Hi there, I've noticed that the quests are now mostly for matched versus battles and was wondering if this is because people aren't playing versus battles as much as solo battles, so they're trying to get people to play versus. Personally I've stopped playing versus battles due to constant disconnects and the god-awful mana distribution the game is plagued with (your either flooded or starved , there's nothing in between) so I'm now missing out on lots of coins from the daily quests, which is gonna slow me down in my card collecting. Is the mana distribution problem putting people off playing online games?
I mostly play 2 headed giant vs AI with a mate but after the last update we are having to exit the game after every match just to start a new one, its now become really buggy on the match making side. Makes you wonder if its intentional!!!!!!!!!!!!
I noticed that too, but i've been playing more Versus. Notice a lot of people concede early. But I've had a few epic matches. They really are pushing the versus. If you stick in for only a few turns they usually bug out and boo-yah an easy 30 gold
It's definitely made me play less. And when I do go for a Quest in versus matches, if things aren't going my way, I'll quit the game right away and find a new match, because I'm not interested in spending 1-2 hours trying to complete some versus Quest that would have taken me 15 minutes in Hard Mode.
There's been no official statement regarding this decision but it's safe to assume that it has to do with pushing people to play more Versus. Since I normally only have 1 Quest as active, I normally re-roll and get something that doesn't include versus.
It is off-putting for me, but I have played more versus recently so I'm managing.

Definitely a push towards versus. Not convinced it's working though. Half the time i try and find a match it times out without succeeding. When i finally do get a game my opponent often quits after a few turns (no big problem, i get the win, and can carry on working towards the quest against the AI that steps in). I wonder how many active players there are? Can't be many.
Despite the issues the software obviously has, I've been having fun with it. I don't like how the coin payout has been adjusted though. Like, the one that has you play 25 lands just gives you 60 gold? How many games would that actually take?
Regarding them pushing versus, that's totally the case. It's fine for me because I've put so much time into the game that I've got a lot of what I need card-wise. At the moment, my Bant humans decks is doing really well. I'm not sure if they have a long-term plan though, because it's got to be frustrating for new players to try and build a collection while getting slaughtered in versus all the time. I'm thinking of playing my RG werewolves deck just to even things out a bit.

The whole "pushing" Vs quests is designed for new players to spend money buying cards. Much like MMORPGS that all say "free to play" (to entice new players)- but give you better chances if you pay. Just think, when a new player starts the game, they have very little cards, and to earn coins they either have to grind against (an annoying) AI or be shoved into VS mode to fulfill quests.
Seems that with Kaladesh they have toned it down a bit.
There still are plenty of VS-only quests, but lately I'm getting a fair share of quests that do not require you to be in Vs mode.
still, enter barrier is getting higher and higher each set release.
with just the starter kit, you'll have a hard time even winning consistently against the AI.
right now, I think if you don't buy 20 or 30 boosters right away with real money, you'll take a LOOOONG time before you can actually build a collection in a decent pace.
in the other hand... people that already have every set (I had everything released before Kaladesh when it came out and 3000 spare coins do buy some Kaladesh)
in less than half Kaladesh Season, I already have the full set and probably enough time to farm coins to get the full Aether Revolt day 1.
right now, they seem to be using a business model that scares new players, as they have to pay to get started, and way too cheap for seasoned players not having to spend a penny ever again.
it's REALLY weird if you ask me.
a game like this should try the very opposite of that with it's business model...
make entry easy to always attract tons of new players, and try to make seasoned players to spend some money.
As is today, I simply have 0 reason to spend a penny because just the amount I play for fun will always be enough to have the entire new set day 1... lol.
