"You can tell how dumb someone is by how they use Mary Sue"
But man, seeing the HEAVY ravages already done with KALDHEIM (KOMA and TOSKI got turned?! OOP... ) and KAMIGAWA? My goodness... if they are really ending the New Phyrexians in MOM my curiosity has been pumped more on wanting to see how this will end.
Boseiju being destroyed was hurtful. That tree was there since before Bolas, no?
It seems like they're doing a better job at building the climax here than they did with the War of the Spark story. I hope it isn't botched like the War of the Spark and its Forsaken follow-up.
Like Mullerornis said, this one hurt, particularly with Nashi. As a parent I was able to relate to that narrative. But that stealth assassination by The Wanderer...woof.
Second, my guesses here are
that the multiverse will be connected, almost like what the Conflux did with Alara. This may render the planeswalkers less significant all around if ordinary citizens can move among planes without the need for conduits (like the Weatherlight, portals) or the spark. The Phyrexians will be defeated largely, but the planar connections will be a whole new ball game.
I want to know what this weird danger is to Phyrexia that lies under New Capenna.

I mean, I know they have limited room, so what we got here is probably already close to the best they can do. But man ... aside from what's happening to the characters, the invasion feels so "template-y."
"Here's Kamigawa being invaded by Phyrexia, let's see - buildings are crumbling, oil is everywhere, people are screaming, swords-clanging.wav ... oh, we need something recognizable, OK, Boseiju is gone I guess. Done with the setup, Tamiyo is next..."
I actually liked the ending for Tamiyo though. I hope she's not just some kind of recording, but an actual living, non-corporeal consciousness. Maybe she can't planeswalk anymore, but since she doesn't have a biological body anymore, she could technically be taken through the Blind Eternities, right? That would be a neat concept for her character going forward. (Can regular spirits/kami cross between planes, by the way? It feels like they should, but I don't think we've seen it happen)

From the legends of Kamigawa article;
He (Nashi) also finds great comfort in the stories his mother has collected around the Multiverse and would like nothing more than to see it for himself one day.
When I saw this I thought maybe Nashi would inherit Tamiyo spark or something if she died, but if the planes end up connected for non-walkers to travel I could see Nashi taking on Tamiyos role as a story mage and traveler with the saga creature of Tamiyo coming along.

I hope we'll get a vignette covering the struggles of the common folk, like how we got in Hour of Devastation. Maybe as a means of covering the lesser known planes we have no walker assigned to it, like Lorwyn and Mercadia.

Oh wow... way to weave that ending to something this hopeful. I hope if that happens (e.g. the planes being linked in the end) he indeed does do that... and also, I hope most of their remaining family survives.

So according to the first episode, Elesh Norn observed Thassa drive a Bident into one of their ships. Like Heliod, Thassa's spear must have been reformed by devotion, as I suspected. I preferred the red coral Bident Dekella to that awkward bronze spear anyhow. It's what her followers and depictions expect her to wield after all, so it was a matter of time. Will the artwork follow suit?
Love that artwork of Ephara.
Sheoldread's execution deserved a story to itself imo.
I really hope either the saga!Tamiyo is long-lasting, or gets a hero's death. Tamiyo dying as a despicable villain in front of her child while the real Tamiyo screams from within is just... too horrible. It makes me feel sick. I was really excited to see Tamiyo healing from this ordeal, but I can make do with this story-being if she doesn't just ineffectually vanish.
Please, mill me. Mill my important cards. Mill my lands. Mill it all. Because I will still deal 20 damage before you can mill 45 cards most every time.
Makes you wonder if the Eldrazi would have eliminated artificial planes like New Phrexia originally, as an aspect of their function, but could not due to being trapped. Or if this invasion might inspire Emrakul to emerge, and get to work. Especially if Tamiyo's scrolls aren't a factor in telling Emrakul's story as she herself wrote it - writing and therefore condemning herself to Innistrad's moon.
With each article, it seems more and more apparent that the Wizards are basically preparing to start with a clean slate.
Destroy every single plane we knew and loved, and if not destroy, then alter them to unrecognizability (or to their needs, see below). Even the new and really cool ones, like Kaldheim.
Onwards, they can just revisit any plane they want, change it in any way they need. Any character from the past can be just written off as "killed during the invasion", any place/hallmark/monument/magical thing (Boseiju, Eldraine cauldron/mirror/henge etc.) changed.
Any planeswalker character can meet a heroic death here, just for them not being forced to think up new stories for them.
Start again with a new planehopper team (Quint on Ixalan speculation), maybe leave a couple of the current walkers as mentors (Chandra, Liliana).
Brave new world...with absolutely no need to respect anything that came before.

I believe (hope, really) that they will make it so that only planeswalkers can open omenpaths after MoM. Preserves their specialness while still allowing non-planeswalkers to reach other planes.
As for the destruction. I am still thinking a time travel solution, but I'm getting a bit worried WotC might go for the "multiverse of timelines" approach where they whatever happens at the end of MoM will not only link worlds but timelines, so Alpha timeline Jace will stay compleated (and possibly dead) but there might be Beta timeline Jace who never went to New Phyrexia. I would absolutely hate that, but given Wizard's absolute hate for anything canon and limiting, I can see them doing that.

Indeed. It also easily incorporates the BOOM comic books just as another timeline that branched further in the past. And also fits the "nothing would be the same as before" advertisement.

and ikorias story
surprise surprise...lukka is ...DEAD!!!
oh and another thing this story is practically a confession phyrexia is gonna lose after all 18 story’s all the monsters of ikoria...they actually may have gained the same immunities melira has to phyresis oil (so that right there is the biggest give away phyrexia will lose in this March of the machines story.)
Brave new world...with absolutely no need to respect anything that came before.
It makes me very sad. A lot of the planes are old enough that their characters have told their stories, but places like modern Kamigawa, Strixhaven, etc, so many characters, settings, and designs only showed up recently and is turned to ash. It's a huge waste.
And I agree with you on the intention behind all these destructions. They want to move away from perpetual characters like planeswalkers because modern writers aren't very good at adding character depth and remembering all the histories, so they let interesting characters have a chance of showing up anywhere, rather than just in the world they're in. They just have to focus on writing stories where the set takes place, THEN add any character who's useful to the plot. A very easy, convenient way to do storytelling, also very lazy.
I hate it.
As for the stories today, of course I was overjoyed to see Strixhaven and the team again, at the same time saddened by what happened to some of the characters; they were taken before their time. Dina is lovable as always, and I'm glad to see Killian has more interactions with his dad other than stereotypical "strict father" troupe. Quint's spark was expected, but it kinda took away his reason to stay on Arcavios, which broke the team dynamic I enjoy. I think Quint is gonna replace Tamiyo as the storyteller walker?
Ikoria characters are boring as usual, but at least Jirina did something interesting at the end. Lukka came and gone underutilized. What a waste.
Eh as soon as Lukka was brought up in Brothers War I saw him being a red shirt (or a copper coat) for this arc. I feel bad for him since I felt he still could have found a chance at redemption, he was villain but one i felt just made bad choices but could have still come back. But tbh I don't mind, with a lot of major character dead or compleated and so far Tamiyo and Lukka (and maybe Tibalt) might be dead so not looking good for many.
I wish we got more with Jirina, I thought she was the best character out of Ikoria. Interning to see how thing will pan out for the humans of Ikoria.
I don't think the monsters are fully immune to the oil but this how we can have the monsters/bonders fight without them being corrupted after.
Strixhaven
Sad to see the professors (minus Killians dad) compleated they where pretty cool characters with showing the different sides of the schools.
Quintorious being a planeswalker is cool I do wish they had hinted that one of the five face students had a spark since it would have been a cool mystery to think on. Glad to see more planeswalker in colors we are low in.
Interesting Will and Rowan aren't around, wonder if they went back to Eldraine.
@Tibalt
I'd really hope wotc didn't fully kill him off and he comes back for a second round, would be a shame if all we saw of him compleated was the one spell card vs him getting a full card.

Wish they would have explained why none of the professors/deans went to activate the incantation. Why send a group of students? Also where are the dragons? There can be answers to this but it would have been nice to at least provide half a sentence to it to let us know the author didn't just forget about character motivation and internal consistency.
Ikoria story was okay, but too dependent on luck. What if Vadrok had appeared before Lukka, or not in time to stop Lukka? The margin of error was very narrow and it just worked out because writer fiat. Meh. Also not a big fan of just tossing Lukka away like that.
Eh, so far it's still better than the drivel we got in ONE. Expectation management doing the bulk here, lmao.
Because Ikoria is not a functional setting. That's why worldbuilding is so important, because it can fill us in on so much through implication and context without wasting word count on explicitly stating it. But Ikoria has no worldbuilding so none of the characters make any sense. It's not a lived in world, it's a bunch of individually cool but collectively incoherent and at times even contradictory ideas.
I'd really hope wotc didn't fully kill him off and he comes back for a second round, would be a shame if all we saw of him compleated was the one spell card vs him getting a full card.
Same. At the absolute very least give us a card of compleat Tibalt, goddamnit.
Also why are the phyrexian planeswalkers falling like flies? I guess in-story you can argue that their (incompleat) souls are actively fighting and sabotaging the phyrexian plans but it makes the phyrexians look a bit silly in that aspect. Elesh would've been better off sending her elite agents to the various worlds, like she did with Atraxa and held the planeswalkers in the back as advisors and "intelligence staff" instead of wasting them at the front lines like cannon fodder.

Sometimes I find it weird what kind of stuff they're willing to handle offscreen and what not. For Tibalt, I kind of get it - he's a minor side villain and not terribly important in the grand scheme of things. But things like Nissa getting compleated offscreen, or the New Capennan angel comeback fiasco ("they started coming back, we just didn't go into it in the story ... whoops, actually they're still gone" - all despite the plane and its angels being one of the keys for defeating Phyrexia) really make me go "huh?"

I think this is another issue of (in your own words) a plane not being a functional setting, in this case New Phyrexia. The inconsistency of how the oil works comes to mind immediately. Planeswalkers get compleated in what feels like hours, and even though the Phyrexian invasion has just begun there are already compleated huge-ass serpents on Kaldheim. This gives off the impression that Phyrexia is this unbeatable, almighty force, but then the compleated walkers get killed off in a few paragraphs, and that causes some serious dissonance.
The idea of nanobot-infested, unstoppable Phyrexian oil is cool. The idea of compleated walkers is cool. The idea of seemingly unstoppable villains having a weakpoint and being defeated relatively swiftly is cool. But the way these things are connected here is just kind of wonky.
It honestly still cracks me up that they expect us to think of Ikoria as this battle-world of Gigantic Kaiju behemoths, when what we were given in-set was avegrage-sized monsters with mix-and-match creature types.
They did a better job far better job conveying scale with the Naya shard than Ikoria could ever hope for. Other than the Godzilla alt art and mutate being creative mechanically, I kinda hope Ikoria just goes the way of Mercadia.
