I hope Egyptian plane is the next one. I've been dying for that theme in MTG. I don't think making gods is necessary though. Ancient Greeks believed the Egyptian gods were their own gods in disguise. It would be neat if a planeswalker from Theros, say one of the old champions travelled to Egyptian World and started a religion there based on worship of the Theros gods that do not actually exist on Egyptian world.
Just Cause the greeks believed that doesn't mean the Egyptians do. Many people know Jesus was a jew, didn't stop the roman catholics from killing them during the Inquisition.
Also IF we do go to ancient egypt I just hope they do the mythology justice and not like Gods of Egypt. Anyone see the trailer for that train wreck? Makes the new clash of the titans look good. Seriously though, I hope Wizards actually does their research on the gods this time so we get accurate portrayal of their personalities. I am so tired of everyone thinking the God of Death is the bad guy. Seriously the god of death in Egypt is considered to be also known as the Lord of Love.
I didn't say the Egyptians or Egyptian World inhabitants had to believe that - I suggested they could be based on the same pantheon. Also, while unwise to draw parallels to modern faiths, "roman catholics" did not murder Jesus. According to the bible, the Romans technically didn't either.

Following Alexander's conquests and death, Ptolemy founded a Macedonian Greek dynasty in Egypt and replaced many priests and officials with Greeks. This was a common approach from the new Greek rulers elsewhere in Alexander's former empire as well, and one that worked quite well among polytheistic subjects (the monotheistic Jews were the primary holdouts). When the power of Rome waxed full and Octavian broke the reign of the Ptolemies and ended the Pharaohs forever, he continued the practice of synchronicity, and it would not end until Christianity replaced the Greco-Roman religion as the official state religion. Ah I see. Still, I didn't think it's a logical comparison. It wasn't a matter of hypocrisy or exclusion to believe the same intrinsic beings were worshipped by another polytheistic region. The idea was that when Zeus faced off against Typhoeus, the other gods were fearful and fled to Egypt to hide in the Nile disguised as animals and those became the basis for Egyptians portraying their gods as falcon-headed for Horus or dog-hdead for Anubis, etc. Especially since one can trace both gods back to the same object in nature - death, or the sun, the Nile/Mediterranean sea/body of water, etc. I think it would be clever, given the communication between Greece and Egypt in history, to have a Planeswalker link Theros to Egypt world, even through the gods. And an even larger flavor home run to have worshippers of the Theros gods, in one form or another, on an entirely different plane. Odds are one of the early champion was an Oldwalker after all, and it could highlight not just parallels with real history to have the planes linked in some way, but also demosntrate the influence planeswalkers can have by affecting worlds with their travels and ideas. Not to mention an opportunity to skip having to make god cards too often rather than just making cards that feature god statues, etc. for flavor reasons. Just a suggestion though. Again WOTC could always skip making new gods in Return to Theros instead, and just making cards for them like Thassa's Ire where we see the gods in action, but don't have to have all 14/15 (if RG ends up re-emerging as the god of Love) again. I don't mind either way personally - Return to Theros and Egypt world BOTH having gods is perfectly fine with me as of all the planes, they're the ones who I'd want god cards from most. And I'd play all copies of ocean and sun deities from both planes in my deck.
It didn't even end there. Mesopotamian deities were also believed to be the Greco-Roman gods. Ishtar from the Epic of Gilgamesh was believed to be Aphrodite, as was Isis in Egypt.

You are both correct and incorrect. Interpretatio graeca or viewing the different deities through the lens of the greek Myths was rather common. In fact the names of the Egyptian deities are far better known through their greek names then there egyptian names. As an example, the goddess Aset, or as we know her Isis. The cult of serapis is a good example of this syncrenization.
However, it is a mistake to say that the syncrenstic religion that the Greeks and later the Romans practiced in Egypt didn't include any of the Egyptian gods and goddesses is just wrong as well. Isis again was highly popular. In a polytheistic religion one can worship many gods, including deities from outside your pantheon; it also helps that the Greeks had no standard mythology what so ever.
Still as Per magic, i would like to see the Gods, but I also want a focus on the mortal world. I am curious would the egyptian domain have one massive empire with a pharaoh or multiple ones to repersent different periods?
Whats actually been said is that the vanilla theme doesn't have much design space, not the dinosaur theme or the world of Muraganda.
Sure, but Muraganda would need to use that vanilla theme (because that's what players expect), so it's going to be flawed in that regard anyways. Of course, they can just create a regular set replacing the usual Grizzly Bear, Hill Giant, etc. with dinosaurs and call it a dinosaur world, but I don't think that's what we want.
Anyway, I remember them talking specifically about Muraganda in one of the latests Magic panels, but I don't know which one. I'd like to check the video to see exactly what they said.

Vanilla doesn't have to be a major theme, though. I think maybe 4 vanilla-matters support cards in the entire block could satiate that expectation.
Plus, there are things like tokens and face-down creatures that work fairly well with Vanilla-matters and have plenty of design space. And hey Deathmist Raptor, the best Dinosaur we have received so far ends up having a bit of synergy with Muraganda Petroglyphs!
I've been thinking about it and I feel like an Egyptian theme could easily be swung without god cards. Having ainok, viashino, leonin, and aven as races present on the plane would allow wizards to aesthetically capture the feel of many of the Egyptian gods without actually creating god cards. This is not to say that gods and religion were not an important part of ancient Egyptian culture, because they were,I am rather saying that Wizards could create an interesting plane that is based off of, and feels, Egyptian while leaving out things that might make the plane seem overly similar to Theros. I do feel an Egypt plane would be a good place to brink back the curse subtype of enchantments though.

I think that simply having gods that work differently would be enough to separate the Egyptian plane from Theros. It is not like if the Lorwyn/Shadowmoor Avatars or the major Kamigawa Kami had the God Creature Type, then Lorwyn/Shadowmoor or Kamigawa would feel anything more like Theros.
For starters, what most would associate with an Egypt plane would probably be Graveyard mechanics, not Enchantments. And assuming the Egypt plane comes right after Innistrad, then Graveyard mechanics would be pushed for the sake of synergy as well.
In Egyptian mythology, there was a time where Ra lived among humans and ruled directly. This is different from Theros where every Polis had a human leader and the gods lived in Nyx doing their own thing.
Then, in Theros, gods relied largely on Devotion to gain their power. In the Egyptian plane, gods could be more like embodiment of the "natural order", and there could be a concept like "Maat", where humans need to abide to certain laws in order to gain their favor.

No, not really. Much like all the clans of Tarkir had their own mechanic, the "vanilla matters" theme could belong to one group of Muragandans.
Remember, the Mimeoplasm is also a Muragandi creature.
There's any number of ways to do a Muraganda set while remaining faithful to what they have already. Or they can ignore Muraganda and create a new dinosaur world, which is Creative's modus operandi.
I'm betting on Dinosaur World, probably Muraganda, but possibly a new creation (like Theros replacing Arkhos or Tarkir replacing Monseng [sp?]). People have been talking about doing "Dinosaur World" for a very long time, and Maro fields questions about it (like, "Should Dinosaur be its own creature type, or should we stick with Lizard Beast?") all the time.
Note that on that poll of the most-requested new worlds, "Dinosaur" was number 5, "Muraganda" was number 7, and "Prehistoric" was number 12. I haven't seen the raw numbers, but if we assume that a visit to Muraganda would be a Lost World-style romp through prehistoric tropes and we can mostly combine those votes, I bet it's actually number 1.
As far as needing a major "vanilla matters" theme, I hardly think that's the case. Only long-time, heavily invested players even know about Muraganda Petroglyphs, and only some (I suspect small) subset of them have an expectation of a major vanilla-matters theme that will never happen. If you've seen the responses when Maro has asked what people would expect from Muraganda, the response is overwhelmingly about dinosaurs/prehistoric world tropes. And people who respond to Maro's questions on tumblr are, on average, vastly more invested than Magic's average customer.
---
Egyptian or Norse mythology world are also decent guesses. We did just do Pantheon of Squabbling Gods World, though the audience might be willing to accept a downplaying of the gods in those worlds in favor of other thematic elements.
Am I the only one on this forum who would love to see shandalar?
Also, I think that they should do another Time Spiral-esque set with awesome timey-wimey stuff.
For starters, what most would associate with an Egypt plane would probably be Graveyard mechanics, not Enchantments. And assuming the Egypt plane comes right after Innistrad, then Graveyard mechanics would be pushed for the sake of synergy as well.

WotC said that one of the biggest failures of Alara block was creating an oversaturation of multicolor, which was caused due to being set right after Shadowmoor. Problem is, Shadowmoor wasn't even a multicolor block, it was just perceived as such due to having so much hybrid cards. And that was multicolor of all things, one of the most beloved themes in Magic. No way in hell WotC is doing an Egyptian themed block with Graveyard themes right after Innistrad.
Egyptian themes are also strongly associated with balance, order, unwritten laws and curses, all of which are flavorfully tied to Enchantments. I wouldn't say it's such a strong theme as in Theros, but I'd be surprised if this wasn't a theme as well. What I do agree, however, is that it would be super cool if they dropped Devotion for a more thematic concept for the Egyptian Gods. Then again, Devotion was pretty popular, so I'm not so confident about it.
I wonder if WOTC would go down the road of an Egyptian themed set without first figuring out how well Theros did. Remember how Kamigawa did not go over well partially because of people not being familiar with the mythology that was being drawn on. Greek mythology should be more approachable to a primarily western audience, but it still wasn't clear it would be a slam dunk. I think WOTC wouldn't feel comfortable with another top-down mythology set until AFTER they saw how Theros did. So it's not until early/mid-2014 that they'd feel like putting an Egyptian world on the list could work. Since they start on the exploratory phase about three years ahead, I think this means a 2017 set is the earliest we'd see an Egyptian top-down. More likely Ham & Eggs and the later blocks. Less likely Lock & Stock or Barrel & Laughs.
I think either a dinosaur world, a waterworld, or an underground world are likely for the new plane of Lock & Stock.

A world full of sky-pirates piloting airships and plundering floating islands and the hapless people of the ground below for ancient treasures has been my number one want for a long time. But recently, I've really been jiving with a dino-world. I think it could be done exquisitely with a plane of sapient civilizations who each utilize a different group of dinosaurs, going a little something like: (W/U) pterosaurs, (U/B) plesiosaurs or prehistoric crocs, (B/R) theropods (T-Rex and raptors), (R/G) ceratopsids and (G/W) sauropods (brachiosaurus/long necks). Imagine a lumbering gargantuan of a long-neck with an entire busling, yet primitive city on it's back, wanding through the thick jungles as two elven hunters sprint for dear life away from the hulking carnivores they accidentally ran into while in the distance, a formation of humans on the backs of plane-sized pterodactyls scour the ground below from miles above the ground, ready to dive from their mounts at any sign of trouble on the earth.
I'd buy that set so hard.

I like Egypt, but I'd bet much more heavily on Norse. I've heard more people asking for this over the years (indeed, it's probably been second only to Greek Magic in my experience), and also:
* We know an upcoming set will have Dwarves in it. That's something Magic has mostly avoided (fan favorite goblins being the iconic "small red creatures"), but would be unavoidable for a Norse-world (although, I do think they work better in White than Red).
* Valla and Kaldheim (from Planchase) and the unnamed world with snow, magical metal, and creepy berserkers (from Agents of Artifice) seem to show that this is something Wizards has thought about a lot in recent years.
* The next set after the Shadows over Innistrad Block will mark the set which would have been in early design when Theros' success affirmed Wizards' confidence in top-down designs, so it's a good time to expect another top-down.
* I would expect a Norse block to focus on equipment, which hasn't had much love in a few years. Yes, a minor one, I know.
I will, however, admit that this is largely wishful thinking - the only thing I want more than nordic Magic is more Kaladesh.
I know some people have been speculating on seeing a Norse world soon. While I agree it is probably part of the current seven year plan, especially with two worlds a year, I don't think we'll see it for a fair number of years. My reasoning is that SOI has a good chance of being angel heavy, given the promo art for SOI. Not nearly to the degree that dragons were present in DTK, but still making up a larger than usual proportion of white cards, and possibly bleeding over some into another color.
Norse world has a good chance of having a heavy saturation of angels in at least white, possibly bleeding over as well into blue. This is because of the strong parallels between MTG angels and Valkyries. So another heavy angel set in at least white won't be for some time to come.
A sphinx-walker is long overdue.

Egyptian or Norse mythology world are also decent guesses. We did just do Pantheon of Squabbling Gods World, though the audience might be willing to accept a downplaying of the gods in those worlds in favor of other thematic elements.
Also, I think that they should do another Time Spiral-esque set with awesome timey-wimey stuff.
Arjun is a Hindu name and figure from Hindu mythology. I believe he is most likely from Kaladesh.
I think either a dinosaur world, a waterworld, or an underground world are likely for the new plane of Lock & Stock.

Personally I hope it's underground world. I wants full-art Underground-themed basic lands!!
Unfort. we won't see full-arts for a while after this.
The Vorthos community will await the consequences of the Eldrazi Titans' deaths/sealing. We will keep the watch.

I would be down for any of these but if we get an underwater plane I will lose my socks with happiness.

I'd buy that set so hard.

It would be SO good, wouldn't it?

Norse world has a good chance of having a heavy saturation of angels in at least white, possibly bleeding over as well into blue. This is because of the strong parallels between MTG angels and Valkyries. So another heavy angel set in at least white won't be for some time to come.
Ad so is a spider themed one as well, so join the club
