We are getting a sneak peak at New Capenna tomorrow figured I'd make a thread since we will likely get a rough look at the set and flavor.

So Esper is an Illuminati-style shadow cabal, Grixis is classic Mafia, Jund are the Street Gangs, and Bant are evil lawyers/bankers ... Naya is the only one that feels like it doesn't have an obvious association. Maybe I'm just missing something, or am not familiar with the tropes theyre going for.
I'm kind of surprised how effortless the Bant faction feels, although a WUG Demon is still going to feel a bit weird.
Edit: Reading Caranthirs comment and googling "Fat Cat," I think I get it now. But that's only one person, I wonder how the larger oeganization will look like.

Its the party aspects of The Roaring '20s; jazz, gin, drugs and flapper girls, (we even see a flapper on the theme booster which was what my boa as boa comment was about) all in hidden speakeasies due to prohibition.

I got the impression that the Naya faction likely owns all the bars and entertainment facilities in New Capenna. ...They then need to hire bouncers to prevent the bars from being filled with brawls 24/7. The bouncers' actions throwing violent drunkards out promptly angers the other 4 families at some point to the point that they want some Cabaretti dead (note the Cabaret in the Cabaretti's name).
Marketing messed up some with some ideas for in store events but Capenna will have a magic substance called halo that will be a stand in for drugs and alcohol. With the name also could be made from angels in some form.

Ya know what? I could totally buy that.
city of demons fueled by a substance derived from the torture of its former rulers sounds pretty wicked.
If someone like Elspeth comes along and frees the angels, the end result would also likely play right into the Apocalyptic prophecy of the brokers about New Capenna falling if the halo ever runs dry.
I wonder if Elspeth's new sword is halo powered with the bowl of something in the center.

Aaaaand new capenna is infact elsepth's home plane and the plane did a “deal with the devil” thing for the demons to shoe away the phyrexians like flys
Looks like Vivien might be heading into a trap, though interesting to see what Urabrask is up too now.

Could be a surname, could be the original founder. Demons aren't exactly unkillable in any part of Magic's fiction.
Really hoping Vivien isn't the next Compleated walker. There's a neat irony in it, but she's also reached the point where she's both too new and too old to turn in a satisfactory way, narratively. Tamiyo didn't have much of a story arc, at least, but Vivien's shown up enough that she's got one started that I don't think would be satisfactorily closed by Compleation

honestly we should be really asking why is tezzert working with Urabrask?
The same praetor who let the Mirans live on his realm
who Hates the other 4 praetors/phyrexian factions
jin gitaxias doesn't trust him and that’s who tezzeret was working with on kamigawa and now the person jin doesn't trust
and even refused to give atraxa his phyrexian color to atraxa when elesh norn asked the other to give it to her.
and tezzert mention “for freedom” for their plans
And Urabrask probably wants nothing to do with this multiverse take over
and not to mention there’s a chance tezzeret might be changing his mind on the whole thing when he saw jin gitaxias compleating tamiyo (he felt really uncomfortable)
I think Urabrask need for the halo is part of his own scheme to get his realm back and flush the other 4 factions
Tin foil hat kasmina might be working with Urabrask and he’s the cabal leader.
By the way, Maro's teasers mentioned Cephalids. So squidfolk are back on the menu, boys! Wonder how they decided to handle them visually this time. Cephalids in Otaria always looked kinda goofy. Personally I'm partial to more vicious, squid-like cephalids lurking in the depths, like the merfolk on Rath, but the "advisor" typing probably indicates the opposite.

What story arc does Vivien have? Her entire shtick when she was introduced was "Bolas destroyed my homeplane now I want revenge." and then she got to do diddly squat during War of the Spark. Honestly, her arc would have been concluded better if she died at the hands of Bolas in WotS, not because I want her dead, but her and Bolas' fate were deeply linked narratively and her killing Bolas would have been cheap. (Plus Bolas's killcount we got was hilarious.) Instead she just shuffled around uselessly and her entire arc just went up in smoke.
Then they made her into some Garruk 2.0? Her character is thoroughly confused. Nissa fills the role of "I hate civilization but I am not a villain." better and Garruk is thematically a better fit for "I want to tear down civilization" because he's more physically focused, like the Gruul. Instead Vivien summons spirit animals, which is very thematical for her fighting Bolas with what he has destroyed, but it doesn't fit thematically with tearing down civilization.
She's definitively a foil for Lukka, and I would argue also a foil for Nissa. Lukka is all about humanoid domination over beasts, and the triumph of civilization over the wilds. Nissa is more about nature remaining as is, growing and thriving despite humanoid intervention. Vivien, especially as seen through the Ikoria novel, is about bridging that gap. She definitely didn't start that way, but that's part of the arc. She's redefining herself and what she is actually living for after years of pointless revenge-seeking. She looked to her weapon, the combined efforts of her nature-loving brethren and the technologically-inclined people she once called enemies, and realized that's what she was looking for.
She's also the only person other than Lukka who's aware of whatever Planeswalker was interfering with Ikoria because she was explicitly hunting them, so, like, that storyline still needs some tying up.
Tamiyo's connection to the larger story, by this point at least, was the sealing of Emrakul, which is the (for now at least) end of that story.
I think it could be 50/50. Vivien has been give a good amount of focus and storyline and the community knows enough of her to (dis)like her but not so big enough to be full covered in plot armor.
And as seen with the part about Tamiyo and her iron locked scrolls they can work in whatever plotlines walkers have into the compleated arc. Vivien may find that Phyrexia is the perfect balance of technology and nature after being compeated. And looking at pw balance there is room for a GR walker.

Well, here it is.
Defnitely fits well with Neon Dynasty with the futiristic art deco architecture, though it's clearly more film noire.
Also dapper cat.
actually it’s very Likely we have are mugshots of the demon godfathers right here

Wizards promotes halo as being magic-enhancing, so I'm thinking anabolic steroids instead.
