Just might have been Ethan and Ari not thinking to match pretense and writing separately.
Welp, it really just is an oversight then, probably. Wizards doesn't seem like a company to do that kind of obscure hint-dropping, and they're never going to return to Lorwyn anyway.
Still, even just as a headcanon I like the idea of Maralen morphing back into Oona in restored Lorwyn. Ultimate power always corrupts, stuff like that. Maybe she would be able to restrain herself for a while, but over hundreds of years, it wouldn't be hard to believe that "her nature" would start to seep in slowly again. idk, I'd really like having Oona as a minor, planebound villain that still has the ability to somewhat influence multiverse events through dream magic.
Plot twist: Oona gets a planeswalker spark from [insert currently least popular planeswalker, hopefully Nissa] and leaves Lorwynn, so she becomes a major villain while Wizards collectively sigh in relief because they hate Lorwynn that much.
At this point it feels the odds of going back to Lorwyn are smaller than going back to Kamigawa, which makes me sad.
Also, I'm glad we finally got a card for Colfenor. It was always a bit odd that he never got a card in the original block. Just wish his artwork would have matched literally the only piece of artwork we had from him. Oh well.
Lorwyn is Very popular and win 2 surveys you did, where's Lorwyn on the scale?
Mark: It’s improving with time.
IIRC people didn't like the storybook/softer feel of Lorwyn and thats recently as more players are more open whimsical stuff (likely as real life got more "grim dark").

“There are no weak Jews. I am descended from those who wrestle angels and kill giants. We were chosen by God. You were chosen by a pathetic little man who can't seem to grow a full mustache"
"You can tell how dumb someone is by how they use Mary Sue"
Quote from "Ach! Hans, run!" by Will McDermot, "The Monsters of Magic" »
"Ach! Hans, run!" said Saffi Eriksdotter. "It's the lhurgoyf!"
Hans, barely six feet tall and weighing no more than eleven stones, was still too small to join the hunting parties. In two winters on guard duty, the worst danger he'd faced had been a rabid fox that had nearly nipped his leg. The rush of that evening had long ago subsided, and Hans spent most of his time dozing and dreaming of killing a real beast. Roused by Saffi's call, Hans pushed away from the post and wiped the gunk from the corners of his eyes.
The beast was already on top of Saffi, pinning his sister to the ground. Saffi squirmed under its immense weight, her arms and legs completely useless. The lhurgoyf pulled her head into its gaping maw and bit down hard through her thick neck. Blood spurted from Saffi's torso, nearly drenching the smaller guard, as the beast lifted its long neck and tipped its head back to swallow.
Hans opened his mouth to scream, but all that came out was a raspy squeak. He had to find help quickly, before the beast finished its meal. His stomach churned at the callous thought, and tears began to well up in his eyes. But fear overwhelmed sorrow when the beast pushed Saffi's bloody foot into its mouth and looked over at the young warrior. Hans wasn't sure, but he thought the lhurgoyf had grown taller. At that point, Hans found his voice and began to scream as he raced into town.
This Hans seems neither to weigh no more than eleven stones, and too young to join the hunting parties...

I mean, if Klothys can create a mana construct planeswalker on the spot because it's convenient for the story, there's no real reason for why Maralen/Oona shouldn't be able to do the same or something similar.
Is it possible for Klothys to have woven a planeswalker spark from a deseased soul into Calyx? Because yeah, I hate the precedent it sets otherwise and I try to grasp at any straws that allow the spark to continue being something near impossible to reproduce. Otherwise all bets are off.

I think it depends on how Klothys made Calyx, I've seen a few people compare her to the Ur-Dragon "giving birth" to Bolas and Ugin which makes sense as her and Kruphix are said to be the most powerful being on Theros.

My take is that either she "fated it" (as I use in my rare non-trollfic: https://archiveofourown.org/works/22214809) or Calix willed a spark into existence because Theros is a place where wishes come true.
She is literally fate/destiny. Any PW from Theros owes their spark to her deciding it is fated for them. That's just how it works on Theros. She used powers within her domain to create a being that is destined to hold a spark. Theros itself is a unique plane, and Kothys ad unique god, that simply tapped into her own abilities. I agree, she is the most powerful being on Theros alongside Kruphix. I really didn't find Calix jarring or surprising at all.
I did think that since Xenagos died in Nyx, the gods would be fighting over his residual spark, preserved in Nyx by some metaphysical force, that Klothys decided would be used for Calix to break the conflict. But that didn't end up being the case.

Yeah, don't read anything into the varying tenses here. I can barely get my tenses to agree from sentence to sentence in the same paragraph. Getting my tenses to agree with Ari's is well beyond my capabilities!

Tiro reaching for that headcanon to avoid saying that his favourite world might have issues, haha.
It would be interesting to get to know more about the technicalities and circumstances of Calyx's creation. Why is he WG when Klothys is GR, how does the spark work, etc. Unfortunately that seems like something Wizards would deliberately leave ambiguous/unanswered/unexplored even IF there was a Theros book.

Because he's basically a robot while she creates and destroys as fit.

Basically, in our version, Calix was once a devotee of Klothys (so there is a hint that his soul could have contained a dormant spark), and because he was a construct of the goddess of destiny, had a sole purpose, and Theros is a world that reacts to belief - the stronger the belief, the more likely something is to happen - the world just granted him the way of following Elspeth and continuing his existence and purpose.

Not getting Pivlic or Fonn, this makes up for it a bit.
Well, he is known for a week from the leaks, but now we can address him without spoiler tags.
He does not exactly look pudgy and bumbling, as described in the novel, though.
And NOT having the partner ability is a MAJOR flavor fail for him :))))
The rest of today was underwhelming, though. We got another Akroma version as the white mythic (instead of Daria that I hoped for). The last black uncommon partner is a random Lorwyn elf, and the UW nonpartner legend is the rabbitfolk wizard to go with Archelos.
EDIT:
Okay, the Naya rare legend is a friggin' JARED CARTHALION.
Well all legends are in just need the bios tomorrow but I do love how we got some many flavor text characters. It really flesh out how deep the lore can go and what fun designs just a few pieces of flavor text can make.

It also seems Alharu is non-binary and the first human character to go by they/them.

Aesi could still be from Kaldheim - maybe they just didn't mention it because the set isn't out yet. A mostly ocean-covered plane fits the Viking theme, and between the name in the flavor text and the pictures of the "Cosmo Serpent" miniature we have, it'd be weird if he was from another plane altogether (although I guess it's not impossible).
Imoti not being from Amonkhet was a bit of a surprise to me.
Overall, I appreciate that they do these little bios, but especially the info on new characters from unknown planes are a bit too bland and limited for my tastes. They probably do it this way to not write themselves into corners, but I still wish they'd include a few more specifics about their planes here and there.

vorinclex had his own thranes ich-tekik was one

"You can tell how dumb someone is by how they use Mary Sue"
Kangee is now officially and aven, and a member of the Northern Order on Otaria.
They also made a mistake with Ripley Vance's gender. In the flavor of Vance's Blasting Cannons, it is clearly said "her"...
