I have to say, this thread is a complete ghost town now.
I'll update on the VN once I finish it.
I lost motivation with all the retcons. I was hoping to see the Sisters, Michiko and Kyodai, as Kami entities. They could have still had emperors that bond with them both, rather than leaving Michiko to be mortal. It's also sad that we never followed up with Night's Reach, and have entirely new Myojin instead. The dragons all having new names is forgivable but also unnecessary IMO. Why not reincarnate them? idk, just feels like a lot was changed that didn't need to be.
Well, it was a new Kamigawa or never a Kamigawa again. I can live with that, though I fully understand your setiment (for once).
I like how they referenced Night's Reach (and ONLY her, from all the five myojin) in a saga and in the Invoke Despair card.
If they give me a Sisters of Flesh and Spirit card in Commander or Commander Legends sometimes in the future, I'd forgive them.
As for the dragons, the gender switches get on my nerves. Kokusho and Keiga were explicitly female, whereas the other three male. Now Jugan was retconned into a female and Kokusho is retro-referred as male...

I also admired the Night's Reach and other throwback sagas. Ironically, it wasn't the cyberpunk or development in Kamigawa I found jarring, but the senseless, unnecessary retcons. Which didn't even justify anything. 1,200 years since the Kami War resolved, and the Sisters re-writing Kamigawa's magic was sufficient to usher in the development of an advanced civilization since we last visited. The changes to some core, fundamental principles of the past Kamigawa lore only detracted from expectations and compromised what was established for no benefit.
I'd like to hear Jin-Gitaxias speak in a stereotypical anime antagonist voice.
One thing that I really don't like about the manga and the trailer is how teary-eyed and/or blushy the emperor is all the time. It feels very odd after reading about her being all composed and collected in the actual story.

It does feel like the manga doesn't cover the full written story - perhaps both should be read because the manga does explain the nature of the Wanderer's spark better, IMO (i.e. it more clearly depicts that The Reality Chip stabilizes her spark (at a horrible price) and detaching it reverts her spark to its usual unstable state), but the manga also skips out on mentioning Tameshi entirely, thus providing Kaito with less initial (IMO, interesting) self-conflict about investigating Team Tezzeret when he knows that his friend Tameshi has been involved with them, and glosses over the Uprisers' attack on the imperial compound. Kaito's initial attack scene with Tamiyo is just as cringe in both the manga and the written story, IMO, though.
In short, the manga and the written story don't feel fully consistent with each other, perhaps because the manga summarizes more.
Also, it might sound like really trivial but I'm glad they added enchantment creatures. Besides ensuring Kamigawa will always be a spiritual place, they also allow for non-kami youkai like the cat and turtle. Also, what's up with the saga creatures? Are they made by the Living Historians to suffer?
"I'll give you the in-world and behind-the-scenes answers.
In world: 1,200 years ago, there was a general belief that the kappas had died. It turns out they hadn't. The same thing has happened in our world many times. All of the following creatures have been declared extinct only to later show up still alive: Arakan Forest Turtle, Chacoon Peccary, Coelcanth, Cuban Solenodon, Goblin Shark, Gracilidris, Kashmir Musk Deer, Majorcan Midwife Toad, Monito del Monte, Monoplacophoran Mollusks, Mountain Pygmy Possum, New Guinea Big-Eared Bat, Laotian Rock Rat, Naked-Backed Fruit Bats, New Guinea Singing Dog, Night Parrot, Nocturnal Gracilidris Ant, Palehouse Earthworm, Pygmy Tarsier, Stubfoot Toad, Tahake Birds, Terror Skink, and Tree Lobster."

Second trailer. Very well animated but also cringe.

Okay this is genuinely insane.
