so is there some alternative for android? Any non-android format is useless to me.
Yeah MTG 2015 is pretty much dead. The main thing people disliked about the app is that it doesn't give you access to all cards in sets, They only give you a certain set of cards.
Alternatives?
Hearthstone.
I have invested 0$ - yes, 0 dollars - into the game and having so much fun with it. I love doing arena runs when I have a few spare hours, and most of your MTG skills should transfer over - Just learn a substitute a few words: ETB becomes Battlecry, LTB/WTCD becomes Deathrattle, and the game is MUCH more random* than MTG, which I think that makes it even more fun! NTM: Tavern Brawls; Random gamemodes that change every week:
Last week was Top 3: Choose 3 cards, and your deck will consist of 10 -yes, 10- copies of that card. This week is Randomonium: Random Decks, each turn the mana costs are randomized, literally insanely random. And the game is always buzzing, most times the longest you would wait for a game is a minute, and the game is colorful and vibrant!
And the game is based in WoW, never played it, never really want to, and its not needed;
Do I need to mention card backs? Every month you get a card back if you hit Rank 20 in either Standard (last 2 years of cards) or Wild (all cards ever made), and usually you get a pack/dust/gold with it. And if you play games like Heroes of the Storm, or Overwatch and you use your Battle.net account for all 3 (and WoW also), you get a card back for HoTS and one for Overwatch, both themed for the games. Deckbuilding is super simple, because you can only use 2 cards in a deck (1 legend per deck) and as soon as you get the card, you can use it for all decks!
Try it, you won't regret it.
Edit: forgot to mention about Classes; There is 9 classes, each with a different hero power and character.
Hero powers cost 2 to activate, and can be activated once per turn. With the expansion "The Grand Tournament", they added a legendary creature that upgrades it, and a new mechanic called Inspire, that cause creatures to do things when the hero power is activated, and many creatures add extra effects to those abilities, Such as cards like Confessor Paltress, who has an inspire ability that summons a random Legendary minion when inspire activates, Or Coldarra Drake, which allows you to activate your hero power as many times a turn as you want.
DISCLAIMER: These are NOT in order of best to worst; this is just the order I remembered them in.
Characters:
Warlock: Gul'Dan: Life Tap, Lose 2 life and draw a card. Idea of class: Victory through sacrifice.
Preist: Anduin Wrynn; Lesser Heal, Restore 2 Life. Idea of Class: Embrace the light/dark.
Warrior: Garrosh Hellscream, Magni Bronzebeard: Armour Up, Gain 2 armour. Idea of Class: NO MERCY!
Mage: Jaina Proudmoore, Medivh, Khadgar: Fireblast, Deal 1 Damage. Idea of class: Win through spells.
Rouge: Valeera Sangiunar: Dagger Mastery, Equip a 1/2 weapon. Idea of class: Win through removal/combo
Paladin: Uther Lightbringer, Lady Liadrin: Reinforce, Summon a 1/1 Silver Hand Recruit. Idea of Class: Win through attrition/swarm.
Shaman: Thrall, Morgl the Oracle: Totemic Call, Summon a random totem. Idea of class: Do damage REALLY fast at cost of mana in later turns/randomness.
Druid: Malfurion Stormrage: Shapshift, Gain 1 attack and 1 Armor this turn. Idea of class: Ramp into big things very fast, be very versitile.
Hunter: Rexxar, Alleria Windrunner: Steady Shot, Deal 2 damage to the enemy hero: Idea of class: SMorc. Hit the face as hard and as fast as you can, not caring for anything else.
Also: Each class has it's own set of card that do things relating to the class; A mage may have a fireball in the deck, but the other classes can't have a fireball in the maindeck, because it is a mage card; BEWARE THOUGH: Certain decks have way to copy cards from the opponent's deck, but those cards will go straight to the hand, for example, LITERALLY EVERY CARD FOR PREIST.
Another good thing: When your deck becomes non-existant in a game, instead of you immediantly losing the game, you just take comulative damage as you try to draw. First draw with no deck causes 1 damage to you. Next draw does 2, etc. also known as "fatigue" damage.
Also, here's some "nevers" for the game:
Never think that the person doesn't have a card, always expect the unexpected. Just because somebody used a Cabalist Tome, it doesn't mean they didn't get another 1-3 cabalist tome(s). I have gotten 3 tomes from 1, and then 4 from the 3 i got from the first. I milled 4 cards that game from those cards.
Don't ever say that somebody won't play a card: Just because a Warrior runs a Raging Worgen, it doesn't mean he is playing OTK warrior, (one turn kill) he might just run it because its a good fit.

Theres my two cents. Cheers.
I hold the job of resurrecting dead threads.
Formerly presumed dead, but also formerly presumed alive.
