So I was recently going through my bookshelf and found a book from 1996 called "Single Card Strategies for Magic: The Gathering". The books main intent is obviously unimportant for this forum; however, after each card presented in the book there is a snippet of a story happening on the world of Torwynn. (There's even a map of it, a feature sorely lacking for the more recent planes.) Has anyone else ever heard of this place before? Or was it just made for that book and doesn't really exist?
P.S. Normally, I wouldn't be asking this, as the book wasn't written by people who where working at Wizards (as far as I know), but there is a little blurb made by Richard Garfield at the beginning of the book that mentions the stories.
I am not familiar with the book (so I rushed to Amazon), but my reaction would be that the stories are not, nor have ever been, canon.
Regardless, and to answer your question straightforwardly, no, I have not heard of Torwynn, and it does not appear in any other source.
That does not mean I am not interested, though!
I expected as much. Just wanted to make sure that we weren't missing out on a potential setting or something. (Kinda disappointing though. This would be one of our few chances for more Dwarves!)
Is it possible that WoTC knew about this plane? It can't possibly be a coincidence that Torwynn and Lorwyn are two letters off, one of which is just cutting a letter that appears twice at the end of a word.

Many years late, but here it is from the horses mouth, as I was the author of Single Card Strategies.
I don't know if WotC ever considered it official, but Torwynn was designed originally as the plane on which my story blurbs on Usenet were set in the official Deckmaster forums. This then expanded to my regular, official column in the Duelist, which then turned into the book which was reviewed and edited by Beth Moursund (who was an employee of WotC at the time as a Netrep). I can't recall how many columns I wrote for the Duelist, there were several, and they did take place in Torwynn, so whether one wants to consider that official or fanfic is up them, but that's the summary of its origins.
Hey! We just did an episode of our podcast The Vorthos Cast on obscure planes like Torwynn. As the lore consultant for WotC... I'm still leaning toward it's only semi-official, (and it's super unlikely to ever be used because of Lorwyn), but it's cool to hear from you!
