I don't quite get why we see such a disproportionate amount of Strixhaven students. It seems like an odd choice to throw students at the greatest conflict in MtG yet. Especially Zimone who is the youngest of them. Both in universe and out of it.
Maybe Strixhaven is going to be particularly relevant? Maybe they'll make their last stand there?
Yeah ... out of all the planes that get invaded in this set, the whimsical happy college world is one of those that doesn't really fit tone-wise. In the last set they tried to build this atmosphere of dread with powerful walkers like Nahiri getting compleated, and now Zimone's here being like "I'm going to destroy you ... with math!"
I don't really see why Strixhaven would matter, since it has basically no ties to the current plotline. Dominaria, or even planes like Kaldheim, Kamigawa or New Capenna would make more sense.
I find it insteresting that they're in mid-air in that image. Like, there's winged phyrexian angels all around them and they're what, floating? Falling?
I get the feeling they want to place importance on Strixhaven because of Kasmina. I figure she will play a bigger role going forward after the Phyrexian arc, given that she has that cabal of Planeswalkers or something that was mentioned awhile back.

one things for sure is we’re gonna see if the conspiracy theory is true if it was a 9 titans thing and being for phyrexians take down.
"She tears off pieces for each, leaving herself without—a sacrifice no one will remember in light of what's about to happen." Godamn, chill Norn chill.
I love me a full chapter of Elesh Norn, but surely Sheoldred deserved more?
Even Tsabo Tavoc had a better send-off, and with more build-up.
come half the black phyrexians co-oped in urabrask distraction for the strike team elesh likely knew about that which explains the execution
I have no problem with the fact of Sheoldred's execution itself; Norn finally did what she should have done long ago and Sheoldred completely had it coming. It's just that there was no buildup. We never saw Sheoldred participating in the rebellion, never saw her fuse with Drivnod, never saw how she was defeated or captured. For all she did to Dominaria, she absolutely deserved to die stripped, writhing, and screaming like she did - but her capture and death just came out of nowhere. For such an important character, for such an iconic Phyrexian villain, her demise needed more space, more setup.

true but there is one thing not being taking into factor
remember… the first look of March of the machines they showed all the praetors arts including sheoldred
so her art shows a swarm of phyrexian bugs also her with small bug legs also riding on Drivnod, Carnage Dominus back
so Couldn’t that potential indicate she gets repurposed/resurrect in a similar fashion to ixhel making geth into vishgraz
even If the picture is not relevant to the story another factor forgotten… there’s 6 other black phyrexians worthy of the praetor position and 3 of them are following norn Norns likely to anoint one of them the position sheoldred just lost.
I am def getting the feeling that the invisible Watchers are doing the same thing Teferi did with the Temporal Anchor: They are observing the past to look for changes they can make to stop Phyrexia. I don't know if this will lead to a full time related change to undo the invasion, especially since we don't know what part Elspeth still needs to play. Now that I think of it, this could be Elspeth watching somehow from the Blind Eternaties and she's going to be with a someone like Marvel's Watcher or Immortus outside time and space. That way she could make her choice to reenter the Multiverse at a key moment to stop the war. Should be interesting to see how this goes.
I agree, Sheoldred death was a bit undeveloped and I wish they had allowed for stories for ONE since I feel like there was a lot we didn't see (see my Nissa comment).
Well we see a good outline of Norn's plan;
-Mostly sending the planeswalker to their birth planes to invade. We know for sure Nahiri is leading the assault on Zendikar, Lukka on Ikoria and Tamiyo on Kamigawa. This seems to be her biggest reason for them as they have knowelge of the planes and are able to travel quickly without the world tree.
-Jace is off somewhere, maybe Ravnica but that might have be where Vraska is (whose not mentioned in either story). Similar to word on if Tibalt is gonna lead the assault on Innistrad.
-Ajani is off to Theros to both compleated the gods and unknown to him, also something to do with Elspeth.
-Atraxa is off to deal with New Capenna to get rid of halo and deal a moral blow to Elspeth. Interesting to see that Capenna had something special old phyrexian wanted. Likely Atraxa has some protection from halo.
-Touched on with Sheoldred, we do get confirmation that Nissa is liked into the world tree and likely her compleation lead to realm breaker connecting quicker to the multiverse. Again wish we gotten a story about this.
-The planeswalker still have a bit of selfhood shinning through, with Norns thoughts on Lukka and Ajani and Tamiyo getting lost looking at Kamigawa.
Epsiode 2 was nice, with more chapters this was a much needed bit of emotional interacting with characters. Loved the moments with Chandra and Lilinana and Chandra and Wrenn.
-Chandra and Wrenn (and seven) are off to try to find Teferi and try a second attack on Realmbreaker.
-Wrenn seemly is gonna try to unleash the wildfire she has contained and merge/speak to realmbreaker. I hope she isn't compleated similar to Lukka by this :/

yea here’s my thought on the watchers at the end of chapter 2
Now I'm curious about the higher tier planeswalkers and beings remaining that haven't been mentioned in awhile.
Will Nahiri accidentally open Zendikar back up to Eldrazi?
Ugin is presumably fully occupied in the Mediation Realm./?
Sorin and Arlinn are attempting to protect Innistrad, but we don't know what that entails. Is releasing Emrakul a potential break-glass-in-case-of-emergency?
Ob Nixilis - I fully expect him to side with the Phyrexians, unless he sees them going after Halo as a threat to his goals.
What's Garruk up to? On second thought, he would seem particulary easy to compleat.
And Tezzeret - seems like the Phyrexians will kill/compleat him if they capture him back. But will he lay low or help the good guys in some way?
It seems to be telegraphed that Teferi, Elspeth, Chandra (will Ghostfire be of use?), and the Wanderer (at least getting Teferi unstuck) will play key roles in the next resistance. Clearly Halo/Elspeth are a major threat to Elesh, and of course anything time-based can undo the Phyrexians' goals.
Melira could be of better use if she gets her powers ramped up a lot, otherwise it just seems too slow at the moment.

Will Nahiri accidentally open Zendikar back up to Eldrazi?
LOL, if this ever happens and an Eldrazi gets Phyrexianized... I might actually throw the proverbial towel on the current arc... coz LIKE WOT?!
--------------------
Other than that, I did not expect Wrenn's involvement in this. Might she actually be successful in convening with the World Tree (and might end up having a temporary host? Oooh, that would be SICK!)?
At this point, to me there's still no clear answer on how New Phyrexia would be defeated... so many factors hanging around. May it actually be a multi pronged approach after all? (e.g. Elspeth, Teferi, Wrenn + World Tree, Chandra...) My curiosity is nudging at me HARD!

So what exactly stopped Sheoldred from simply turning into a bunch of spiders like she did on Dominaria?
As for her death being too quick: I don't see it. She was never a big enough story character to "deserve" a death chapter/story all to herself. The only on-screen time she had was when she got the hell out of Dominaria once Ajani destroyed the sylex and our hearts. And then she quickly skittered off without even a word while the story continued focusing on Ajani. She's a high profile card but not character. Don't conflate the two.
Also, did anyone else notice that they showed Ephara but the text very clearly described Thassa?
Obviously Sheoldred is not dead dead since we have seen card art of her from the invasion.
Wrenn is a nice addition to this story that I did not expect. She is containing a fire that would have consumed a an entire plane - it's exactly the kind of weapon caliber needed for this conflict. They went out of their way to bring it up (with Chandra giving Wrenn lessons on how to direct it even), so it will play a big role somehow. Maybe it will burn away the oil etc. and leave a "clean shell" for Wrenn to connect with?
Also, on New Capenna angels are apparently back to being gone after coming back offscreen at the end of the New Capenna story. Whew...
You know the mystery watchers I may have struck a Eureka moment
lets go back to the “BRO” story when teferi was talking with Urza right after he activation
"They looked up toward the empyrean distance. Cracks spidered across the infinitude, silent and seeping. Against the blank unfathomable space, numberless, dark fingers began to probe. Shadows, pressing against this enclave. They were overstaying their welcome. Something was coming for them."
maybe it’s whatever these were.
and on top of that
What if These mysterious watchers is what Kasmina is gathering walkers for to fight these things
it would explain the secret cabal thing because maybe it’s so secret not even these mysterious things can't spy on kasminas guild.
The first "heroic" death of this storyline, rest in peace Tamiyo your story was one that touched so many :'(
We learn the other two of Tamiyo's stories she bound away;
-one was the story oh phyrexia which she uses to invade Kamigawa
-The last was her story, which has left a "saga creature" of her behind now she has died.
And as we saw from the first story the true selves of the walkers are really in there still, if they can be truly fixed we will have to see.
Kaldheim and Capenna are looking rough, Kaladesh was doing better but still not good, possibly Tyvar and Pia end up killed but I don't think we can call it yet.
“There are no weak Jews. I am descended from those who wrestle angels and kill giants. We were chosen by God. You were chosen by a pathetic little man who can't seem to grow a full mustache"

Man... I am gutted with how Tamiyo got F-d :gonk:... but at least it was done by Wanderer + Kyodai. And she at least now has that Saga-ish thingamajig for her family (if ever they survive this).
Tamiyo is making me hope that there are more of the compleated walkers that can sort of resist what happened to them (before possiblu succumbing)....
But man, seeing the HEAVY ravages already done with KALDHEIM (KOMA and TOSKI got turned?! OOP... ) and KAMIGAWA? My goodness... if they are really ending the New Phyrexians in MOM my curiosity has been pumped more on wanting to see how this will end.

Already?
