I wanted to take a minute to talk about the upcoming EoE story and set expectations—first, it is fully within Magic canon, but it is also /relatively disconnected/ from the ongoing storyline you know if you’ve been following the web fiction. We wanted to give this setting room to stand on its own
That means, if you’ve ever been curious about magic fiction but didn’t know where to start, great news! There’s nothing whatsoever you need to catch up on going into this!
We’ll be back to our regularly scheduled programming for Lorwyn, a plane deeply rooted in Magic’s history. But I’m very, VERY excited to introduce you guys to Magic’s take on science-fantasy
is it relatively disconnected in a similar way as WOE and BLB were as the first sets of their 4-set arc, with a pretty self contained story and some links to past/future characters and plots? like BLB is almost entirely self contained if you cut out Ral's opening prologue
Answer:
The EOE story will be the most stand-alone main story we've done since my tenure as story lead (Zendikar rising). Like I said, it's canonical, and there are certain revelations in the lore and story that will have big implications for everything else, but it focuses almost entirely on new characters, in a new setting
so the easy to say is its a canon story but pretty much the entire main story of EoE is a "side story" and also means Lorwyn is when we go back to the main story so pretty much its 2026 is when we see what happened after tarkir dragonstorm. to note this is one reason bloomburrow did so well
Jay Annelli is the former mod who is now the "lore master" (aka a consultant on Magic's lore and canon) for Wizards and Roy Graham is the person your quoting and is the current story lead replacing Jenna Helland when she left in 2021.
I'm a tad disappointed, I do like Magic connecting storylines, but as this is a big change from Magic's status quo I can see why they wanted more time to focus on the "plane" more. That said with the "certain revelations" I will wait and see how that goes, there is certainly ways for us to be shown info that will matter later that is not very important to the main story of EoE.

The way I see it they did this because they didn't know how well a sci-fi set would be received so they're keeping their cards open to later pretend EoE never existed.

thanks for clarification
It may be a disappointment but also means they don't have to make cards around the “metronome” story, so could be easier to do characters and other things so they can ensure the set could be more successful, off the main lore for the set I mean I’m know people might be hoping for “Fblthp, lost in space” (whatever name)
This could be another point for the potential eldrazi in “the edge” theory as well
since There’s pretty much no main story in Edge of eternities
